2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Off Road

Some clips from my first off roading excursion in the Trailhawk with my partner recording from his Rubicon. Unfortunately the Rubicon had a bug splattered on the windshield in front of the camera. I’m always looking for GC Trailhawk off roading videos and there seems to be a lack of them so I wanted to share. This was nothing challenging, just took it out for the first time to get the feel of it and mess around with settings. Location is east of San Diego.

Nice video. No annoying music, just the sounds of the vehicle and the trail. I'm really liking the GC Trailhawk. Not as capable as the Wrangler but still very capable and a better daily vehicle I think.

I love love love this Trailhawk! I had a 2014 Limited with Quadra-Trac II and I added all terrain tires. Did some off roading but I quickly knew I wanted more capability. When they added CarPlay I knew it was a good time for me to upgrade. The air suspension and QD2 limited rear slip make a HUGE difference. I am so much more confident now when we’re out and about. I’m also super happy the Trailhawk doesn’t have chrome all over. Makes it look more aggressive. I opted for the safety tech package and so glad I did! We’ve done a few trips now so I’ll upload a couple more videos soon. Too hot to do any trips now but more to come in Fall season.

soo im thinkin of towing a teardrop trailer and mild offroading as the trailer wont permit much...should i get a cherokee or a wrangler?? thx in advance

I don’t know a lot about the Cherokee’s but I love my Grand Cherokee. I do see a lot of Cherokee videos and it seems plenty capable for mild off-roading. I love Wranglers and would have purchased one but as a daily driver the GC is much more comfortable and more tech like adaptive cruise control. If you opt for the Cherokee I would suggest at least a Trailhawk, then you would have less worry going off-road.

dansandiego ya i ment the grand cherokee sry..ya i agree on comfort and adaptive cruise control, if i had the wrangler i whouldnt rock crawl anyway just think its cool, ill prolly go GC...when you get a diffrent engine other then 3.6l you loose QD2 and have to have QT2...thats poo as i wamted the hemi :(

Yeah the 3.6 has a surprising amount of power but it’s no Hemi. A Wrangler won’t get you a Hemi either though. I would opt for QD2 though if you want to do some proper off-roading. And towing a tear drop would be super easy, I used to tow a 23’ trailer no problem. Someday I hope to get a Wrangler as a second vehicle to play with but for now the GC is plenty good.

I've had my 2018 GC Trailhawk for about a month now. I got rid of a 2015 Lexus g350 F sport for it, and so glad I did. The on-road ride is just as nice and the sound system and electronics much better. Quiet, too, and that sunroof! I bought it in Rhino gray and get nothing but compliments. Have not had the occasion to take it offroad but I feel incredible safe and secure in this vehicle. It's the nicest car/truck I've ever had.

Great video man. I really hope you post more videos. I have GC Trailhawk myself. I took it to drive on some sand dunes. I have to do more extreme adventures. Keep it up bro and enjoy it. What air suspension setting you used ?

Fahd Abdulaziz Thanks man! It was so hot early this season so I didn’t get out much but I plan on hitting it much harder when the temps drop in the desert. I’ll be sure to get plenty of video and post more. Most of the time I was in Off-road 1, only on a couple deeper ruts I lifted to Off-road 2. How did your’s do on the sand dunes?

Nice! Trailhawk is a good overall vehicle,,,add some BF Goodrich tires to it! I added Magna flo exhaust system to mine, added some Horsepower to the V6. Sounds good too, Been on the Bradshaw Trail, Berdoo Canyon Trail, and whatever trail looks interesting, go for it! Keep on Jeepin

Zubair Zulhaj - it’s not in 4 low, just regular 4 high auto setting. Air suspension was mostly at off-road 1, with a couple times on off-road 2.

the 4runner and wranglers onroad behavior is trash in comparison... whats the problem.. the trailhawk is a package deal that cannot be beat by any offroad on onroad worthy competition, blending together great offroadability and luxury onroad

I think it takes a different kind of brave to wheel a rig that lifts a tire as often as the GC. The rig can and will take you almost anywhere you want to go if your willing to trust it.

The 4Runner isn't that great with articulation either. Maybe the rear axle articulates better, but the front end is still independent with the same basic articulation level the WK2 has. ARXDMOS has a point, though. The GC is still highly capable off road while being miles better on road. It's just a different driving experience with it lifting a wheel frequently over the gnarlier sections of trails. With the modern torque vectoring/traction control clever programming out these days, you don't necessarily need all the articulation to get through crazy trails. It will direct the power where it needs to go to make it power through. VW Touaregs are surprisingly good at this as well (especially the early ones with optional air suspension and rear diff lock). Of course the problem there is they're difficult and expensive to fix. Just hope they don't break on a trail! Won't be easy to recover.
