Except what's funny is that when lighter loads were used the GM smoked the other two. Ram and Ford just arbitrarily make up a big tow number. I bet GM would do better than both the Ford and Ram with 30k behind it.

Whit Kern Funny thing is the GM’s are not rated as high as the Ford and Ram for weight.. it’s not a made up number that number has to be accurate, it is used for licensing/permits as well as they are mostly used commercially.

@MXvsATV144
@MXvsATV144 5 жыл бұрын
that's a common misconception because you can tune either of those with full emissions intact and get 500hp no problem. Swap the turbos out or add a turbo and guys are getting over 600hp on the Ram. Emissions only hurts fuel economy in the Ford and Chevy. RAM pretty much stays the same when deleted.

Eddeville303 if you remove some of those luxury features and think of this as a commercial vehicle test, ram won with slightly better mpg and the air bag suspension to level out the back. If your reason to purchase one of these and your choice is 100% work related then Yeah the ram. But if those luxury features are important, the Ford. I love a good competition. However if you need to haul 30klb daily I wonder if a class 4 truck would be better. *shrugs*

I’m not a “Ford/Chevy/Ram” guy so when I was looking for a new Diesel truck I compared all three meticulously and the Ford won out overall. Multiple test drives of all three and looking over the options, power, and accessories landed me on the Ford. Chevy wasn’t even in the running but Ram gave the Ford a good run for its money. Just had to go with what I felt was the better truck. And after owning the Ford F-250 for just a few months and pulling trailers constantly....I am NOT disappointed. Incredible truck.

I had a 1994 Ford F-350 Dually with the new power stroke diesel. I was a flooring contractor at the time. I had a 36' flat bed goose neck trailer. Doing schools at the time. Two trucks showed up with two schools of flooring. Dropped them both at the one school. Not only was my truck a diesel but also had a 2000k lbs western hauler bed on it and it was a standard transmission. We loaded that second truck on my flat bed at a total gross of 38,900 lbs. Let out the clutch and she took off. Never even knew it was back there till I tried to stop. I pulled over 20k all the time at 75-80 mph down I20. She never bucked at all. Ford back then was awesome

Hey fellas, I love these head to head tests y'all do. Always answer 90% of my questions, at least. Just a couple points I found annoying and thought I'd mention. 1 - DEF does not give you power, guys. It doesn't even go through the engine. These trucks use what's called Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to control NOx emissions. This is achieved by spraying DEF in the exhaust where it will react in the catalyst. 2 - The exhaust brakes on these trucks are one and the same with the turbo. Nowadays, they all use Variable Geometry Turbos. To achieve braking, they close the vanes which also increases exhaust volume as it spools up the turbo. Last, if I buy a RAM, I'll be looking into the Pacbrake Load Leash. Pretty cool stuff. Probably would decend super Ike with no brakes because it changes the valve timing to maximize the effect of the exhaust brake.

@alexsmba
@alexsmba 6 жыл бұрын
js9234 it doesn’t matter, they don’t perform anywhere near as well as the automatics. Diesels do really well with automatics. If you are driving it empty, you will use 2nd to get going, then 4 slow long shifts to get to 6th (compared to a car) and you will be in 6th by 35mph (unlike a car). Anything over that, and definitely over 40mph, there are no more gear shifts. Then you’re doing higher rpm on the highway, when you wish the rpms would drop like the automatic. So it’s way slower accelerating. Not as nice on the highway, and you don’t really get the opportunity to enjoy shifting like you do with a sports car, through the corners because you won’t be downshifting on those roads.

Angel Hernandez def fluid is not used for the regeneration process. Def is used only to break down NOX into nitrogen and oxygen in the SCR. Previous trucks without def/scr but had dpfs regenerated. Regeneration is done with excesse fuel injected directly into the exhaust to burn out the resedue in the soot-cooker (DPF) filter.

I have a 2017 F350 dually extended cab 6.7 4.10 rear end XLT 4x4. It has 40,000 miles, tows a 6000lb sliding axle dual axle trailer, with 8,000-14,000lbs of load weight daily 5 days a week. No issues yet, tows this weight with ease all over New England roads. Very impressed with the towing capabilities and thus far reliability if this truck. I do agree everyone of these type of trucks should have air ride to level out the truck and trailer. Perhaps once these rear shocks wear out I'll convert over to an aftermarket air ride system.

All 3 frames are made out of super thin shit steel that collapses/rusts away once you put it under pressure. Whoopie. My truck can tow 30k pounds. Guess what my truck can do! Last longer than a year towing its max load.

Theleglessdemon there probably just about as equal. I got a 97 7.3 powerstroke with 4:10s and a 5 speed and my brother has an 02 5.9 Cummins with 4:10s and a 6 speed and I’d say they pull really close to equal on all the hills around where I live. His might out pull mine a bit but it is 5yrs newer too with around 60k less miles than mine. We’re running close to 20k loaded with gravel in a dump trailer which is what the trucks are rated for. Just my two cents. Would be cool if they did a video on it too tho I agree with you

I'll be honest! The new Ford Super duty looks nice! I saw a Platinum F450 at my local lot, and it was beautiful! Platinum white, with a brown/reddish interior! However...if a truck can't be reliable, then what's the point?!? The company I work for , had a fleet of 20 Ford F550's. They lasted less than 2 years. Turbo issues and engine issues. They all got switched out for Ram 5500's. No issues after 3 years.

Bought a 18 ram 3500, coming from the legendary 7.3. I've always driven Ford's. 7 main bearings on the Cummins vs 5 on the powerstroke. One main bearing sits between each connecting rod. Tons of grunts, with fewer moving parts. I drive the Cummins. It's going to outlast the stroker hands down. Look under the hood. The Ford looks like a rat's nest. The Cummins is clean and easy to work on without pulling the cab. That's the seller for me.

Good choice. When I parted ways with my 7.3, I went to Dodge. So many times over the years, I have thought about how much of a disaster it would have been if I had gotten into the 6.0 and 6.4 Powerjokes. But that Navistar 7.3 was a great mill, that's for sure. My only gripe back than, was the fact that I hated the soft Ford chassis. Back then I wished I could have had a 7.3 in a GMC. But for me, it's Ram going forward.

I have the same Ford F350 as used in this video but Black. I also have the 4;10 gear option. Im curious why they didn't use the Select shift feature and go manual. Its a world of difference. Could have pulled the hill in a lower gear. If the editing was correct the truck was only pulling 2000@10Lbs of boost. That's typical of leaving a stop light unloaded. The truck should have been tacking a good 3500 RPM @ 30Lbs boost. No doubt select shift would have gave a much faster time. Im also curious if the exhaust brake was just on or in auto mode. If in auto mode the truck wont go beyond its set speed. It will tach to 4 grand if it has to so the truck will maintain speed. In the video this truck went from 36 to 41 I think which tells me it wasn't in auto mode. Its reverse cruise control. I drive this truck every single day and pulled heavy equipment with it. The gauge readings weren't true to what I see everyday.

I'm not sure what the hell you're talking about. They stated that they were wide open. There was no lugging the motor or turning the fan on. The fan comes on when the computer that Ford programmed tells it to. As for lugging it, they were wide open and again the computer that Ford programmed choses the gear and lockup settings. The Ford should have done better and it also isn't because it's a V8. The I6 has a slight advantage with heat, but that is really about it. Under normal towing that isn't a huge grade and for that amount of time the Ford would likely do better, but it didn't.

Both great trucks I own a 2017 f350 with 85000 miles I’ve had 2 issues 1 the aluminum wheels have had to be replaced since they don’t hold air.They leak down 10-15 psi and you have to add air to them,2nd the check engine light came on at 75000 miles which is as a sensor in the def tank which went back out a few days later.Other than that no issues.Tires holding air now.Upgrades s to the truck are s&b cold air intake and 3 afe aluminum covers for motor transmission and rear end.I can attest that the covers work cooling down the temperature’s 10-15 degrees.The oil can get as high as 247 on a hard pull may have to upgrade to a mpd aftermarket oil cooler.Also added SUMO SPRINGS which work great for squat and handling just don’t use the spacers they will fold underneath being to long.They need to take a chunk out of them to fit the shakes better when they come down like the stock bump stocks.

Cummins Power 247 Horsepower doesn’t play as big of a factor as torque does while towing. I’m a Ford fan but that the straight six is best suited for heavy towing. They’re much “torqier” by nature whereas the V8 is made to rev higher which produces more HP.

Great video but 2 points of contention are that on my 2017 f350 the second air brake setting seems to keep my fifth wheel from gaining speed better than the first setting and the sound from my double moonroof is noticeably louder when the fabric is retracted. My buddy has a 2017 ram 3500 and I think the moonroof size comes into play when there is that much glass exposed for sound testing due to the Fords bigger size. Keep up the great work!

RGJ58 you may have something there! However, towing a 15k 5th wheel with my RAM I average 9 to 10 on most trips which for me includes a combination of flat towing and mountains. They got 2-3mpg towing 30k up a killer hill, nothing gets good mileage doing that, but when you average it with real world weights (for most of us anyway) with real world driving they do pretty well; and yes the prices are crazy! Your only hope is to get at least 250,000 miles out of them which should be no problem...

Real world price with an msrp of 80k is about 62k. The only thing when working any of these pickups hard, in the heat, is the rear differential. All these manufacturers have stepped up their power to semi-like levels, but still run 11.8-12" ring gears, and these diffs get HOT! Oil goes into thermal runaway. I have monitored pinion bearing area temps on an 11.8 AAM and saw 300 deg at one point. Black asphalt, hot sun, minimal airflow, and heavy loads.

I think all three brands of hd trucks have there pros and cons. I have been a ford guy all my life but in 2015 I traded my 15 f350 platinum for a gmc Denali 3500 drw. The gmc was definitely a better ride than my 15 f350 and I really have no complaints about the gmc. I kept it 2 years and traded it for a 17 f350 platinum drw. I pull same sundowner toy hauler with it as I did my gmc drw. The trailer is 43’ and weights about 17500 loaded. The gmc did not squat as much as the ford but with that being said the ford sets level with trailer as did the gmc. I guess it comes down to what truck fits you best and what you fill good in. I can say the technology in the ford is way ahead of what the gmc was and it works. My next truck might be a ram 3500. I can say over my years of trading trucks that I got better deal trading my ford to gm and trading my gm to ford there must be some kind of insensitive for changing brands.

Well done video! This is for all the babies that whine about a test not being quite apples to apples. That Ram has an absolutely beautiful interior. Even the gauge cluster is gorgeous.

I grease my ball even when I’m not towing! Ford front ends last way longer than Ram, I’ve owned both. Thx for your vids guys!

Ram has a much better radius arm front suspension now. I'm guessing your Ram was an older truck.

Two great American trucks, but I would still take the Ford F350 over the Ram 3500 HD! If you're going to spend that type of money, I'll go with the more modern truck with the better tech. And I'm sure the Ford F350 will continue to improve as competition stiffens.

Yet you ignore real word experience. How is it more modern when it's interior and ride quality is behind the RAM. These are called modern tech, it seems your definition is limited to gadgets. Oh and those messaging seats with eventually break down. Next we have the Engine and there is no competition there. The Cummins diesel with out last that Ford. Far as I can see they both offer additional advantages in different areas. Oh and then you have to deal with the reliability of the Ford made transmission while the RAM gives you the Japanese AISIN tranny that is tried, tested and true. After all you are only spending $80,000

People liked diesels because of: 1. Power 2. Fuel Efficiency 3. Reliability 4. Longevity They're pretty much all gone now except power. A semi truck can haul more than double what these trucks can and get about the same fuel mileage... there's something not quite adding up here.

Next thing they'll come out with is zip gas. Gas with the same energy density as diesel.

Do you realize how many gears are in a semi's transmission??

Benjamin Stephens, Jr. I think some have 12, 14, and 18, but I’m not sure. But you probably know that already. Obviously the reason the semis get good gas mileage

That’s why I stick with the pre emissions trucks,a lot more reliable. My 02 7.3 F350 gets just as good mileage as our ‘12 does. I’m still getting 18-20mpg even weighing 7,000lbs of solid American steel. May not match the power outputs,but she’ll outlast any new truck with less problems,guarantee it

One thing they didn't even take into account during their scoring is the fact that the Ram is almost $4k cheaper, that's roughly $50-$75 less a month on your truck payment and added together with the better mpg's of the Ram would really be a factor for the guy buying a truck for his business.

my friend's 94 toyota truck was going up i-70 just like you guys, i'll leave it at this-these trucks did much better than his light duty truck with NO load. fastest we could get the truck was 67mph in eisenhower. uphill was 40 mph, foot to the floor

@@MrMsMexican You realize it's possible to build a good pickup that also looks nice. It's called modern engineering. Your logic is flawed that because one company was able to design a more ascetically pleasing truck that it must be less reliable. Like for instance the Ford built tranny and Engine, no Thank you. Had the Ford instead incorporated the better looking more modern interior you wouldn't be complaining or using it as a negative. Reason being, your a Fanboy.

2.7 mpg vs 2.4 mpg is a 12.5% difference in favor of the RAM. Similar results of 10% or greater better fuel efficiency are seen in other TFL tests. I see so many"hot shot" haulers using RAMs I'm betting they know how much the fuel economy means to their bottom line. Fuel efficiency is a big thing to look at when you're buying a towing rig. Diesel trucks are about capability, efficiency and durability There are many other vehicles a person can purchase if you're looking for outright speed. A 8500lb + truck shouldn't be your first choice.
