Grand Cherokee WK2 on the Tahuya 4x4 Trail

I took my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee on the Tuhuya 4x4 trail in Washington State. Wanted to share in case anyone else was also considering doing the trial. Was able to do it without too much trouble, but it can definitely be challenging at times.
Some of the most difficult obstacles are not shown as we were too busy with trying to get through them. It was a ton of fun and a great way to spend a day.

Pleasantly surprised you did this on qudratrac 1 great job I just bought the high altitude after owning a YJ, TJ and a JKUR and just traded in the SRT GC. this video tells me I made the right choice looking for really comfortable, powerful (5.7) and off road capable do a degree.

its more than to a degree capable off road lol. WK2s can handle pretty much anything besides big rock climbing really that you'd need more clearance and lockers for

Thanks for sharing. Is that really a 2018 altitude? Why are the headlights halogen? Quick tip the front skirt comes off fairly easy for the purpose of off roading :) cheers

It's really a 2018 altitude. The headlights are halogen projectors. I think that only higher trim levels such as the "high altitudes" have HID headlights. Thanks for the tip on the front air damn. I've taken it off before. With this lift I find that I'm much more likely to scrape the rear rather than the front. I never needed to take the front off on this trail.

this is extremely similar to the type of wheeling i do. just ordered wildpeaks in 275/65/18 and 265/65/18 for my 17 trailhawk GC. you ever do any damage to the liners/fenders with that large of tires? everyone says that's the "biggest size" but noody actually wheels hard with them.

I haven't had any rubbing or damage with my tire size. With the lift I'm supposed to be able to fit up to a 33" tire but I chose 32" to ensure that I don't rub at maximum suspension articulation.

I run 33s, def can rip up the liner if your gonna push it hard, mine has a couple spots where it’s starting to go. In my opinion the felt liner is stupid anyway and I will probably do away with them in the near future.

Thank you. They're the factory Mopar cross bars on top. I have them mounted to the Trail Hawk roof rails.

Thanks man. The computer based brake system of locking a wheel up to send power to the other side really helps on these more modern Grand Cherokees. It just had the standard 3.6 Pentastar gas V6 and a K&N intake on it.

It's the rough country front and rear kit. I think it's 2" on the front and 1.5" on the rear. I'm running 275/65/18 tires which is just over 32" diameter. They say you can run a 33" tire with this lift but I would think that it might rub. I don't get any rubbing with mine..

I have 2015 altitude and looking for this kind of set up. Does getting a 18 inch wheel make a big difference with off roading rather than the stock 20 with slightly bigger tires? Was thinking of getting a 275/55/20 set up on the stock rims

I'm sure that a 275/55/20 would work fine. That would be almost the same diameter as my 275/65/18. You may rub a little without a lift though. I went with an 18" wheel because the extra sidewall will help when aired down off road, you'll have a larger foot print. It also makes the ride more comfortable with the extra sidewall height on an 18" wheel. I do like the look of a 20" wheel with 32" or 33" tires so I was tempted to go that route as well myself.

Besides folding back the pinch weld did you have to do any fender trimming to fit those tires without rubbing?

I didn't have to fold the pinch weld back at all. So far I've had no rubbing, and I'm used to rubbing as I've had nothing but lowered Volkswagens prior to this.

Is the lift kit just the spacers for rough country? And how have they held up since installation?

Yeah it's just the Rough Country spacer kit. Technically mine was the "Tough Country" re-branding of the kit. I had the lift done at Les Schwab and they sell it as "Tough Country". I haven't had any problems with the kit itself. Only thing i noticed from day one was a slight vibration from the front end under hard acceleration. I assume this is due to the front CV axles being at such a steep angle due to the lift.

Wow that’s the 2.5 lift?didnt look like it. I have a 2015 GC limited with leveling struts up front with same size tires. Do you have terrain select controls on yours?

It's 2.5" lift on the front and 1" on the rear. I don't have terrain select or air ride. I just have the single speed transfer case "4 high only".

It did pretty well for it having that. I have the selectable and the 4lo is really nice with that 8speeds trans. Does pretty well in the snow. It’s amazing how high it lifts tires but inside the vehicle it seems normal

Josh Zwink what motor? How bad did it hit your fuel economy?

@@f5snopro11 it has the 3.6 pentastar engine. Before the lift and tires I would average 18-19 mpg combined and 25 mpg on the freeway. Now I average around 17 mpg cobined and I can still get around 24 mpg on the freeway. Not a big difference but it's noticeable.

Do you have the air suspension lift kit and were you on 4wd low?

It's a physical spacer lift kit as it's spring suspension (no air ride). The whole thing was done in 4WD high as I have quadra-track 1 which doesn't have the low range.

How’s it do off-road with the quadratrac 1 system? Are you happy with it?

It did pretty well. I was really happy with it. For the first couple miles I saw obstacles that I never thought it would make it through. By about the half way point, I just went through each obstacle without much worry. 4-low on the quadra-trac II would have been really nice to have, but it wasn't necessarily needed.
