Thank you for all of the positive comments and understanding how busy John truly is. On top of this crazy shop he never misses a soccer practice or game. He also had our 3 year old at work with him one day this week, helped with school pick ups while one of our vehicles was at the dealership, managed to give a few kids a bath one night, and even put up a new dinosaur light fixture. I promise you the awesome person you see in videos is who he is 24/7 in “real life”.

Ooops, think I accidentally deleted my message,. Great to hear from Mrs. Maxwell. Owning a business can be a giant time suck. That is awesome to heart that he still makes time for family. It is also nice to hear of your kind supportive words. Having a supportive spouse makes all the difference. Been watching John for quite some time and am delighted to see his (and your) success. We miss his vids on youtube.

You really gave us a feel for “a day in the life”. Kudos to whoever is behind the camera. Several years ago my son started a landscaping business and I did the office work including payroll, bills, advertising, accounting, state and federal taxes, etc. it took about 20 hours per week. Happy I was when he decided he preferred working on mowers and works as a mechanic for a dealer.

Running your own business is not easy. I had a gunsmith shop for several years and know the difficulties of being a one man shop. The number one problem is being able to find people that are able to actually do things without babysitting. It will come together. Office manager is important! That way you can do what YOU need to do!

The work levels are like the tide, up and down. It's the beginning of riding season so everyone is waiting till the last minute and dropping their bikes off for service. Jon has been a mechanic for a while and should already have an idea of his trade's work cycle. It will take a couple seasons before he knows exactly what to expect from his shop. If it was me I would try to hire a part-time mechanic or possibly have a guy come in as a subcontractor until the rush is over. Full-time employees are a huge expense and hiring one should be carefully considered.

This brings back memories. Ran a shop with one buddy. Trying to keep track of parts in stock, working on bikes while answering the phone every 10 minutes, having to stop working every time someone walks in and wants to chat, trying to sell new bikes to ppl, taking in used bikes. Fuck man trying to be a manager, parts guy, mechanic, salesman, customer service all in one is hectic as hell. I do kinda miss it tho lol.
