We have a 1999 Land Cruiser that we have had since '98 when I was a baby. 20 years and 185k+ miles later, it rides like a dream, and is currently my favorite car to drive.

I second this. The Land Cruiser 200 series is such an incredible vehicle so much so they are in use by US Special Forces in combat zones right now and there really isn't enough footage of the newer models on youtube.

No matter how expensive it gets, just remember you're paying for its reliability. Thats what most new cars miss out these days and nothing can compare its legendary reliability and capability on and off road.

I really like that you took the time to talk about the sound system. I realize a lot of people will put aftermarket systems if they're real audiophiles, but for the rest of us its helpful to hear if a stock stereo is poor, adequate, or quite good.

One thing you paid for is reliability, other German cars can't match that for the most part while the bmw x5 is a nice car it will more likely have problems in the long run
@tygervoods83586 жыл бұрын
GScottLH not really when bmw's depreciate like a brick and break down every other week with parts and maintenance costing a shit ton to keep them barely running. These Land Cruisers never break down and don't cost a kidney to run, even the 30 year old ones are tough af, if not tougher.

German cars are fun and fast, but drop those fuckers like sackfuls of hot flaming shit a few months before the warranty is up.

I am not saying German cars aren't reliable at all, my point is the landcruiser holds its value a lot better than its competitors, I can admit they are sportier cars than the landcruiser but off roading this car is a beast

an X5 isn't the same class of vehicle. I'm Australian, LC200's are everywhere, an X5 would not even cross the mind of people in the market for one of these

I collect classic bmws - e30s, e34s ... the list goes on. Sure, they are reliable - but the part costs are alot more expensive than parts for my 98 4runner. Not to mention on the newer ones, the electronics, turbos, oil pumps, vanos all that crap hits the fan real quick. So, german reliability? Please - I own the most reliable bmws and they are great but its very maintenance intensive. My 4runner? ball joints, oil changes and timing belt. Need I say more?

Of course it can drive over inconsequential things like 'broken pavement' and 'speed bumps' with aplomb! It was designed with a 25 year service life, built in Japan at one of Toyota's most advanced plants, and it can cruise on the Serengeti with impunity. Nothing else comes close to the Land Cruiser's reliability and build quality.

Soooo expensive. But takes regular gas compared to LX570 🙌🏻 But LX looks much better and is only 5k more expensive. Too bad about the premium gas but I heard lot of people fuel it regular with no issues long term
@jakes55306 жыл бұрын
HugGest the 5 passenger lx is about the same price actually as the lc200 but is worse equipped believe it or not. The 7 passenger lx is around 96-98k making it around 10-12k more than the lc200 - a considerable increase. If it were me id just stick to the land cruiser, i like the notion of “stealth wealth”
@kgisabeast6 жыл бұрын
I mean it has the same engine so I don't see why it wouldn't
@gasolara20026 жыл бұрын
The LX doesn't require premium. Premium just has better performance gains and the ECU is calibrated for both premium and regular. Its the same thing with engine oil. You can use 5w-30 oil with no issues in these engines rather than the more expensive 0w-20 if you do like i do and require an oil change every 5k miles (sequoia flex fuel)

Pound for pound and dollar for dollar the Sequoia looks like the best deal in a body-on-frame Toyota SUV.
@1northsparrow2466 жыл бұрын
If you are buying SUVs by the ton then the Sequoia wins in the value equation. The Premium vs Regular gas question is odd when Toyota sells 5.7 and 4.6 V8 engines with virtually the same output but different fuel specs. It makes little sense to me.
@anthropology4everyone6226 жыл бұрын
Somebody has to get out the calculator to see if a base 4Runner or base Sequoia is cheaper by the ounce. BTW that Land Cruiser (or Sequoia) has to fit securely in the garage or it might wind up on a one way trip to a country whose name ends with the letters "s-t-a-n". ;)
@rightlanehog31516 жыл бұрын
Desperate4Attention , Even if I had the 50-90 grand to spend (new or used) on one of these leviathans , I would still be too CHEAP to pay for Premium every time. Sequoia for the win.

I just wished the land cruiser/lx570 rear 3rd row area was more traditional like a 4runner with its one piece tailgate and fold flat 3rd row
@Nein_Eleven6 жыл бұрын
Tech Defender the fold flat third row will sacrifice ground clearance. Land Cruisers have always had seats fold up to the sides since the 40 series. This makes them easily removable and more vertical storage space. In addition, the clamshell rear door is a hallmark of the LC series as well. With fold flat seats and a one piece door, just buy the sequoia.

This a common theme from toyota about steering wheel. We own 2 4runners and the limited model has very stiff steering wheel. When I compare it to my parents GX 570, its identical in strength. So I noticed that it's a toyota thing.

You're right. It should be sold for at least 100k
@TheBravo13x6 жыл бұрын
And? You could easily waste 100k on a new Ford, Chevy, or Lincoln in the same class and none of them will ever hold their resale value like the LC. I know my LX will sell good if I ever want to sell it no matter what the miles.
@gasolara20026 жыл бұрын
Its a bargain when you compare it to the Mercedes G-Class. They are made with pretty much beefy bits and are made to last. With the Mercedes the American running gear isn't as reliable as the land cruiser but for vehicles used by militarizes and in harsh areas the price is very affordable. Of course I would get both vehicles used. I'm a personal fan of the G55 AMG, The earlier 200 series land cruisers, and the LX570 throughout the lifecycle.

@caseyfryback82716 жыл бұрын
i think most of us have been where you're at... as far as having that mindset. NO BMW will keep running as long as a Land Cruiser, without any major issues AND retain so much value. If you were going to purchase a vehicle for the long term, this over any BMW ever. However, if you were going to lease and try to impress your yuppie co workers then go with a beamer.
