Question here is, why Suzuki can't provide the following features in all together combined in one variant? 1. Diesel-Hybrid engine 2. Automatic transmission with "CVT" 3. Sunroof 4. Rear A/c vent 5. Dual dashboard storage (upper can be w/o cover) for co-driver Why they always try hard to design various variants of their different models to ensure that the customer won't get all of these facilities together in one single car?

It's the biggest con in Indian car history maruti use the same engine virtually for all their 20 odd models. So school van has the same engine as a top of the range swift. The car looks good but the engine mmm. Honda brv for another 1-2 lakhs

You are right. But check what we have been offered other than this in India. CVT with rubber band effect, AMT-the-not-real-AT, under-performing, high maintenance DSG. None of the alternates are still not offered as a good replacement. We have no good option at all. Except the one that comes with Polo GT TSI, any other AT below 15L in India is just a disappointment from the Indian car manufacturers. In a fuel-conscious society, they guess they cannot offer a modern AT boxes!

I think its real competitor is the Renault Lodgy. Though old, it can still give some tough competition in the form of space and performance. The larger 1.5 Duster sourced engine is definitely more peppy and eager to rev than the aging 1.3 MultiJet diesel.

Diesel any day for torque and milage. Petrol mpv a big no there is no pulling power in lower gears and u will suffer in hills with lesser torque from a petrol mltor

Depends on ur usage sir. If u use it more on highways and empty section of roads, Diesel is a good option. It pulls off cleanly and can run upto 120-140 even with full load. But if u do a city commute more often, it might get frustrating to change gears very often and it suffers a very high turbo lag. If 60-70% of ur usage is in city, I would suggest the petrol auto than diesel. But if ur usage is more on highways and would be more that 12k kms per year, go for the diesel. Considering the minimal price difference between petrol and diesel prices. I one a 1st gen 2012 model Ertiga vdi.

for those of you concerned about the build quality i have an observation. I drive an ecosport and 3rd gen city i vtech and obviously the sheet metal is no match for any ford or vw or even a Hyundai amd yes u can call it a tin but i found out the sheet metal to be thicker than my honda city. So yes its not as tinny as the baleno or other maruti products but certainly no tank either. Im concerned about the platform as the heartech platform was declared unstable in the swift and recieved a poor 2 starts( indian version).

If your budget is of top Model Ertiga 2018 I'd suggest you to go with Mahindra Marazzo M6 it would cost you 15.5 L on road* yeah slightly more then the Ertiga but it's worth it.

Testing vehicles in real-life usage and conditions would make TD reports better. Can Autocar consider TD reports based out of testing in fully-loaded with passengers? This Ertiga testing would be good with 6 people and some luggage - as MPVs are consumed for larger families. We will see how they work really. Otherwise, no TD is actually a TD!

That multijet diesel of ertiga is just plain crap in my opinion. It has annoying turbo lag, more pronounced with 5 people on board and Ac running. Unrefined and clattery, OK I understand that diesels do sounds clattery. Again in highway whenever you want to push it for overtaking, that irritating turbo lag catches you. And why such a puny 1.3 motor for a car like the size of ertiga? It'll just gasping for breath in hilly areas or in ghat sections. Maruti must give a 1.5 liter diesel just like the competition.
