Im with you all the way.......if the price gap was 8 to 10 k from 150 to 250 then its hands down stay with a half ton , but if for the same money i can buy 900 ft lbs of torque and 2 times as much towing, i dont understand FORDS logic

no i think the decision to only sell it in a lariat and up was a bad one, one that will kill the option the guys this applies to are priced out and the guys who have the money can buy something better i was just on fords page i can get a decked out 6.7 F350 crew cab 8ft long box F4X in an LX trim for 55k and i would have 10 times the truck for 5,000 less to make the 3.0 sell well they need to sell it publicly in the XL and in the 8 ft long box and get the price down into the 30k range like 30k-40k tops the way the price is now what's the point of buying an F150 when for the same price you van have an f250

I really respect you guys being honest about the new Ford diesel. I’ve been giving it a lot of thought myself - I can think of two use-case scenarios where it makes sense. 1. In the Limited model - with 22” wheels you are already reducing your towing capacity from 13,500lbs to 11,200lbs which is more in-line with the capability of the engine. You are probably using it as a city truck, so fuel economy is most important. 2. Industry professionals - while the gas engine alternatives have more power, they drink fuel under load, so if you carry a load or tow a trailer the majority of the time, you will likely see a return on investment in fuel economy.

I had both 3.5L eco and the 3.0L powerstroke. The powerstroke is towing our 7k camper much better in the mountains than the EcoBoost and getting just about double the towing fuel mileage. On paper maybe the Eco looks good in reality the powerstroke wins hands down when towing.

While I've never had an eco boost I do have a 04 navigator and 03 suburban. The difference towing isn't even close. I was planning on buying a platinum but Ford doesn't want my money.

Miko Catan haha the next one up is always not much more. But I think if I were after an F150, I would get one of the two EcoBoosts. The diesel really doesn’t make much sense. But then F250s make very little sense. F350s are only $500-1000 more without any drawbacks.

I was waiting for it too way back and understand where you're coming from. I ask though, "Have you driven and rode around in an F250 (Super Duty in general)?" I have one. I have also driven a lot of F150s. There is a big ride quality difference between the two. The F150 is closer to a car and the F250 rides like a carriage. Turning radius is tighter on an F150. Fuel economy is better on an F150. Maintenance is most likely less on an F150 (wait until a Super Duty part breaks... they are expensive and heavy). Pretty much if you're using this in a city, you want an F150 (I have parallel parked my 250 many times and it's not what I call enjoyable). I would get the F150 if I didn't need to tow/pull heavy loads. If you're looking for a highway star for light towing (under 10,000 lbs), the F150 is the truck. If you don't need to tow and just need something to haul things, get one of the gasser options.

I think Ford really messed up not offering the diesel in the XL and XLT trim. I think it would have stimulated more sales.

Exactly. Can anyone explain to me why the fuck manufacturers keep doing this? VW did the same thing. You couldnt get a base model car with the turbo diesel four. Put all this work and developement into the vehicle, and then ensure it doesnt sell.

The problem with diesel sales in America is a catch-22. The sales are low because the price of most diesels is high, either because they're locked in high trim levels, or because the diesel is locked behind a very expensive "upgrade" option. So they don't want to risk losing money by putting the diesel in the low trims or making them cheaper because they're such low volume sales...BUT, if the diesels were put in the cheaper trims/made cheaper to option, more people would buy them. Basically, until somebody takes the risk and just puts a diesel in the entry level trims of an affordable vehicle that isn't a 3/4 ton pickup or bigger, we won't see diesels be viable in the market.

Definitely would have taken the 3.0L turbo diesel over the 3.5 V6. Still, went with the 5.0L in the end and I'm very satisfied.

I think 300 hp. and 500 ft.lbs of torque would have made more sense..something to compete with the EcoBoost with better fuel economy.

They added the diesel to meet cafe standards and co2 emissions! Come on get some education and look at the big picture! Ford knows adding the extremely expensive diesel is stupid.

I think your analysis is spot on. There’s tons of people who would love to have a diesel half ton. But not at the cost of a 3/4 ton. If they offered these in the 40-50k range it would probably do well.

It makes sense if you're a high miler. I see this engine being best suited for job site managers that are running around to multiple sites a day and hooking up to a trailer weighing in at a max of 7k any heavier the 250 6.7 is the way to go. The 3.5 eb is awesome ive had one but once you hook a trailer to it your mpgs get into single digits quickly i doubt this little diesel will be impacted that bad if you stay in the 5-7k range

This. The new Ranger is a bloated midsize truck. It would be a winning combination. That is why it will never happen. The oil companies don't want diesels running around using less fuel.

Definitely think it's unnecessary for the price to performance. I think Ford should move the other direction if they want to make new options. EcoBoost the V8.

I ordered and received an F350 loaded lariat diesel, superbcab 6.5 bed single rear wheel w/ 6.7 that stickered at 67,000. Negotiated to 62,000 with tax, extended warranty and disability insurance. Had it 16 months, truck has been perfect.

My 2.7 Ecoboost 4x4 supercrew ran very close to those mpg numbers given for the 4x4 model and regular gas is a lot cheaper than diesel fuel in Canada.

I have owned both the 3.5 ltr ecoboost and currently own a 2018 3.0 Powerstroke, and hands down the 3.0 diesel is a better towning platform. I tow 7000lbs of travel trailer cross country and can boast 16 to 18 miles per gallon towing depending on terrain. Wile pulling a load my 2016 3.5 eco it would always spin tires from dead start and get 11 miles per gallon towing. I have racked up 30 mpg with no load on the highway with the diesel and mine is a 4x4. Very user friendly to drive as a day to day vehicle.

new models always have horror stories. I take the internet with a grain of salt since you will only hear about problems instead of people praising them. I personally think user abuse is the problem with the engine rather than the engine itself. Diesels like to run hard and not used as a grocery getter. Until my warranty is up I really dont give a shit as long as they cover it.

Bought one last week. Lariat with the 501a package. Couldn't be happier. I Lemon Lawed my 2017 King Ranch with the 5.0 and decided to go with the Powerstroke. I'll be doing light towing and it's my daily driver. So far I'm averaging 21.5 mpg and I live in a hilly area.

Scott Dudash I lemon lawed my 2018 f150 3.5 CC 4x4 and went with a 2019 f250 CC Lariat diesel last month. I had a 225 mile trip today and averaged 19.2 when hand calculated. In my eco boost 3.5, I never got much over 19 but most of the time it was really more like 16.3. I couldn’t be happier with my big diesel...very impressive power and mpgs! And woohoo no Stop/Start engine! Lol

@@klfer All they look at as the monthly payment, even if it is for 120 months to get the payment down. If people had to pay cash for their vehicles the amount of new vehicles on the road (and high trim level vehicles) would be greatly reduced.

Great video I own since new a 2002 F150 XLT 5.4 Triton 2 valve 4x4 with 4 speed auto 135,000 miles with 3.55 tow package and happy that I get 13 mpg.

@@Bartonovich52 costs you 7.7 cents per mile in the diesel at 25 mpg. Costs you 7.1 cents a mile in the gas if gas is 2.99 and diesel is 3.29. You want to cry abkut half a cent a mile go ahead. The difference when towing helps the diesels case more. Keep your gasser since you aren't doing much work with your truck. Those of us that do will choose the diesel.

Delete the DPF ,etc, with the right programmer and get ~ 20% better fuel economy and better torque/HP numbers (more towing)! And with Diesel, you can make your your own Bio-fuel. Can't do either of those with a gas burner. Still, they should have made this engine's displacement a tad larger, say ~4.0L or so.

I would love a half ton diesel F150, however I will not spend the money for a lariat spec and greater for an engine option. It annoys me that Ford is only selling XL and XLT packages to fleet consumers. Ford is missing out on sales.

It can make sense in a few ways, looking at the Dyno numbers you can see that it actually has more horsepower down low so while driving normal, it may actually be more powerful that the other engines. Another factor for the towing is that even thoguh it can perhaps tow a bit less weight than some of the other engines, it will tow with MUCH more fuel efficiency. Same as with the supeeduty trucks. Of you tow a lot the fuel economy might be vastly different

I agree with you its as dumb as the mask mandates breathing in you own exhaust is stupid and damages more than benefits. I own one and changed my oil started it and checked the oil minuets later and oil looked like it had 20k miles on it. Who can afford to change out this motor at 100k miles not me. Hydrogen adder instead of egr and def way cleaner and would get 500k miles on this engine. But manufactures don’t want there trucks to last that long. That’s some bs if you ask me.

The diesel makes sense for someone that tows toys on the weekends and daily’s it on the weekdays. I haven’t seen reports on the towing mpg, but I’m guessing it’ll be better than the other engine options. The mpg it gets is why I’d buy the diesel.

waay off on mpgs. my 4x4 2108 3.0 powerstroke is averaging 31 highway. between 24-27 city. This truck has been an absolute dream. And that's coming from a V8 fan with a 5.0 F-150 with Bora atak exhaust. Yes I missed the sound and driving dynamics but MPg's and the quiet ride have one me over.

It makes sense for people who don't tow all the time yet may be one that travels over the road for work or whatever. If one is going to be putting tons of highway miles and the only thing that gets the most wear on the truck is the drivers seat, it makes sense. Because the diesel will hold its value better regardless of higher mileage.

Bring back the 7.3 power stroke until then I’m sticking with my 250 7.3 . When you can build a new diesel that will last 500,000 miles with only oil and filter changes let me know .

Your 7.3 will not go 500K miles, and if it did the rest of the truck will be worn out at 200K miles so take your BS somewhere else.

The rest of the truck has already been replaced when needed all suspension and moving part underneath is new also keep gearbox oil changed and it has a built 4r100 in it good for 1200 lb of torque. Take care of your shit and it will last, and still cheaper than a new one. And more dependable cause I know it’s not gonna break .

Nathan Booker it’s sad these clowns commenting and the rest of society have forgotten how to take care of their vehicles. My dad had the 5.4 Tritons in two vans that both went 20 years in Mn and over 300k. I’m currently buying his 01 F150 with 270k miles. That’s the 5.4 gas. Vehicle looks new. It is way cheeper to maintain and replace parts then to buy new. Keep taking care of your truck!

I’m gonna guess that when you’re towing with the 3.5 eco boost you’ll be spinning the turbos and the mileage will really suck. But, with the diesel, not so much. So that could be a real advantage with the diesel. It’d be interesting to do a mileage test under load.

Jonathan Halsey The Ike gauntlet guys did the comparison and it was only like 2.2 mpg better but was slower and has no engine brake. So, yes, it’s better mpgs but it’s not really made for pulling. And neither is the 3.5EB. I know from experience! I had a 2018 3.5EB... it was quick when empty but as soon as you put over 2,000 lbs it’s sluggish, mpgs Plummet (only avg 16.2 unloaded) and you could tell it was laboring. If you pull anything, and I mean anything - there’s only one choice and that’s f250 6.7 diesel. Hands down a superior product!

Ah Yes.....I have owned Ford pickups since the 1970s, and I currently drive a 2016 Ford F-150 XLT 4X4 with a 3.5 Ecoboost. But I sure remember my 1978 Ford pickup with the inline 6 - 300 cubic inch engine mated with a manual overdrive transmission. That was a great work truck. Engine ran forever and manual shifting was a delight. Out with the old and in with the new is not necessarily better. Have to admit however...I do like my 2016 F-150 I drive every day with the creature comforts.

True, they should bring that back. inline 6 was a beast. Those things will run forever. We bought a used 1996 F-250 for my son and the engine is running strong and I'm sure it will outlast the rest of the truck

I think its a good idea, and its the first year ford released it so of course it’ll get improved over the next couple years. But they definitely need to lower the price a little bit and give it a little more hp(300-350hp would be nice)

For me to buy a diesel truck wouldn’t make sense. I use my 2015 F-150 3.5L EB for trips to Home Depot, pull a 8ft trailer from time to time and some trails here and there, with that being said the new 3.0L power stroke Diesel engine would be useless for me. But I’m sure it’s the perfect fit for some of the truck guys out here.

I bought a new 2018 4x4 screw Lariat in October 2018. I looked at the diesel, but since the 3.5l ecoboost exists, I didn't see the reason to spend the extra money. I bought the lariat because I wanted it. I bought the 3.5l and 4x4 because I needed it.

i have the 2018 5.0 and love it but mainly do city driving and get about 14-15MPG with a combined about 16-17 but some highway runs im getting anywhere between 21-23 MPG if my foot is playing nice with the other drivers and not going over 65mph

My 2014 5.0 averages only 15.4 mpg. But.... my foot got a little heavier once I installed a Roush Cat Back Exhaust system 😈😈

2012 5.0 XL 4x4 with HD payload, 3.73 limited slip, e rated tires, reg cab, long bed, 105k miles and get 18-20 combined @ 6000ft elevation driving hilly to mountainous terrain. When the ecoboost or diesel guys are getting 50% higher mpg, I'd consider it, but right now they struggle to break even.

I would think the diesel is the clear winner in the ‘not catching fire and burning to the ground’ category, over the eco boost. So many oilfield operators have had fires with eco boost trucks, they’re no longer used in the Alberta oil patch

I just bought the V8 F-150 (2018) and traded in a 2016 F250 6.7L...worlds apart in power...honestly, for my driving (kids to school, and commuting to work)...too much truck...I was attracted to the motor....just not attracted to the maintenance on that 6.7...waaay too expensive to replace a leaking battery and wire harness (1K) not covered under warranty either...jumped into a smooth, car like driving F150 and am happy...doesn't pass cars on the highway like my diesel did, but will pass cars easily...just won't put you back in your seat....love the 5.0L gasser...

I'll stick with 6.2L in my FX4 2013 Avg 16.5 mpg and almost 19 when cruising , with 411 hp and 434 lbs, not worried about fuel mileage it's a truck not a escort lol

I'm retired, own a camper (7000 GVW) and tow on occasion. In addition to our family sedan, we owned a Chevy duramax 3500 crew cab with a 6.5 ft bed. That's a big truck. One needs to live with it for a year to truly appreciate how big it is. That said, we wanted to get down to one vehicle - one that my wife could drive daily, comfortably. The one ton truck was just too big, so we bought a f150 with the 3.5 ecoboost. Yes, towing capacity is less than the Chevy and payload capacity much more so. Life can be a compromise, and we'll have to keep track of our payload certainly while towing, but the f150 makes perfect sense in this roll. If they got more power and torque out of their diesel, I would have considered it. Maybe the next version will provide it.

I drove one and wanted to buy it but realized all the points you have mentioned even before watching this video and wound up buying a 3.5L ecoboost. And I love it. The best thing about the new powerstroke f150 to me is how refined and quiet it is. But if you are trying to impress your f250 diesel friends, think again because you may get laughed out of the parking lot. I really wanted to like this truck. It is nice. But not enough to pull the trigger on one.

Fuel Economy is the only reason to even think about this truck. Most likely they added it to the "fleet" to improve the over all fleet MPG to meet government standards.

I think what some people aren't considering is the MPG while towing. The diesel is going to be much better verses gas engines. I think the target for this engine would be for buyers who tow a couple of times a month who also don't want a larger truck for commuting.

I have this truck. At 80,000 and 4.5 years into it the engine seized without warning. Fluids were good. Ford is covering the new engine and all labor involved. I can’t say enough about the ford dealer here. It Always seems they are looking out for me.

As was touched upon by another poster. This Truck/engine combo would fall very nicely into the sweet spot of Travel trailer folks looking for the ability to tow moderate loads and get the fuel economy to not kill them making longer trips. We have a 2005 EB Expedition and a 6000lb TT. We average 8mpg when towing on runs to Florida and Michigan and 14mpg or so unhitched. When staring down the barrel of an $80k replacement for a new Expy the Diesel F150 is a great alternative to consider. Also.. You can't fall for the hype surrounding max towing numbers. The simple fact of the matter is that once you get anywhere near 9-10k lbs for a 1/2 ton chassis.. You're really at the max for the weight of the tow vehicle and should be stepping up to a 250 just for stability and to keep from getting pushed around. Yes. The truck and chassis are capable of 10k+.. But if you try to tow that much weight with a 1/2 ton truck, through even rolling hills with a bit of wind and traffic it quickly devolves into an unpleasant and potentially white knuckled experience. ESPECIALLY when towing a high profiled travel trailer. So for that market, the 27ft and under Travel trailer towers, the 3.0 diesel is a great option to have IMO.

Yeah. Due to the high price tag, the ecoboost & the F250, Ford messed up with the 3.0L diesel option. I'd definitely take a F250 over a F150 if I were looking for a the entry level diesel hauler. Ford needed to offer the diesel option for XL or XLT at no more than an Eco-boot gaser. Ford messed up.

My 19` 6.7 driven nicely around town doesn't even get 16mpg, probably closer to 15 (I'm under 3K on it though). This 3.0 truck is out there for the person who wants to daily a pickup and get decent fuel mileage who also wants to be able to tow more than the average person, but not enough to justify super duty territory. It is an interesting segment, I wonder how much of a MPG boost a stripped down XL truck would see....

Yes it’s needed. This engine gets nearly three times the MPG of the 6.7. Also put a load on any of the eco boost engines and the mpg tanks. Will also allow the camper guys to run diesel appliances. Lots of good reasons. Now Ford, offer it in the XL for the working man.

They should have done a small v8 diesel kinda like Cummins like a 4.4 or a 4.8. But I think the main reason is all about meeting the mpg guidelines.

I'm thinking about getting rid of my Toyota tundra and repreplacing it with the new Ford diesel. I drive a lot of miles. On average 45,000-50,000 a year. I also tow three snowmobiles behind it during the winter. So thinking that the greater mpg, the 100k mile warranty over the 60k warranty on the EcoBoost, the towing capabilities, the possible better trade in value, and hopeful longevity of the proven motor would be better for my driving style over the EcoBoost. Thoughts?

Ford is drunk off of high trim level profits. An XL or even an XLT would make the little diesel much more attractive to fleet and business use because they mostly buy XLs or maybe XLTs. Ford obviously does not care about that market. Spending what Ford wants for a high trim level diesel 150 that barely does a 10 second 0-60 makes no sense. Buy an F-250 6.7l or a much cheaper lower trim level gas half ton.

I know they offer an XLT through the commercial/fleet program. Most want XLs and many buy off the lot in 1s or 2s. Especially smaller businesses. A commercial dealer may stock one, if one a close enough. Otherwise they have to ordered through a dealer. Why bother with the Ford when you can get a RAM tradesman from any dealer even off the lot for cheaper than the Ford. I like Fords better than RAMs but most businesses go by price over brand loyality.

Strictly economics. As of 12/1/2018 in SW Michigan, 87 Octane gas was $2.16 per gallon vs $3.35 per gallon for diesel. $1.19 per gallon difference. Plus DEF. Plus cost of diesel engine option over gas engine option. Plus higher maintenance cost on the diesel (oil change cost, etc.). What is there to gain with the diesel? Try to convince a typical semi-rural, urban or suburbanite to buy the diesel. If they are "knowledgeable", I am sure they would opt for the 2.7 EB, the 3.5 EB or the 5.0 V8. After all. Most of the people/families stated are buying the F-150s for family use. No market advantage. I do not believe the resale on the 3.0 PS Diesel in an F-150 will hold nearly as high as the gas powered F-150s. Time will tell but mark my word. The resale value on the 3.0 PS Diesel F-150 will plummet.

I always think of diesel trucks as high mileage vehicles. This might be a good investment if it becomes the 7.3 of its weight class as far as longevity is concerned. Only time will tell, but I'm glad that we finally have a diesel option in a smaller package like the rest of the world has had for the past 50 years!!!

I will say this in regards to “performance” I have a 3.5 ecoboost yes it’s night and day FASTER than a 5.0 and gets better mpg but I have 50k miles on mine and am having issues with mine. I knew going in turbos plus gas engines aren’t a recipe for longevity but the test drive of a 5.0 back to back with the ecoboost plus the mpg gain got the best of me. Also I towed a 3000lb enclosed trailer cross country and got 8mpg... Same trailer I towed with a 2014 grand Cherokee with a comparable 3.0 diesel got 14-15 towing. So if you tow light loads this truck IS a clear cut winner vs the ecoboost . If you want to race people at stop lights on your way to your desk job or dropping the kids off at soccer practice then get the ecoboost. Reliability wise the 5.0 is probably the best option (less moving parts and they’ve been making it forever) Also worth noting everyone complains about the upfront costs of the diesel but look at used diesels vs gas with the same mileage you get a lot of that back on resale. Depends on what you use it for I guess but my experience owning a ecoboost hasn’t been a good one and I don’t feel like it’s a 250k mike truck like the old v8’s . Remember the old adage “the brightest flame burns out twice as fast”

I agree 100%. I, also have an EcoBoost and it's powerful but it's reliability worries me and it's thirsty. Ford should stroke the 5.0 to a 5.4 for added low end torque.

In this application, I think the 3L Diesel isn’t needed I the F150. The only area where the Diesel shines is in fuel mileage. The 3.5 Eco has the Diesel beat in all other areas.

Where I live in Canada the diesel price is 35 cents more per liter than gas, why is anyone buying a diesel? The eco boost is a way better option here for economy. If you want to tow get a 250 /350 A half ton truck is not a truck for towing anyway, too much to handle on the brakes and suspension. I am a f150 owner and Ford guy but I would not buy this or any diesel in a half ton. Its unsafe for towing and hauling big trailers why would anyone buy it for that reason when you can get a 3/4 for the same price.

All you complaining about it, I have a range rover sport(5600) with this engine and just towed a 24 albemarle(8000lbs on trailer) from mt hood oregon to Sarasota FL and got 16mpg hand calculated. This engine is a bad sob and dynos can't do it justice. I also own a 15 ecodiesel that made the same trip with gross 13k with a 16 enclosed(my buddy driving) 13mpg, on the passes though or accelerating on to highways the powerstroke absolutely destroyed the ecodiesel. Its an impressive package and honestly I wish I could get it in a superduty like they have overseas.

Justin Bechtel Put a 2.0 VW common rail tdi in it. That swap is popular for the JK Jeep Wrangler, and it will make over 300 ft/lb of torque with a tune.

I had a 3.0 in my ram 1500 and loved it. Put 55k on it. The fuel economy matters over the long term. I was averaging 22-23 with it. Had a hemi prior and averaged 16-17. That adds up. Fast. Was the hemi more fun. Yes. But totally impractical for my purpose. I’m a contractor so the fuel economy won out. Also when I traded I got top dollar. I had to upgrade to a 2500 for bigger payload. Long story. That said I’m like the ram 1500 the F1 50 is a much smaller truck physically. At this point I don’t really see a reason why there is a V-8 in the truck when the eco-boost is faster it gets better fuel economy as far as upgrading to the F2 50 nobody is thinking about the sheer size of the F2 50 compared to the F1 50. Many people can’t even fit one in the garage. Let alone parking the damn thing. All of those things seem like they don’t mean anything until you own a really large truck. I had a Chevy 2500 for very brief. About three months and I hated it. I couldn’t see out of it, parking it was a complete bitch. The point of my post is people that buy a truck or performance reasons makes no sense, buy a Mustang. People should be looking for efficiency in their truck. Vehicle over 6000 pounds never going to be fast. And spending boatloads of money to do it you could just have a fun weekend car. Anyway back to the point, I do believe that this engine is necessary and I believe others in the truck are not. If you want diesel in a smaller package this is a great option. Not to mention they also are going to last twice as long if not more than a gas engine. That matched up with the fuel economy, I don’t even see how this is a question. Unless you’ve never owned a diesel which is probably what most of these comments are coming from. “My truck should faaaaast”. Um no. Your truck should do work. Especially when any Mazda Miata can our perform you. You want performance, get a go cart. You want something to be reliable get, good feel economy while you are working and trying to make a buck, get a diesel truck.

You mention the 2.7 not getting close to the advertised fuel mileage, but I have had two of the 2.7s and they did get excellent mileage. my 2016 got over 30 highway and I got 23 on average. My 2nd 2.7 has the .355 rear and I am right on 20 MPG. Funny thing is I have the driving mode select and I get the best fuel mileage in the snow/rain mode. The performance in that mode is great.

Yes, the 3.5 will tow more, but nowhere close to the same fuel economy. And the 250 won't fit in some places the 150 will. I think Ford realizes that the 3.0 isn't going to be a big seller, but at the same time they saw the sales figures on the Ram 3.0 and couldn't ignore them. Now, if only they'd consider knocking the price down a little, say perhaps to the same cost as the 3.5?

You really missed the actual point of this engine. Its for lighter towing with way bettee mileage versus gas when towing. Thats its niche.

@@AmericanTrucksRam lets say gas is 2.99 a gallon and the truck has a 25 gallon tank. Thats 74 and some change to fill up. Lets say diesel is 3.29 thats 82 and some change to fill up. So youre saying that at 4 mpg better its not worth the extra 8 to go 100 miles further PER EVERY TANK OF FUEL? thats huge to me. If you tow regularly thats a huge savings. Now you're definitely right if you tow a couple times a year this isnt super beneficial for you.

I completely agree with you. My favorite vehicles have been half ton diesels. Yes for serious towing the bigger are better but having a heavy truck for light towing doesn't interest me and hey maybe I'm just a diesel fan so I choose it over the many gas options even though they're not bad.

Lighter towing would be just fine in a f250 diesel as well. And you’d have a ton more power and brakes available (and exhaust brake) as well as better resale! My ‘19 f250 diesel averages 16 with lots of in town and you can get 19-20 on highway if you don’t tramp it. As far as DEF, I’ve gone 2500 miles and still have 3/4 tank left. So that is a non-cost really. The 150 diesel just doesn’t make any good sense, but it doesn’t have to either. If someone wants it just to have a nicer riding diesel, then so be it.

I own the 2018 king ranch 3.0 Power stroke diesel F150 and the only thing good about it is the mpg if I could do it again I would have got the f250 instead.for the money spent I got all the upkeep cost of a Diesel with out the power bad trade off .
