You must be new to the whole car thing or you've just forgotten how good AMG engines used to sound. The SLR sounded like a WWII airplane and you pretty much can't beat the 6.2 that was in the SLS. In fact, they still still use that engine in the GTS race car because it's far superior to the TT 4.0.

Hea Mees nothing used to sound like before all cars now sound muted except for the gt3 its one of the only car you can get on the current market(2017-2018) that sounds absolutely beautiful and pornogtaphic the gt3 is the the best except for v10's and v12 N/A that sound good

I was lucky enough to drive a friends green one on a mixture of roads including tight twisty stuff. Ok, I’m only a Cayman driver, but it was so good. The drama, the power, the feel of rear steering out of hairpins…sublime. I’f have one in a heartbeat.

Well the 2017 e63 wagon makes 603hp from that engine so I'd say that this still definitely has room to go up.

UzzyFuzzy do you have a source for that? Like Necrosis said, this top spec GT R is still down 30 horse on other AMG models with the same engine. Would make sense that AMG is leaving space for continued development of an even more hardcore GT model.

Alan Bowers It’s exists as it was produced in recent years. There are still cars out there to be had will very low miles. Also the the GT2 RS is not simply a car that you can walk into a dealership and buy. Every one that is being made is already spoken for. Porsche invites select buyers to buy the car unlike the Merc which is not being held for select buyers. Not to mention the price. The GT3 RS stakes up well against the Merc. The GT2 RS is a 500k car provided you can find someone willing to sell you one.

Porsche still sets the benchmark for track cars. However, I don't really understand why people compare the 911 gt3 and the AMG gtr. I think they're fundamentally different cars. I.e. Engine location, design, interior and etc

I have testdriven the 911GT3 and the GT R. They are completely different animals. The GT R´s V8 has mountains of torque at lower RPM as the GT3 has to be spinned up for power. I ordered the GT3, as i don´t use the car as daily driver. As daily driver i would have chosen the GT R or C, because the GT3 is by daily driving in low RPM not very performant. Bcs. driving with 5-6000 revs the GT3 thru the city is a bit odd and awkward.

Interesting your comments on the steering being better more intuitive and slower then the original GTS. Sadly for me i have the GTS and I still sometimes doubt myself or the car/steering when pushing the vehicle, slight disconnect feeling. But great to hear they have tweaked it on the GTR.

To get rid of the darty front end you need to lower the front tire pressure by 1psi and possibly increase the rear by 1psi. In all honesty, you're on the wrong tires in the wet, and doubtful they have good heat in them.

Darty front? What pressures are you running? I'm at 35 PSI front and 36 rear with Cup 2, and zero issues. The biggest issue on track is too much understeer. If you think this is darty, try a Pista.

Benz has a winner on their hands, but they need a manual box in this car to really take over and piss off Porsche. This car deserves a manual box more than any other on the market. It’s already such a raw car with a TT V8 and RWD.

*SORRY,* but Mercedes-AMG GT R is not competing against Porsche 911 GT3 as the cares are of vastly different size and weight. More realistically, GT R competes against Audi, BMW and Nissan that have cars that are not far off in terms of size and weight.

A nightmare in the wet? Our GTR is wifeys winter daily driver. Just get tyres for the weather and usage. She runs Cup 2 all summer in Scandinavia. Zero issues. Better than mid engined Ferraris? My Pista says no and so does the track times, and the understeer from the GTR.

To be honest this car looks really good and not a big merc fan but it took to long time and with the GT2 RS / GT3 RS en route and the 720’s and even the Performante think there were a bit conservative with the power I know power isn’t everything but it’s not going to stand up well against the competition it should of been more outlandish 👍🏻

alex that's nit called fabricating. That's called giving the driver control over them which I like.... Because every time you downshift it will crackle which is awesome... Its under your control... Where as "natural" ones occur randomly. With this you create your own symphony/orchestra of crackles at your own desire. Its awesome and really suits the character of he car.... Adding to its persona.
