different grip! stevens (often taught for marimba) does runs with 2 and 3, traditional does runs with 2 and 4, because those are the strongest mallets!

Oh man SCV has, by far, my favourite percussion section. The tone quality and musicality is like no other corps. Next year will be my age out, but I've never marched corps. Might have to go to an audition camp at least.

Let's go vibes, freaking AWESOME job!!! Love the melodies you guys carry! My percussion career (10 total seasons) was ended when I shattered my wrist and suffered nerve damage in my left arm in an accident, but I still absolutely LOVE DCI, WGI, and marching band!

I love this show so, so much. Great job playing! I wish I could join DCI, but I unfortunately don't have time. I do march in WGI, though, and that is super fun! I play synth myself, and would love to see a synth cam of this show, but I'm fairly certain that the synth player didn't film one. But I would be happy to be wrong! lol

Why does SCV use mallets 2 and 4 for runs instead of 2 and 3?
@adventure_hannah3841 Жыл бұрын
The SCV vibraphones are using a technique called "Burton Grip", as opposed to what most people typically learn, which is called "Stevens Grip". Using mallets 2 and 4 in Burton Grip allow for a much more natural movement of the hand, similar to the typical piston stroke in 2-mallet technique. Stevens Grip uses a wrist-rotating motion with mallets 2 and 3 and takes a decent amount of time to clean and perfect. Burton Grip is MUCH more common with jazz vibraphone and concert percussion 🤷🤷
