Wow I know exactly what you’re talking about with the jerking/ hesitation of the transmission. Went to a nearby Toyota dealership, waited 2 hours and paid them $190 for them to tell they couldn’t “replicate” the issue and there was nothing they could do about it. Unbelievable, I’m beyond pissed off. Then on my dashcam I hear the “technician” say verbatim “They’re complaining about that hesitation. Which is normal”…. So they’re aware of the issue but refused to fix it.

Anyone been using Valvoline maxlife synthetic transmission fluid or idemitsu in their Toyota 8-speed automatic for very long? Been wondering how it compares to the Toyota ws stuff
@rhynecars9 ай бұрын
My brother tried it in his Sienna and immediately noticed harder shifting. Use the exact specification of fluid, be it WS, Mercon V, Mobil ATF, otherwise all bets are off. ATF is not like motor oils, it is a fluid designed with hydraulic friction modifiers that can seriously harm your clutches, valvebodies and other parts if you use the wrong type.
@jackle8420009 ай бұрын
@@rhynecars happen to have any details on the year of the sienna and how many miles it had on the fluid that was drained? Was curious because that's also symptoms of the fluid going to long before being changed and transmission damage already having occurred with the old fluid. Going too long between changes can cause hard shifting or slippage. Or getting tiny particles of dirt inside the tran as well. Thanks for the response. Hoping we can get multiple reports with full details from multiple circumstances to gather the most accurate conclusion possible! Unfortunately, it's hard to figure this stuff out without people banning together to report their own experiences.
@jackle8420009 ай бұрын
@@rhynecars I know friction modifiers can make a big difference in oils. If you use car oil in a motorcycle good luck with the clutch. Found that out the hard way once already! But I've seen reports that Toyota doesn't make real good transmission fluid compared to others so I was curious people's experience.

@@rhynecars also been seeing idemitau fluid designed specifically for Toyota ws replacement so I'm wondering if it is ws fluid Even.
@rhynecars9 ай бұрын
@@jackle842000 Yes, as long as the fluid is labeled WS, any brand will work. I would not use a fluid spec that lists multiple types.

I hated my brand new 2018 and sold it after a year. I traded it for an off-lease 2017 SE 4 cyl with 14k miles. The 2018 would come to a 'give way' (yield), and when I applied pedal, it would hesitate and then jerk forward. YES I had the memory flash updated and yes it helped a little bit....but I still hated the tranny/car. I have had my 2017 for 2.5 years and I love how creamy smooth it is. Ok the SE is too harsh on the suspension (US low-tax roads are like Somalia), and I should have got the XLE.

My 2018 LE has the same problem although software is updated with the TSB 0152-19. This issue showed up around 25k miles and still exists which mileage is about 80k! A couple of days ago transmission started to make grinding noise too!! I am so frustrated with dealers and looking for a reliable place to take care of my car. Meanwhile I am thinking to get rid of this junk car. Definitely I won’t come back to Toyota! I would appreciate it if anyone has any advice.

I brought my 2018 Toyota Camry SE with 8 miles at Toyota of north Miami back in August 2017 and unfortunately on 05/23/2019 I find out that I need a new transmission for my car .Let me Start by saying that I did my regular maintenance Every Five Thousand mile interval RECOMMEND by Toyota guidelines making sure it will keep running like a Toyota at Toyota of Hollywood FL and The vehicle haven`t been into any car accident. I’m extremely Strict on maintenance on my vehicle knowing that I drive constantly through harsh weathers. On 05/21/2019 I was heading to Walmart suddenly; the car suddenly start rev on its own while the car is on D drive (as if the car were in neutral) I immediately but gently apply the brakes and pull over on the side of the road turn of the car and restart it. I call Toyota of Hollywood and inform my service adviser the issue and suggest bringing it to the dealership safety. Once I arrive their I meet up with Brian singterry service manager and inform him the issue. He took the vehicle to the technician to get it diagnose. After 45 mins the car was ready for pick up and he inform me that they don`t see any issue. I left the dealership 10 miles later the car starts to act up again, but this time warning light came on from pre-collision system malfunction land departure malfunction etc. I went back to dealership and show my service manager brain. Brain inform me that they will investigate it first think in the morning because it was late in the day. It took the technician 3 days for them to figure out the issue and their conclusion was that it’s a mechanical failure and need a replacement. unfortunately, the powertrain covers 3 years/ 60,000 miles and the time of the issue Occur on 05/23/2019 odometer 68,841 therefore I wasn’t cover under warranty. For a new transmission is $4,597.92 LABOR: $750.38 TAX: $376.14 and Misc.: $25.00 totaling up to $5,749.44 I contact Toyota USA 1-800-331-4331 number and speak with a senior advisor and inform him my situation. After five business days he contact me stating that he had finish his investigation unfortunately due to the car having a lot of mileage in a short time and they are not legally obligated since the car is out of warranty however since were loyal customer they were able to provide help with cost of replacing the transmissions the amount of $2,500 reducing the balanced of $3,249.44. as of today, 6/20/19 my vehicle is repair but unable to take it out because I’m unable to paid $3,249.44 It`s extreme hard to come out Three thousand dollars out of pocket while paying car payments, insurance, food, phone bill, and transportation to go to school and work. My advice to others if your going to buy any vehicle especially totally redesigned vehicle make sure you buy extended warranty and don`t end up in my situation

Thank you for sharing, I hope you are able to get it back soon. If you reach out to several local mechanic shops, you may be able to tell them your story. They may agree to give you a second opinion for a low cost or for free, ,and sometimes dealers are wrong. The dealership cannot hold a car if a repair has not been authorized, but if you have an outstanding bill, they can retain the car as collateral.
