These sell well in Australia (Prado 150) because there are lots of unsealed roads. We like softer suspension for touring on less than ideal road surfaces. Not many people rock crawling in OZ like you do in America. If you don't like the suspension just lift it and go firmer etc, there will be LOTS of suspension kits available. Toyota know their market and the suspension is spot on being soft! Toyota don't need to offer factory options for suspension, there are huge aftermarket options here in Australia, heaps of people change tyres and suspension to suit their personal needs. Marketplace is littered with brand new wheels and tyres and suspension that people swap out.

That 2500-3000RPM oomph experience is something my 2023 4Runner's 4.0L V6 could only dream of. I get 22+ mpg highway in my 4.0L. I'd probably get close to 30 in this with how I drive, and that's with the economy penalty of full-time 4WD. I entirely disagree with that comment that you couldn't offroad these in stock form. Yes, you should put offroad focused tires on any thing that doesn't come on them, even in the same diameter. My 4Runner TRD Offroad came on total highway tires. But 9" of ground clearance is enough, and the entire underside of this thing is well-protected against bashes. 9" protected (Land Cruiser) and 9" unprotected in a Subaru Wilderness are two different things. Can't count how many times I've landed on the tow hitch on my current and previous 4Runners. Or the rear axle. Or even the front suspension. It's all tough. This thing has much more useful power than my 4.0L. My 4.0 moves well when you kick all the way down and redline it. It does not move well in any other situation, anywhere south of 4500RPM. The LC250 is usable power everywhere, high end and low end.
@johnmontesi59645 ай бұрын
This guy knows. I owned a 2018 4Runner for 100k miles and am now nearly 100k in on an Outback Wilderness. have test driven a Land Cruiser 1958 trim. Can confirm all the above, from how much better the LC250 feels power-wise than the 4Runner (or the Wilderness with it's extra-mushy CVT) to the difference in measured ground clearance and *what* is 9 inches off the ground. On the one hand, I've taken my Outback more places than most 4Runners will ever go. On the other, I've damaged my Outback doing so more than I ever did while taking my 4Runner to similar places. I wheel my vehicles HARD. Not for sport, but to get to extremely remote trails, canyons, and points of interest in the American Southwest. While I'll never build a wheelin' rig for sport, I certainly use my vehicles as-intended (and then some). The Land Cruiser 250 is going to be the right vehicle for a lot of people once they get over the hypothetical boogeyman of "reliability" and "repairing things with twine and duct tape in the Australian Outback" while in reality they off road no more than myself or many other outdoors enthusiasts who view off-road travel as a fun perk of our primary hobbies rather than our entire personalities.

I’m an owner of a 200 series. I test drove a ‘24 today and I really wanted to like it but I was disappointed. There is a lot of hunting between the IC and battery at low speeds and the 4 sounds ROUGH. If you jump on the gas this isn’t as noticeable but stop and go traffic would be tiresome. The visibility is also compromised compared to the 200 series. The WS is 50% as big and the rearview mirror/rain sensor section plunges halfway down the glass. The beltline is higher too. I’m guessing the author of this video hasn’t driven a 200 series because the new version handled like a BMW in comparison. Much less roll and much tighter steering. The new LC looks fantastic and I like the back to basics approach but I doubt it will appeal to prior LC owners. A minority view but thought I would share.

Once again, the Land Cruiser will leave the US market due to high prices. And this is just the Prado. It’s like the 4Runner and GX make it irrelevant.

I really like the new Land Cruisers, but the mark ups right now are insane. And the crap handling on the road is disappointing. Congrats on the watch acquisition though. Their GMT’s are some of the coolest GMT’s out there I think. Thanks for taking us on the drive!

I’m a bit confused by the complaints here… we’ve got an off-road focused vehicle doing 56mph around a corner marked 30mph and we’re complaining about tiring squealing and handling capabilities? Land Cruisers shifted slowly from off-road centric vehicles to luxury SUVs and PEOPLE STOPPED BUYING THEM! The decision to go back to a more basic vehicle that excels off-road, allows for aftermarket modular upgrades, and comes in $20k under the previous luxury model is going to make Toyota an insane amount of money. And on the terms of money, they are expensive but in 1994 an 80 series was equivalent to $80k in today’s money. A person not being able to afford it doesn’t make it a bad vehicle.

At $80K I'm getting a a new X5 40i Xdrive on air and buy a set of offroad wheels. My BIL wheeled no problem with his '18 X5 diesel with stock all season tires

Having owned a BMW, I can only say enjoy the fun while it lasts. My 33 year old Land Cruiser is still on its original drivetrain, I’ll never go back to a German car as long as I have more sense than money.

That’s fair, but for comparison we bought a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara with the 6 speed manual for $51k out the door. It’s loaded too! We spent another $4k on a 3 inch lift, 35s and nice rims, also added a cold air intake. It has 50k on it and it’s been flawless. I understand jeeps can be very expensive too, but it’s hard to justify $88k cdn for a Land Cruiser.

@@christophermckee4022 lmao Toyota uses BMW's B58 powerplant + ZF transmission in the Supra. The new LC uses injectors on the valve cover, plastic intake manifold, plastic cooling reservoirs, an enormous amount of control modules. This new LC is vastly different from the old LC. Your opinion on BMW is as dated as that 33 year old LC. Modern BMWs still have issues, but the headache and complexity is no longer exclusive to BMW. So if I'm spending almost $80k for the same assessed risk and longevity for both modern vehicles, I'm going with a B58 powertrain.

Great watch! Every bit as nice as an explorer without the stupid high price. Pairs well with that Land Cruiser, which I guess is also pretty nice. 😉
