Right on, John! I kind of like the 2018 Heritage myself and that Anniversary Special is a nice bike right out of the box! The stock 18" blacked out windshield is a style thing that looks alright but ended up annoying me enough that I bought a 21" clear windshield and leave it off for local rides. The saddlebags are easy to remove, just unscrew the four Torx bolts holding them to the spacers and fender rails, then they lift up and off the rubber bushings on the frame. Try not to lose the o-rings that go on the bolts or smash/tear them when you put the bags back on, they help keep water from crawling along the bolts into the bags and then all over your used-to-be-dry stuff.

Thanks John, good work on the channel, I have an issue with paying $23,000 out the door and throwing away the mufflers immediately to get more noise with little upgrade in performance. I don't mind paying for cam and tuner to up the adrenaline, if the torque cam was "weird" what do you suggest, there are limited options without voiding the warranty. BTW I like the two tone windshield, but will probably leave it in the garage except winter months.
@TheHarleyTech7 жыл бұрын
Well, I just don’t want you thinking the torque cam brings a bunch of torque. It did great for horsepower, but torque was barely changed. I understand about the cost of bike and throwing away mufflers, but it doesn’t matter what brand bike or what cost, there is always better exhaust that breathes better than stock!

@jrg47607 жыл бұрын
John, thanks for the video, waiting on this bike to come to my Local dealer, IMHO the best of the new Line up. I am interested to find out if a stage 2 with torque cam is a logical move. Seems crazy to pay for new mufflers on a new bike just for more noise if the bike will perform with stock exhaust. Street Cannons, the only HD choice for SE reportedly sound about the same as stock, just a bit more noise. The 114 comes with HI Flow intake, so Stage 2 is cam and tuner, right?
@TheHarleyTech7 жыл бұрын
J R G stage 2 would be mufflers, tuner, and cam yes. The touring stage 2 we did with torque cam was weird. It gained 20+hp and 5 ft/lbs of torque. Why they call that the “torque” cam we may never know... In reference to mufflers, so you know if the SE mufflers have the catalyst in them like the stock mufflers? I haven’t done anything with SE mufflers, and haven’t looked into it. We have put some rineharts on. Sounded and looked good!

Hey does circulating the oil thru the head and exhaustb valves for cooling purposes result in any oil loss over time?
@TheHarleyTech7 жыл бұрын
There is an amount of oil loss that HD considers acceptable, but not sure where it’s lost other than the breather system. So far the only M8s I’ve been into are rocker box leaks, and brand new engines being built. So my knowledge isn’t as plentiful as the TC!

Hi John. Do you know if that chrome dome on the front wheel be removed without adding a spacer or such? Also wondered if you think the front end dives more than the other Softies? Don't know if it was just the one I rode, but that front really hit the deck even going slowly if the front brake is touched. Thought maybe the weight of the screen and running lights might be weighing on it. Aside from that it was a really nice ride.

Sometimes dealers suck like that. I haven’t put a rider backrest on a softail yet. To be honest, I didn’t know there was one. Seems like 90% of people take off the heel lever and I've always hated how Harley makes that little chrome piece go on the outside and look like a weird nub, rather than a nice spacer piece on the inside of the lever. So I guess I just like that H-D finally took a hint and gives you the option to add something for the few folks that want it, rather than making everybody pay for something they're going to throw in a drawer and then pay more money to cover it up. lol

Mrs. Mako and I both like this bike a lot, but a couple things are wrong (first year stuff the MoCo can easily fix hopefully): That blacked out windshield is crap for anyone that rides more than every other sunny Sunday. Running over shit at night on a interstate because you couldn't see it makes no sense. The rear bags are hard mounted, and as far as I can tell by looking at one this past weekend, there's no way listed in the P&A catelog to make the bags removable. You also have to pay Harley Tax on more parts to allow installation of a removable sissy bar, which is dumb and about as cheap as rocks. They made a huge stink at the dealers show about how easy it is to remove bags and a bar then don't equip the Classic with that set up? Really Harley, REALLLLY? Other than that, it's a damn good bike, just open your wallet to fix the dumb and it'll be solid. We still want one :)
@TheHarleyTech7 жыл бұрын
Seems HD always misses the mark, just a little bit. I’m not sure how removing these bags differ from past heritages. They still required tools, too. The functionality of the windshield is what gets me! You’re right about hitting something at night, but I don’t like any windshields anyway! So what color do you want?
@MakoVette7 жыл бұрын
Yeah old Heritage's were hard mounted bags, just a lot of disappointment the MoCo didn't make the bags removable given the price increase. Adding value and usability to a product that customers would love to have for maybe $25 worth of parts that are already in the bin should have been a no-brainer. But yeah :P I love the look of the bike w/o the windshield, but 10 hours of saddle time without one gets real tiresome real fast. They also stop a ton of crap from smacking into the rider - yellow jackets need to all die in a fire darnit :D Mrs Mako says Red Iron Denim with the 114 if you please.
