I picked my New MT-09 SP up yesterday and whilst pulling out of the dealers car park I noticed I was on a dusty small gravelly surface and instantly thought of you. Took it easy and pulled away beautifully. Hope to have a great future with this machine, that I have totally fallen for. The gurgle on down shifting is something else. These MT-09 SP's are a bit special at a fantastic price.

I find the horn placement on Yamaha bikes strange, I caught it a few times on the YBR125 on my CBT, so you're not the only one who finds it strange and catches it. Sorry to hear that you had a not so good start to your 2018 season riding but glad everything worked out for you in the end. Safe riding Dave 🙂🏍️

Done that myself with a disc lock, hate the things. So I threw mine away and got one of them brake lever clamps, as soon as you sit on your bike it's just simply impossible to move off without removing it. Good to see someone riding on familiar territory we can't live that far apart, I'm in north Manchester area and recognise the Belmont and Withnell roads you use etc. Keep up the great vlogging.

Thanks Stephen. It's the first time I've ever done that with a disk lock, but I felt such a tit doing it that I've found a bit of cord to stretch from the lock to my throttle. Hopefully this will remind me in future

Glad to see you were not injured in your spills and your bikes only received minor damage. Congratulations on the new bike, looks great. Enjoy your channel very much, great reviews, good detail in your narration, and beautiful scenery. Would love to see you do a review on Zero DSR electric motorcycle. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts and review of an electric motorcycle, coming from a person with your knowledge and riding experience. Would also would love to see you do a touring video of Wrynose and Hardknott passes. Love looking at your beautiful British country side. Love your channel, hope you have a great riding season, stay safe.

Ouch, I feel your anguish. Coincidentally I also picked up a brand spanking new MT09 at beginning of March when the new 18 plates came out. As you say, weather has been rubbish for the last few weeks so ive only done 40 miles on her this last Sunday. From what I can tell so far the bike is going to be a very enjoyable machine! Hard to believe it is an 850cc because it has the mid range of a bigger machine. It is just that little bit more torquey than my 2004 Triumph Speed Triple 955i, but only just.
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, the torque really does punch above its weight doesn't it. I've been riding litre+ bikes for the last 18 years, and this bike has more than enough to keep me happy, and I'm loving the feeling of a small nippy bike under me. Fingers grossed for some nice weather so we can both get out on our new toys :)

Congratulations on the new bike mate, what a lovely looking machine indeed. The first incident, well we’ve all been there at one point or another haven’t we. The second incident, ouch! I feel for you buddy. Just glad there’s not any significant damage. That would’ve been a hard pill to swallow. I bought a 2017 RSV4 RF last summer and within the first month, a young girl went into the side of me at a junction. Luckily no damage at all but for a second or two my heart was in my mouth. Enjoy the Mt 09 this summer and ride safe. Nice edit switching between bikes btw!

Glad ur OK and bikes OK - although surprised the disk lock didn't damage the caliper. We've all been there. Not that that's of any consolation!
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 6 жыл бұрын
I've almost done it before as well, so I should know better. Luckily the lock was to near the caliper to pick up any real speed, but just enough to throw the bike out of balance

As soon as you said disc lock I knew what happened. I've seen it in person a few times. So I don't use one unless it has the strap to go over the bar so it is painfully obvious. Sorry about the new bike slip. I assume brand new tires didn't help either. Glad you are back on the bikes again. Since I last saw one of your videos I have ridden a Ducati Supersport S which I liked quite a lot. Also rode a FZ10 and an R1S. The FZ didn't do anything for me. The R1 was interesting. I could see that bike has potential as the base R1 or the R1M. I would pass on the S though.

Yeah, an old school mistake on my part with the disk lock and I should know better
@raymorris952
@raymorris952 6 жыл бұрын
Disk Lock crash is why I would never use one, seen that to often. MT was a brand new tyre sindrom, seen that one on brand new Bike's on test ride before, if you're in that situation again, put the bike on a stand, start it up, put into 1st gear, and run some medium grade sand paper round the Tyre , new ones have a mould release agent on them. Enjoy your new Ride.
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. A bit of research has revealed that on low to mid range models, Japanese manufacturers use tyres that may be embossed with a certain brand, but the tyres themselves are actually specially made for the factory with a very hard and long wearing compound for some reason or other. I took its wheels to my tyre guy, and I compared them to a proper set of S20s, and they're feel totally different and are tangibly softer. So in a nutshell, I instantly lost faith in the OE tyres and swapped them out for a set of Rosso 3s, and I'm much happier with them. I still don't blame the tyres though as it was just a brain out moment from me leaning the bike to far on a sketchy surface.

Glad to see you back on the road buddy. I was afraid as to what happened to you, thought you totaled the new SP when I saw you riding the old Triumph at first and felt relieved when you changed to the MT half way through! What happened to you happens to most of us sooner or later. Glad it wasn’t such a big deal in both cases. Looking forward to more input from you soon mate. Btw, my SP hasn’t arrived yet. Looks like it will be summer when it gets here. Dealer said end of June :(
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Wow the end of June? That's harsh! However here's a tip for you for when it finally arrives, swap the stock tyres out for some proper ones. The OE Bridgestone S20s are not proper S20s at all and are awful, and I've swapped my for Pirelli Rosso 3s. Much better!
@stephenspiteri_zunkus
@stephenspiteri_zunkus 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip. I’ve seen some videos with reviewers saying just the same thing, one from MCN, who said the the tires, even though they’re branded as Bridgestone S20’s, are of 2012 vintage and significantly different from the same S20’s you buy off the shelf! The same dealer I’m buying the SP from is also an agent for Pirelli so I should get a good deal on a replacement pair. 👍

Maybe it's in another vid, but first off congraduations of the gorgeous bike. just curious. saw your ride on the mt 10 so was a little surprised to see you on the 09. why the 09 instead of the 10?
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 6 жыл бұрын
jupiter22177 In a nutshell, The 09 is just as much, if not more fun than the 10 but is bucket loads cheaper to run. The fuel milage on the 10 is terrible and the insurance for me is half on the 09 👍
@jupiter22177
@jupiter22177 6 жыл бұрын
That's amazing. i'm in the market now and some of the insurance costs are just crazy. For a kaw 14r or H2 Progressive wanted $573 a MONTH, for either, $500 deductible. Foremost wanted $250 for the 14r and $392 for the H2...for the SuperDuke 1290r $94 a month. Right now I'm looking to buy the Duke, which I do love, but have read KTM is making some changes to the chassis and motor for 2019 so I'm standing here with itchy feet waiting for the 2019 to see what they actually do.
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 6 жыл бұрын
wow, I pay less than $500 a year for 2 bikes, guess im not so badly off. The 2018 Superduke is reportedly to be the best ever. If you always wait for the next model you'll always be waiting, so at some point you have go take the plunge and buy one
@jupiter22177
@jupiter22177 6 жыл бұрын
yes, i hear you on that. sometimes in buying mode we think we have to have the "best", but there never is a best is there, really? 500 for 2 bikes?! fricken amazing. i had a couple claims with my car, one in my driveway in a new house pulling out of the drive and the other forgetting to put the parking brake on like a fricken moron when i left the car in neutral in a parking lot, drifted across that bumped a truck, minor damage, but a claim none the less. that appears to have screwed me bit.

You might have to look at changing the channel name now, goodbye veefour and hello twotriples perhaps! Great bikes, I traded my 2011 Speed Triple in for a 2017 MT09 last year and find it a lot roomier for my 6ft frame. I did go for the comfort seat though which adds nearly an inch to the height, and stops me sliding forward,

Nice bike! I own a Street Triple RS at the moment and I am curious to try the MT09. I am not so tall (180cm) but my legs are really too bent on the Street so I am gonna try other bikes this year...
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 6 жыл бұрын
The 09 isn't a big bike either, and I'm flat footed with bent knees on it so probably not much difference. Besides, the RS is a divine machine and I was so so close to buying one instead of this one
@mathieudupuis6133
@mathieudupuis6133 6 жыл бұрын
VeeFour ok thank you for your answer. So if you want more leg room, you should go for the MT10. I am tempted to try the 09& 10 and I will see which is the most suitable for me. Then maybe I will keep my Street RS. 😎

The SP must feel like a toy compared to that big triumph explorer, a friend did the same thing, dropped his bike in a doctors car park due to his disc lock, the doctor and some patients came out to help, he pulled his visor down to hide his embarrassment.

nice bike it looks better when you look at it in the show room you will love the engine very lucky no damage, i bought a tiger 8oo xcx and bent the sump gaurd on the third ride on the main road, mt has got a better engine than the tiger triple sound so good.
@VeeFour

As I'll point out on my next video, there's no incorrect choice between the Yamaha and the Triumph, as both are amazing bikes and it's just down to which flavour of amazing you personally like. I love the Tiger 800 personally and almost almost bought one but opted for the 1200.
@adriantompson

tigers brill such a good bike ,totally different to mt10 that why i got one,you can do 60 70mph all day long and dont have to go faster if you dont want to, as my 10 is more at home at faster speeds, and you can go off road with tiger what more do you need.

Kin ell Dave , how unlucky can a guy be ? 2 dropped bikes in such a short space of time, really glad you’re ok and seemingly both bikes fairly well unscathed. Hope the old proverb of “things tend to go in threes “ doesn’t plague you . If it does I’ve got my fingers crossed that it happens on the mountain bike and nothing else .... ride em safe mate and watch those new tyres , especially on cold mornings. Cheers for now , C.

Thanks matey. The Yamaha OE tyres are terrible and apparently poor tyres on Japanese bikes is an actual thing. So I've swapped the so called Battlax S20's for a pair of Rosso 3s and I'm much happier with them. I lost all faith in the stock tyres.
