Great info as always! Can’t wait for some spring soft water!

You and I both. We got another 8 inches of snow here in Manila Friday night. On the Gorge there is still 14 to 16 inches of ice even at Sheep Creek. It has been a long winter but we need the moisture so it will all work out.

@@doafish it's true. when I couldnt take the boat on Deer Creek in September because the water was low, I was more bummed then than I am about a long winter. We'll take all we can get!

I've spent so many years successfully fishing with spoons and spinners, I've never done the tube jigs. I need to expand my skillset and my tackle, especially for those days when the spoons and spinners aren't getting me any traction. Nice video.

Good job on catch and release. Those power bait fish killers drive me crazy.

I am not the best at protecting the fish while I land them but I don't want to see these cutthroats abused in any way. The slot limit is difficult for those who want to keep the fish they catch. And, yes, Power Bait on small treble hooks do caught a lot of damage to the fish. I always tell those that use Power Bait to at least cut the line if the hook isn't in the mouth and is deeper. At least that is a lot better than using a "de-gorging tool." to remove the hook. We all need to be better stewards of this fantastic fishery.

Robbie, Stay tuned. I won't be able to do a fish finder on the deep tube bite at the Berry until summer BUT I will be shooting a couple of videos on Lake Powell or on Sand Hollow in the next month that will show close ups on my finders. Although I won't be fishing for trout, the images (with explanation) should make sense. Thanks for watching.

Do you really need a fish finder for trout? I never needed it .. especially in utah
@doafish5 жыл бұрын
To each his own. I find more and more anglers are learning to use finders for all their fishing ... including trout. If you don't know how deep the fish are, it's pretty tough to catch them. Who would have know that the big cutthroats would be in 70 feet of water in August?

Don , Fun video . What size hooks were you using ?
@doafish5 жыл бұрын
Michael, I use 1/4 ounce Gamakatsu ball heads. They have a 2/0 hook.

Do you have a mono leader or is your line all braid?
@doafish5 жыл бұрын
I generally use Berkley NanoFil in 10-pound test and then transition to 10-pound fluorocarbon (Sunline) using a double "uni-knot" to connect the leader. If not, I use Sunline SX1 braid 12-pound-test to the same 10-pound fluorocarbon. The key is to control the line twist with the small tube tipped with night crawler. That combination has a tendency to twist and since I am constantly watching my finder for more fish, I reel up quickly and drop down quickly which also tends to twist line. The NanoFil and the SX 1 braid doesn't twist very much at all. I hope that helps.

What part of the lake are you fishing? Keep up the videos, well done.

Shawn, I fish anywhere from Chicken Creek to The Narrows and the Soldier Creek side of the lake. The key is finding deep water and major drop offs. There are literally hundreds of spots to fish in the same way we fished. Thanks for your comment.
