Used car prices insane. In March, we got a 2021 Ford Explorer XLT with 4WD & Sport Appearance Package for $47,950 OTD. Can’t imagine paying $35,000 + tax, etc. for a used one with 40,000 miles on it. 😳 On the flip side, they gave us $11,500 in trade in for our 2014 Honda Accord with 94,000 miles on it and turned around and sold it for I believe $17,000! Crazy!

I would recommend to not buy any newer Ford Explorer, because of its reliability and its interior space. They are not made to last. You can always look at a newer Toyota Highlander, but purchase the one with the 3.5 L V6 engine and the six-speed automatic.

That last reliable explorer was in 2010. After that the new design came in 2011 and some how (me) as a nerdy 13 year old at the time could easily tell the engines are unreliable. Who thought 4 cylinder with a turbo was a good idea????

We have this car and our third baby is on the way. We put the baby seat and my two year old's seat in the second row next to each other so my almost 4 year old could access the third row. Just wanted to put it out there that it is possible to maintain 3rd row access with 3 car seats- but it is super tight! I don't think the explorer is great for more than two car seats. It's just too cramped. Going to try to make do for a bit but once the baby has to move into a convertible car seat it definitely won't work and it'll be Expedition time! lol

I purchased a 2018 Explorer Platinum (black) a few months back and I admit, I paid more than I should have but we needed a larger vehicle right away and prices just keep going up. I paid $32k for it and it has 95k miles on it, but it is pretty cherry. There was only a little bit of scuffing on the door panels, totally expected for a 4-5 yr old vehicle. It has the dark interior with light gray leather seats and trimmed in chrome and satin aluminum (i think they called it aluminum.) We love it so far but I would have loved it more if it was 6-12" longer for a bit more 2nd and 3rd row leg room, about 5-7 gal more fuel capacity, and smaller 3rd row head rests. I don't mind if they come up farther, but with them up, they block a great deal of the rear view. The ride is ok, haven't used 4wd yet, but it has good power. It feels like the power is dialed down considerably as it goes and goes fast, but doesn't seem to sit you back in the seat with as much torque as the engine has; not even when the turbos are boosting the power. I would rather this be 4x2 vs AWD (intelli 4WD) because the fuel mileage sucks. I agree about some of the cup holders. If they aren't totally useful, why even have them.

I'm not sure if there's anything I can do to give more space back there or am I just S.O.L? lol. I also did not know the 3rd row goes the OTHER way... I'm definitely going to try that out. :) TYSM!

In my old Santa fe our pumpkin seat fit just fine, but then once our oldest was ready for a rear facing convertible seat it didn't really fit! Me at 5'7 had to scoot my driver's seat up so much and was uncomfortable driving, with my 6'1 hubby in driver's seat it just didn't work! I feel like the pumpkin seat damn near fits in any vehicle comfortably. For our next vehicle we tested the convertible rear facing in all vehicles before choosing lol.
