Jesse Carmichael I totally agree, but there's an easy way to tell the difference, especially since the recent S-Class facelift: one LED strip in the headlights equals C-Class, two equals E-Class, three means S-Class. I'm still lost when it comes to recognising them from behind though...

I drive a G80 after driving an Audi A6 Bi Turbo and Range Rover. For the money the Genesis is incredible! I'll bank the 30k I saved for some gimmick features of the Benz. Power and performance are there for both. The adaptive cruise control of the G80 is amazing. Genesis is another player from Asia like Lexus and Infiniti keeping the Europeans on their games for over priced 4 cylinder turbos

Tough choice, I really like the new G80 Sport. I'm not sold on the Merc. To me it just isn't a proper E550 replacement and it sure as hell doesn't deserve to be called an AMG. If its engine wasn't put together by one person in Affalterbach then it isn't an AMG, period. And for that money, I'd go the extra mile and get the E63 which is a different ball park. So G80 wins if you ask me.

NikoBell12 I disagree Amg ultimatly means the car is more sporty. Mercedes as defualt is luxury and then you have Amg which leans more to the sport spectrum. But ti be sporty it comprises a little on comfort and luxury as well as fuel economy. However some people want something in between. They don't need a gas guzzling v8 but they don't want just any v6 e class they want a slightly better looking more atheltic sporty one. So this fits right in between nicely. The Amg project one will not be one man one engine yet it still will be arguably the best Amg to date. One man one engine isnt what makes an Amg an Amg. Its the sportyness of the car. Ehat Amg are doing with the 43 is creating a spectrum to give people a choice between how much luxury and sport they want over the other Its definitely a great replacement. Its interior is miles better and technology is light years ahead of the game not to mention the level of comfort and luxury it has over the genesis let alone the previous e55

Meh... after working in a few dealers I’d prefer the more reliable Genesis plus it has a lower cost of ownership. Korean carmakers are fallowing in the footsteps of Toyota/Lexus so I predict they’ll continue to get better over time. That fancy dashboard integrated with the infotainment in the Mercedes? IT WILL BREAK!!! And will cost hundreds if not thousands in parts and labor. That snappy quick shifting 9 speed gearbox in the Mercedes will cost more than the car is worth when the clutch pack burns out in that AMG! Don’t even get me started on the air ride and AMG brakes. Don’t get me wrong, I have a soft spot for Mercedes but they’re only good for leasing as they’ll cost at least 2x or 3x in repairs throughout the life of the car however long that is. Now I worked for Kia and the majority of the problems that came through were small quality issues that were often covered under warranty, the more serious powertrain defects were often covered either under the factory warranty or some type of warranty company. I’ve even seen situations where after enough complaints by a single customer Kia/Hyundai would cover a major repair even though it was totally outside of it’s warranty period just to make the customer happy. General Motors will not do that, we had a Chevy that was under warranty with a bad catalyst and they gave us the run around for a while before they finally took it into the shop to tell what we already knew. Never bought another Chevy after that.

There are people within that market that don't need so much tech and amazing HUDs and just want a nice, upper class car..but then there people who want the upper class car, and the name of merc + AMG who will pay the extra cash. Hmm... If you want to stand out from the rest of the pack in the Luxury class, G80 would be the go to. If you're a person who loves tech and lots of things to play with, the E43 I think would be the car for you. (I see a lot of people in the Tech industry with Benz these days) One thing that bugs me a lot with the G80, is that Adaptive Cruise control on the front grill. How durable is it? With the rough construction seasons, and oh so famous parking lot hit and runners, I forsee that being a pricey thing to replace.

I've driven both and personally find the E43 superior although the exhaust sound without the performance exhaust is lacklustre and has very discreet pops. The G80 is a very good car and I like the exterior styling more but I find the interior quality is poor and a let down. I understand it is a cheaper alternative to the E43 but it needs a far better interior to convince buyers away from the E43. I think a better comparison would be the E300 vs the G80 or the E400/450 vs the G80. I am a Mercedes/AMG fan boy and have consistently owned Mercedes only so I may be biased but the G80 is fantastic I think the Genesis brand has a lot of potential and I expect their cars to give the germans a run for their money

I absolutely hate the fake as hell quad tips that are molded in the bumper of the Mercedes with a plain old muffler clearly visible behind it. Like wtf you're spending 90k on a car for fake exhaust tips, my 2000 TL has real chrome tipped exhaust sticking out from the back. Since when did having real exhaust tips become so expensive these days?

They are not close at all. E43 is better in everyway. Luxury is not place to cheap out. Pay the extra and get the full experience. Anyways, if someone is shopping for midsize luxury sedan for 80k. 30k is just chump change.

I was actually cross shopping The E300 ( Because I can't Afford the E43)And the G80 sport. In actuality I don't even know how I stumbled upon the G80 Well I'm glad I did. Me personally I don't get caught up in brand identity. Both cars have everything I want. The things that the E class has That I will miss out on that I really want Is the ambient lighting. And the full digital display Which you have to buy the premium 3 package on the 300 Which is an additional $10200. Would you would still have to add The massaging seats At 1320 Adaptive headlights And if you want the high end burmaster sound system is an additional 4000 Bring in the E class to 75465. And you still only get Turbo 4 cylinder. The car they have spect in the video up think he said 91000. Me personally I don't think the Benz is a whole 2018 Mazda 6 signature More than The G80. But to each his own.

I own a Mercedes C300 (I initially was looking at the E class but found it to be too big of a car for my needs). I absolutely love the way it looks and drives. The interior is so well appointed and luxurious. I will agree that the infotainment system is a bit cumbersome to use, but you get used to it and it does have a lot of features.

I'm probably in the minority here. I really do not like all the slabby, tablet, animated gauge clusters in the luxury cars. I love tech but I prefer a tradition gauge cluster and seperate audio controls etc. I don't wanna slide for volume and I don't want to swipe menus. I want to blindly reach for knobs and turn them. I don't mind the middle section, in between the tach and speed being a screen but benz and tesla to me have gone too far. Audi seems like the perfect gauge cluster that's all tech. I'd go with the G80 just because of this. I happen to agree with you guys about the G80 looking more aggressive and being more unique. Bigger wheels on it and the diamond quilted leather of the G70 and it would be even better.

I owned a Mercedes E430 and it was SWEET. Quiet, powerful and smooth. My next car will be a G80. They're pretty sweet. I think the G90 is just too big, and parking in the city can be challenging.

I had a '05 E class and it was an engineering nightmare. Traded for the first Generation Genesis, a 4.6 ( '09 ). it was spectacular . Fast forward to 2018 , I bought a G80 5.0 Htrac ,did not want a V6 , and it came loaded to the gills. Everything is standard including Free maintenance. It is roomy , fast, Quiet ,Smooth and Reliable . Every where I go, it gets compliments . Unlike the Sport it has real wood in the interior and it looks fabulous . But the best thing, I don't see myself coming and going around every corner . If you are not into name cache ,like me , The G80 is worth considering. 👍🏿

The E43 somewhat goes back to one of the most desirable parts of owning an AMG...understated performance. One doesn't know it's an AMG until it blasts past you with a lovely sounding V6. New AMGs, like the E63, are obvious. They are really easy to spot. The bigger intakes, especially the big splitter on the front of all (except 43 models) AMGs now days. All the badging, redesigned lines like the bulging hood. It's things like that that have moved AMG toward performance (the BMW M route) and away from the luxury, understated-ness of AMGs. That's why I would have the E43.

I was in need of a new car and test drove both cars. I purchased the G80 Sport. Best value for the money...so much included. The G80 Sport also had very smooth ride. Final point...it really stands out!!!

I really like that you guys brought the price comparison in similarly equipped cars. At the end of the day, Price matters. Another point is that how funny it may sound, but one will look more unique in a Genesis (almost wrote Hyundai) rather than in MB. Also saw your video when you guys had a chance to "touch" the upcoming Kia Stinger, will be looking forward to your review of that car, hopefully sometime soon :)

That would be the Genesis G80 then. Modern Mercs are glitch fests on wheels. Also, they lack the engineering integrity and honesty they were once renowned for. All they do nowadays is cash in on that reputation and image they had in the old days. That same philosophy is now being applied to the AMG brand too. Hideously overpriced but no longer over-engineered.

So in Canada, the fully equipped G80 is $62k. The E43 before any features is $80k. With similar features to the G80, it's $103,250.00...On what planet are these even comparable? Let's compare the G80 to a $62k Mercedes with 200hp and no features to make it fair.

I have the 2017 G80 5.0 ultimate and It’s actually 4 modes, if you hold the mode switch button it goes to snow mode. So it’s Drive, eco, sport then hold for snow mode.

I drive the G80. Best decision I ever made. Here's a few things not mentioned in the video. The G80 comes fully loaded with features. The Mercedes comes stripped in comparison. Max it out with the same features and your paying 40% more. That's a lot of money. The G80 out of box: Auto wipers, auto high beams, heated seats front and back, heated steering wheel, ventilated seats, mirrors display the Genesis symbol on the floor at night when you walk up to car, trunk opens automatically when you stand close to trunk for 3 seconds, screen shades on all the back windows, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, cross traffic sensor, heads up display in color that shows you GPS, cruise Control settings, speed, music info, if someone is in blind spot, speed limit, your speed etc. It's epic! Never though I'd drive a Genesis. I get comments on it daily.
