2018 GMC Terrain infotainment System Problems

This infotainment system in the 2018 GMC Terrain is buggy for sure. Love the Apple Car Play but hate when the whole thing stops working.

My 2018 Terrain connects to my phone sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. A few random times the screen just went black and then came back on after a few minutes. Oh, and I can't change the time on the clock. So when the time changes in California I am off by one hour until the next time change

I have a 2018 GMC terrain that I bought brand new. In the beginning it was freezing and blanking out but honestly hasn’t done it in a long time. I did take it to the dealership for them to look at and he said there wasn’t anything wrong that he could see that maybe it was updating itself or some thing. I’m glad to know the other people have had the same issue. It was awkward because I couldn’t prove to the dealership that it was freezing or blinking out and he said there were no recalls or complaints listed about it yet. I hope everyone here has taken it to their certified GMC dealer with these complaints and maybe we can have some answers

I recorded it with my phone and showed them about 30 videos I also recorded my voice telling them what it was doing and when mine was doing a lot of different things

Mine is greying out the sirius presets and not holding them. We also had to buy new tires on our Denali after a year and a half, came with the Hancook tires that were terrible in the winter.

Yeah. I noticed that too with the tires. I traded that thing off a little over a year ago. Took a little bit of a hit but worth it in the long run. Thanks for watching and for writing :)

I too have had the same issues with the radio not working correctly, Blanking out the preset stations, and resetting randomly at times. I also have an issue when I plug in my iPhone to be charged... it will sometimes make the radio not work correctly. Now an error comes up that it can not connect to the network and an error code 408 comes up on the screen. I wish GMC would just own this issue and have someone fix it within the software for infotainment system.

Got a used 2018 6months ago. Took the risk. Infotainment is possessed and switches stations / hits buttons, at random - then may not hit the buttons you choose. Has anyone gotten a custom radio installed or anything? Other than this I have no issues with the vehicle.

I echo the sentiments of the users here. The infotainment locks up, the volume on the GPS/text messages BLARES at me and it doesn't stay at the setting I selected, and it randomly doesn't recognize my phone or allow the radio to play. This is my company's car. I'm so glad I don't own it. Also, someone mentioned the transmission locking up. Mine did that on a major highway. I couldn't go faster than 30 mph. Trucks were speeding by at 70 mph. Got it to the dealer an hour later and they said the computer needed to be reset. WTH.

My gmc does the same thing and many more. Does your transmission jerk? Tbh I will still by another gmc because I feels really premium for the money. I test drove all the suvs and the Mazda CX-5 seems to be the next best.

@@matt.a1vis I clicked the on star button and they rest my car and I haven’t had the issue since. But I no longer have the terrain i traded it for an Acadia witch is a world of difference. Such a great suv.

My transmission also jerks! I've taken it in for service and they can't find anything wrong.

Our Infotainment system randomly shuts off, and won't allow us to change time or date. Dealer says it's probably an update, nothing they can do

I’ve had problems with the infortainment as well! Just not good at all. Took my GMC in recently to fix a discovered issue where the radio doesn’t connect to an audio device (iPod, phone audio via Bluetooth) until you turn the car off and back on again. I haven’t had the issue since BUT now the radio seems to do whatever it wants with the audio, switching randomly between Sirius and my audio devices. It’s so annoying. I came from a Murano, and like you, I can’t wait to go back foreign unfortunately.

@@cliftonw1365 I haven't unfortunately. I think they over-designed it so that every time the car starts, it indexes your music so it's easier to search for songs and artists (great intentions). Because it does that though, you can never pick up on a tune where you left off if on a song, and the system always seems to jump back to the top of your list of songs when you try to chose something else. I hate it.

@@matt.a1vis My solution was to switch back to a Nissan haha. :) Got a 2021 Rogue Platinum last year, and I absolutely love it! Sorry if you're dealing with the issue. :(

My wife’s is doing this dealer can’t figure it out They replaced the HIM and the display and it still flickers and shuts off and works intermittently

Yes, I am facing this issue. I bought in September 2019 and in first month itself got this issue and they replaced the entire system. Then again it started with issues in 1 year, the audio system doesn't connect to Bluetooth devices, keeps restarting and finally affects other display controls. Seriously GMC car purchase was a bad decision. purchase.

My 2014 does that and won’t properly connect to my phone to steam music. It disconnected and randomly switches.

QUICK FIX IF NOTHING WORKS Turn your car off, get out and lock it. Turn it on with the remote start and it should work. works every time for me 😅

My 2021 GMC Terrain SLE has this same issue…audio equalizer settings do not save regardless of what I do, reset all settings and screen froze for hours…this is a complete embarrassment for GM, do not expect this shit out of a BRAND NEW 2021 CAR😡😡😡

Did you find out how to fix the equalizer settings issue? I’m having the same problem. Does your screen default to the settings menu when you turn on the car?

@@jordanlocklear6958 yes I finally figured it out. In settings under system there is an option to return to factory settings. Inside that page is “erase settings an personal data.” have not had an issue for over a month now, hope this helps!!

Bad problem dealership can’t fix two days at dealership hour drive there don’t know what problem is gmc is going to have law suits over this no doubt they are still denying it’s a problem. I was going to buy a new truck in the future now I’m thinking not.

@@matt.a1vis they fixed the camera staying on but the radio has lost its wattage I noticed it as soon as I turned on the radio it’s not a problem since it’s my wife’s car but there is a problem when you have a phone call the volume is so low on a phone call or if your speaking to o star you can’t understand what they are saying and my wife can’t hear them she can hear a pin drop.

The dealership fixed mine but it affected the radio and phone conversation volume I think they turn the wattage down on the amp for the radio and fix the camera some how.

I have a 2020 GMC Terrain and the stereo keeps turning un and off and it just wont work😖
