Pro tip... I have a sonata very similar to your tester. The computer consistently lies about mpg. It tends to overstate by 2 mpg. Do the math instead. These cars consistently sell for great prices, even new. Has proven perfectly reliable for 22k miles. Doesn't even rattle. Pleasantly surprised. Thx for the review!

cant do the MPG manually if you only drive the car for 300 miles and give it back with an empty tank.

@@chadhaire1711 fair enough. I typically get 32 mpg doing 70% hwy 30% city. Decent, but I believe an accord or Camry base 4cyl would do better.

Chad. I really liked this car review video. You have a nice way of speaking that is a little different from other car reviewers, which made the review a little better than most others. I enjoyed the extra time you spent talking about the cons of owning a dark colored car in a hot climate.

I have this car. Love it. I agree about the low and high beams. I drive mostly in the city, and on our expressway known as the “parkway” (don’t ask) at night I have to put the high beams on quite often at times.

You can turn the chime off via the Multifunction display in between the cluster, it’s actually very easy. Just have to go to the settings section I believe. We just bought a 18 Sonata SEL with Tech Package in Black with a Beige Interior. Got it for a very good price, $22k out the door for everything. You can’t beat that. Honestly I prefer the steering in my 15 C 300 4Matic Sport. The Sonata’s lane keep assist with the tech package can be kind of annoying as well; always fighting it. So I either have just the Lane Departure warning setting on or the Lane Keep System completely off. The display and infotainment is great, and the rest of the safety systems are superb. So all and all a very smart valued midsize family sedan. The 2018 Refresh is great as well. 1 last note, I can’t stand it when people say something looks like another manufacturer when it clearly doesn’t. My brother said the same thing about the Sonata, looks like a Lexus. It really doesn’t look a Lexus or BMW at all. Anyways, keep up the good work.

Yeah we live in Ohio, so it's not a big deal. My dad lives in Abu Dhabi, where pretty much everyone has white painted cars, and black ones are less common. Paint color and temp is a non-issue in my opinion, you get what ya like and what's available.

If your air conditioner dies on a hot 120 degree day, and you have a black paint job, you will see the difference when you are melting!

Yeah but the likelihood of that happening, especially in a new car, is very uncommon, not to mention you could still have air, plus windows. I'm not sure how many people would be driving point to point in a vacant desert, and will have both an A/C failure and Engine failure, and not have the ability to call for help via phone or car service. If you're just going to work or the grocery store, I'm not sure people would be mad at their paint job when the A/C fails, they'll just get it fixed. (Again in the rare event that it does happen)

Nice review! I'm in the market for a new sedan and the Sonata is definitely in the running. I like the new style over the 2017 version. Too bad the SEL trim does not come with a sunroof option......I just like having the sunroof to cool down the car faster (heat rises). If I do get a 2018 Sonata, it will have to be either the Sport or Limited trim (for the sunroof)....hmmmm..decisions. The Sport likes nice with the dual chrome exhaust, aluminum sport pedals.....not sure if I like the honeycomb grill on the Sport better than the SEL or Limited's grill..... also, some may not like the fake wood accents on the Limited trim, but I guess I'll see for myself during a test drive....

Kia Stinger is a nice car, however it has 2 strikes against it for me: 1. Smaller interior than the Sonata (with 2 growing kids, I need all the room in the back that I can), 2. All trims require premium fuel (which is expensive as heck in NY).

Thanks for reviewing my favorite sedan of 2018. You can easily get a Sonata SE for $19,000. out-the-door price. That is about the same as a Honda Civic LX sedan, which is much smaller. I was wondering if you have ever tested silver paint with your heat tester. I know silver is not as reflective as white, but I have found that silver painted cars look better over the years and do not show dirt and dust like both white and black paint. Do you have an opinion on this matter?

Silver paint heats up a bit as well as dark green......coolest is white or gold metallic. Silver is hard to match if it sits out in the sun over time due to fade.

About 80% of BMW 3 series sold here are white, black, or silver for some reason...too bad..I think red or metallic gold works best.

The 2.0 t is no faster from 0 to 60 actually a little slower by about .4 seconds might be better from 40 to 80

Our 2018 Sonata hybrid gets better gas mileage than your testing. It's been averaging 44 mpg. most the time. The mpg has seemed to improve the longer we've had it than when it was new.
