Swamp Rat 3 was the early 60ish style of frame that Don Garlits made for Vance Hunt out of the Dallas TX area. It was the first style of frame that I wanted to use as a model for building my own someday before seeing the magazine spread on Karamesines ChiZler 5 built by Tuscon's Rod Stuckey. After that the basic Kent Fuller mid 60s style that Stuckey modeled would have been the way I went . . . had I gone. Just shortly after seeing the Vance Hunt rail up in Amarillo his driver, Ted Arnold might've suffered a heat stroke and never tried to brake or open his chute after a run at the AHRA Nationals at Green Valley Raceway, Dallas/FW area and lost his life in a crash out the back door. That's one of the reasons that I wasn't really interested in driving any car that I might've built . . . had I done so. Don seemed to sell frames in Texas. Bobby Langley's Scorpion 5 was a later model Garlits framed car.

I'm just seconds in the video and whoa! The CJS re-creation is outstanding, the motor alone is outstanding, with input from Jobe himself. Cam ground on the original machine at Engle, like the controversial earlier redeux being goosed by Amos (HB Gold Citation) Satterlee in the video? Thanks again, Bill and crew---Higginson, Prieto, McCarrell and Tom Jobe. Gene Townley has some fascinating history also, a contemporary of some of the biggest names in the sport, including John Mulligan, Gary Cochran, crewed with the Kentucky Moonshiners. Highly recommended, and I'm going to watch that series again.

Joe Moore Go, Joe! Your thoughts on the history of drag racing are held by many and as more young people question how it all evolved, they too will grow to appreciate it as well. Thanks for watching. Bill

It's always good, Bill. An idea. How about a video of comparison of different FEDs. What I mean is, there is a vast difference in some of the cars in terms of distance from rear axle to driver, distance from driver to engine, etc. Would be great to hear and see what the chassis builders were thinking and how things progressed over time. Thanks again, you rock!!!!!
