The Accord has always been the Standard of the World for mainstream sedans....regardless of price difference or trim levels to its competition. It's the reason the Accord is the Number 1, Retail selling sedan since the 4th Generation debuted in North America. Only way Toyota gets the Crown overall Number 1 spot is by dumping vehicles to Government, and Fleet buyers. Honda has never followed that trap....even in slow times (depressed car market), large numbers of Retail consumers always flock to Honda Dealerships.
@thevoxdeus6 жыл бұрын
When you're looking at the real price out the door it's more like a 9k difference. Seriously, top trim and better engine on the Accord vs mid level trim and worse engine on the Camry. Wouldn't actually affect the stuff they like best about the Accord, since the interior is solid on the mid trim models, but it would impact the driving experience. That weaker torque at low speeds on the Camry might be solved with 50% more horse power.

I shopped between the Accord and the Camry, and bought the Camry with my own money. And since the Camry came out months ahead, a similar MSRP Accord would have costed 2k more. I admit the Accord is certainly better in the infotainment area. But I didn't like the poor ground insulation in the Accord since all the road noise sounds like it's coming from the ground. I found the Camry slightly quieter and I think will be more reliable.
@1973TJM6 жыл бұрын
I just bought the Accord and have not gotten the impression it is noisy inside. Did you actually compare the 2018 or just the 2017 Accord? The 2018 also has active noise suppression (like Bose).
@ronako26 жыл бұрын
Yes, I compared it to the 2018 Accord. I test drove several in fact. But once I sat in Camry, it was noticeably quieter. But I suppose it's a matter of preference. I prioritized reliability, hence why I leaned toward the Camry. Honda's reliability has been falling the past several years, so I didn't want to take the chance on the Accord for the 1st year model redesign. Or maybe I'm a little biased since my car before was a Camry as well which lasted 11 years which I only replaced because I wanted something new.

Thanks for the reply. I agree with buying a Camry if you had previous good (great!) experience with them. I have never bought a Toyota or a Honda before. I traded my Camry for a Honda Accord (loaded). Biggest mistake of my adult life! My Camry never spent a day in the shop & I traded it in with 103,000 flawless miles on it. At 75,000 miles on the Accord the transmission went out (complete loss & had to have the entire transmission replaced). Two months after the transmission went out the power steering pump went out. Not to mention every panel on the Accord (hood, front quarter panels, roof, deck lid & rear quarter panels) developed huge discoloration where the paint flaked off & basically made the Accord look like it had paint cancer. Somewhere in all of that the power locks stopped working & the center display went out. I’m never going the Honda route again. I am back in a Toyota (Prius- that has out-lasted the Accord with zero problems) & will probably opt for a Camry when I am done with my Prius. Also, Consumer Reports & other indexes that measure cars & consumer satisfaction put Toyota at #1 (not Honda) & to show how great & consistent Toyota is their luxury division, Lexus, is #1 in the luxury lineup of automobiles (not Acura- in fact, Acura has been slipping). At the end of the day, Toyota just builds them better. A lot better.

You've made some valid points, but to say that Camry isn't even on par with a Mazda that required a name change (Mazda 626 to 6) is reaching. Also the Accord needed to make the change to cvt to address their transmission issues, so unless you really believe that it was done to increase fuel economy your still reaching. Mazda 6 has the highest fuel eco in the class and it does not have or require a cvt to accomplish it. This is Coming from someone who agrees with you that the 18 Accord is a win over the Camry but disagrees with your reasoning.

Toyota is probably a notch ahead in overall reliability at the moment, and i'm on my 6th Honda so no bias here. All of mine have been very reliable, but Honda has had some problematic transmissions and some good ones. No problem with their 6 speeds, but the verdict will be out in a few years on these newer transmissions. Honda does make the most reliable engines though and they are taking more chances with their powertrains at the moment. We'll have to wait and see how these new turbo engines, CVT's and 10 speeds hold up on the Hondas. A naturally aspirated inline 4 Honda with a manual transmission will no doubt be extremely reliable, but there is definitely more potential for things to go wrong when the powertrains get more complicated.

Both cars are an improvement, but the Accord is much more so. My dad was looking for a new car and I had him test both (along with other makes) and I was shocked how much the Accord was improved over the 2017 that a friend has. The Camry on the other hand while having improved styling still felt like an appliance compared to much of the rest of the competition. Not enough excitement.

+Heyu Yoma exactly. Almost all car companies have a similar look (either grill, design, etc.) Toyota on the other hand has no signature look. All their vehicles look different. The Yaris is a rebadged Mazda. The 86 is a rebadged Subaru. It's like Toyota is confused as to what they wanna look like. Don't get me wrong, some vehicles have resembles (like the front end of the new Prius, Rav4 and CHR), but other than that, Toyota's lineup is all over the place in terms of design.

They are both really nice cars, they actually do. What i like the of the Accord are the headlights, they look awesome (like Audi or Mercedes), but Toyota have always made great cars, the quality is better and I like the difuser in the back of the Camry, looks great. I honestly prefer the Toyota.

Don't get me wrong, I'm on the Accord's side, but it wasn't a fair test. You used the highest trim level accord, versus a mid level Camry. You should have compared the Touring to the XLE
@b.f.3786 жыл бұрын
I wasn't really a fan of the new Accord design when I first saw it & instantly thought the Camry was much better. But now I've gotten used to the design. The Accord has a better front end, but the Camry has a better back end. Both interiors are nice (Accord looks like an European luxury car inside, while the Camry has a nice Avalon-look inside). But since I drive an Accord & love it, I'd take an Accord.

Never would have believed this as I was never into Toyotas....but on a whim I decided to try it. Now 6 years later, 2024, exactly 0 issues ever with this car. My last Honda the transmission went out at 47,000 miles and BMW ...well, nothing needs to be said about it's maintenance issues except 'A lot'. Oh, I got the Toyota hybrid, because I just trusted their background with hybrids.

I bought 2018 Camry 2.5L XLE for $26k OTD, equivalent 2018 Accord 1.5L is costing $33k OTD with CVT. So considering 7k cost difference Camry is way better and it will come 8 speed automatic with naturally aspirated engine not CVT with small turbo engine. I am missing AndroidAuto and AppleCarPlay but definitely not worth for paying 7k. For the price I can get luxury Sedan's which will be way better than Accord. Honda Accord is overpriced thats why its sales are down compared to Camry. I agree Accord 2.0L 10 speed Automatic is better compared to 2.5L 8 speed Automatic but price difference is almost $10k. I can get Lexus 350 for that price then why should I buy Accord?
@jakesmith60175 жыл бұрын
Test drove both. Your reviews were precise and accurate on everything, although in my opinion yall down played the throttle response on the Honda. There is a noticeable delay when driving this vehicle in comparison to the Camry. Like I said thats just my opinion. The head unit was in fact more user friendly in the Honda and there was more room in the back of the Honda so it comes down to financing and what matters more to the buyer.

Test drove the Camry SE and Accord EX back to back today. Liked both a lot but was leaning toward the Camry as there was less road noise and felt more luxurious. Then I read Edmunds owner review comments on the infotainment/phone interface on the Camry as well as this video and that is a huge concern. The Accord Apple Carplay syncing up to the car was awesome and effortless. So the choice is avoiding daily/weekly aggravation with the Camry connectivity for the price of having a small turbo engine.

@skifree06 жыл бұрын
It depends on how you look at it, from a reliability standpoint no matter how flawed the CVT is in long term reliability, we are talking about HONDA here. Their 5AT (traditional) automatic is terrible for reliability, basically requiring a rebuild if you want to keep if for the long haul. And if we area talking about "fun" aspect of it. Suck it up and buy a manual. I've test driven the CVT on the Honda, it is sluggish, but I found almost all auto's except the ZF8 to be like that.

The main reason I bought my Black 2.0T Sport was BECAUSE it had a stick (I am not an automotive journalist). The Accord punches above its weight class. This 10th gen is worlds better than the previous iteration. The Camry will always be a Camry(grandparents car- no apple car-play or android auto- wtf??). Even with the V6 I would still choose the force-fed 4 banger with a stick as a mild tune will get you 300hp and 350+lbs of torque. Save the manuals.

So by your logic I shouldn't buy a WRX I should buy an STI ? Thanks for that. Anyway never said I bought it to tune but it is nice to know the car has potential for more power (considering it is basically a detuned type R motor). Also most people wouldn't be surprised by a Type R if it was tuned, however a 4 door family sedan would def be a sleeper and surprise folks if it were tuned and making close to 300HP.

A lot of mainstream manufacturers didn't incorporate it until 2016/17. Our 17 CRV has it and it's pretty nice to have full voice controls and navi. It no longer has a CD player and some older owners in the forums didn't like that. The fact is optical drives are no longer the norm for new computers and media in general. Supporting a dead technology makes no sense if you're making forward-thinking products - unless you must appeal to your older demographic.

Everyone is talking about the Camry having a V6 option but look around majority of the customers get the 4 cyl option and when you look at it that way the Accord is better and the interior on the Accord is miles better. Normal buyers of these cars really dont care about having 300hp, they want a reliable comfortable car that will take them places. The accord wins. Also, if it were me I wouldnt bother with buying a new Camry with a v6, Id go with a year or two old Lexus ES350 or a GS.

I have a 2014 EX-L and do love it. I've always felt the high end Accord was really somewhere in between the Camry and the Avalon so maybe the comparison is not totally fair. I've always liked how Honda really just prices a trim line and appoints it well with usually the only upgrade being GPS and who needs that anymore. I was worried about my CVT but it really is a nice smooth transmission with no issues as of 52k. I wanted to give the new Touring 2.0 a year to prove itself and may buy next year. As for the USB, just spent two hours with the grandson in the back, no problem stretching out long cord from the front to the back. Four people should not have a problem sharing two ports IMO.
