There is the way to drop transmission pan on these. To increase clearance you just need to raise transmission (2 nuts holding it) with the engine (2 more nuts). The clerance will allow you to do whole transmission service, change filter, etc.

The 150k miles that Ford gives borders on criminal negligence. A lot of Transit owners have reported transmission problems at 60-70k. Mostly from the AT fluid getting sticky. I had a funny problem with my transit a few years ago. Drove fine except when I took it on the freeway. Then after a little while it would throb and vibrate very loud. It was even difficult to drive over MPH it would get so bad. Took it to the dealer and a tranny shop. They both said transmission flush and rebuild and quoted thousands of dollars. On the advice of a forum member I had the dealership just do a flush and replace. Still a lot at $400. But much less than a transmission rebuild! Funny part. The MANAGER of the dealership came out to tell me it was a bad idea and would not fix anything. He even had me agree that it wasn't their fault if my transmission got worse afterwards. Well that was about 30k mostly freeway miles ago. Transmission runs smooth as butter. If your transmission is over 50k with the OEM fluid, get it changed before it gets sticky.

it's worth the 300$ at the dealer to have them flush the entire 13 qts while running/pumping new fluid in. this just gets 2 qts. i'm doing my 2022 t250 every 40k mi. 300$ a year. i'm living in mine full time and trying to go 500k mi in her.

Companies tell lies about transmission fluid changes. Like “lifetime” fluids or what you just saw, every 100,000 miles. I change my fluid every 30,000 miles no matter what.

As soon as I lift the dipstick out I got transmission fluid pouring out and I got that corner of the truck jacked up a little bit so you would think that the fluid should be a touch lower at the dipstick area. Is my transmission overfilled or something?
@dairleautoclassicrestorati68924 ай бұрын
@MindsEyeVisualGuitarMethods That's a good question. There is a mechanic friend of mines that believe in running the Engine while he is adding or checking fluid in the Transits. I feel that if you do that, fluid will pour out on the next guy. If just a little bit came out. I would not worry too much about the level.
@MikeReszke4 ай бұрын
Don’t you need engine running to circulate fluid while checking level?
@dairleautoclassicrestorati68924 ай бұрын
@MikeReszke Yes Sir! In most cases that is what you do. But I have found in this case after serving about (10 - 18) of these Transits. Checking with engine not running the fluid is right on the full mark.

What about the filter?
@dairleautoclassicrestorati6892Ай бұрын
@MrRealistic316 Good question, Ford made it so you have to go through channels to change a filter. And if you change it. You still will not be able to put no more than 3-4 quarts back. I have spoken to a good friend of mind that is a Ford Service Manager. Ford don't even change the filter. They just recycle the fluid.
@MrRealistic316Ай бұрын
@@dairleautoclassicrestorati6892 recycle the fluid? But I would assume the filter can get plugged up from material. That's why I ask about changing the filter. I worked for Benz dealer early 2000's. Trans service was fluid , trans gasket , filter and crush washer.

I looked up my my transmission it said 3.5 quarts initial fill and 13.1 quarts total fill. What does that mean? You only put 2.5 quarts?
@dairleautoclassicrestorati68928 ай бұрын
13.1 quarts is a full transmission service that is done by the Dealer or a Shop with the Transmission Service Equipment. The service that I did was mainly replacing what is in the Transmission Pan. That's why I mention you can run the Engine and repeat the procedure a few more times. It still will not be a 100%. But it is better than not serving it at all. Thanks
@hankwaddell9988 ай бұрын
@@dairleautoclassicrestorati6892 WOW! that was fast, you're the man. But doesn't it just keep mixing together, that would take a long time. Soome one told me they do it with a machine and it can blow depries out from the corners and cause more damage. OR do they pull the pan to do it? I would like to get it all new, I was wanting to use AMSOIL SIGNATURE SERIES FUEL-EFFICIENT 100% SYNTHETIC AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID. what do you recomend. I used to do this on my EVan but it has a cooler and you could disconnect that and get more out without dropping the pan.
@dairleautoclassicrestorati68928 ай бұрын
@hankwaddell998 I would recommend using the Motorcraft Transmission Fluid that it came with if you are going to do it yourself like in the video. I believe the cost is around $250-$300 at the Dealer for a FULL Fluid removal. I don't believe that they drop the pan. I could be mistaken. And they only take about 30 mins. That is one option.

I drove ford E250 - 1st a new 1970, only 3 EVans until I bought my first Transit 250 in 2015. 2015 only made it to 115K miles before it was totaled. Now I have a 2018 T250. As I said before I want to change all the fluid in the transmission. I remember doing it my E Vans they all had a transmission cooler and to replace all the fluid I would connect a clear vinyl tube to the radiator / cooler end and use a clear gallon jug with a mark at the - in T250's = 3.5 quarts. Then run the van until 3.5 quarts came out. Then fill 3.5" quarts and repeat on T250 5 times. This would pretty much replace the fluid. So you think this method would work on the T Van.
