2018 Tracker ProTeam 190TX One Month Update *BAD NEWS*

The video I never wanted to have to make.....I have some bad news about the new boat.

To everyone who is just seeing this video, or wants an update...we do have the boat back. The loctite fix was a no go for us, even though we were assured it would not be a bandaid, we said absolutely not and would not accept the boat back without a new part. Ironically enough a new part was sent to the shop very soon after, the repair was made, and we have since put many hours on it. Very happy with it!

I totally agreed with you. It's a defective part and the only remedy is a functioning part. Glad it worked out. I had a Yamaha on my prior boat and am considering a Mercury on a new boat so this is something I'll have to consider.

I just saw this and I'm glad you stood your ground. I personally would not have accepted the bandaid fix in the beginning. I would have asked to borrow a demo boat until mine was repaired with a new part or new motor.

I know this post is 6 months old. Hope all is well with your issue now. Briefly I had bought a 2013 Z7 from Bass Pro out of Leeds Al. Has a 150 fourstroke on it. Started leaking oil shortly after break-in. After several trips to Leeds Bass pro and back to Huntsville. It was still not fixed. They kept it for almost 2 months and could never figure out the problem. I was fortunate. I guess because they finally swapped out motors. Had a rough start, but all has been good since. Good luck.

I got a mercury but in Alaska anyone in the bush knows to buy a Yamaha. They are the go to motor for remote fishing lodges and villagers . That tells me a lot. Wishing they offered it on my targa from bass pro but they only sell mercury.

Under 10 hours typically yes new motor but anything over 10hrs warranty takes the repair route.

@@rickywright3894 Most of these problems occur in the first few hours. Been working at Mercury dealer for 9 years and these machining defects always give problems at the very beginning. If your motor is passed its break in point you should be good to go.

They should give you a new motor. Lemon motor with no replacement parts available should be replaced with a new motor of the same hp or better.

That's good they got a new part , Idident like the lock tight, it was more like JB weld they would use , sounds like your good to go.Keep checking the oil and watch for oil bubbles when your fishing.Good luck

We have a local guy that has had boat loads of issues with his Merc. You can see his video on it at Ozark angler. Merc told him they were done fixing it with years of warranty left. Grrrr makes a person not like them. Good luck on your boat.

I've been a automotive service advisor for 11 years, i feel your pain man i see brand new cars come in needing engines and transmissions and of course the owners are frustrated. Sucks to see this happen on a brand new boat I am sure it was a headache to deal with. To add to my earlier comment, i took mine to a mercury dealer not to a boat dealer i dont know if that makes a difference. Im sorry for your trouble. But on a good note i love mine, i did raise my motor to the third hole down and put a trophy plus 19 pitch 4 blade prop on it, hole shot is instant 52 - 55 mph and gteat performance. I got a 65hp Mercury had 9.9hrs because the oil pump locked up on me 2 miles away from the dock and no one was at the lake to help me out. Got a new block in it and been happy ever since.

I have had a couple of Mercury motors on my boats (most by accident as they came on a used boat I bought). I love my 2 stroke Black Max 200 from decades ago. I am not thrilled with Mercury now. I have had some quality issues that have caused me some down time and money. I am looking for a new tin rig now and I can guarantee you that my next motor will be a Yamaha. I have two friends who fish and have Yamaha. they have been ridiculously reliable and one of them is a commercial fishing rig with dual 150s on it. They both have really good maintenance and he takes care of them but they both have over 3400 hours on them. Still both have great compression, run like tops. That says a lot to me.

I feel your pain I had a similar experience with a semi truck just had the truck for 29 days then it was down in the shop 5 weeks later they wanted me to pay 8,800 bucks.Which my platinum warranty only covered like 10%.I said he’ll no took everything out of truck including tag called bank told them the keys are in it.long story short bank or dealer paid for repairs only after I told them I was a Repeating customer with both bank and semi dealer.

I had a problem with a spin bearing on my new 150 4 stroke with 13 hours on it. Took it my local Mercury dealer and within 3 days Mercury had shipped a new motor and I had boat back within a week. I blame the dealer not Mercury.

I just took my 2018 ranger rt178 to the dealership because of an oil slick behind the boat I really hope that this is not the same issue. It has a mercury 60hp fourstroke.

Yes, Mercury should replace the defective machined casting... And the associated labor to replace it and then test run the motor...

This is a classic move on Tracker Marines part, they get you up and going with a temporary fix until the warranty is up then it's all on you ($$$$) after that. The leak will return, lots of internal pressure inside the crank case.

I have owned the top 3 motors over my 45 years of Bass Fishing and have had my share of issues with all. I have had the fewest with Mercury. The answer is not switching, demand a new motor and don’t let up. That’s bullshit!! Factory defect should be new motor.. Good Luck!!

I have had 3 different boats, all Mercury's on them, and all different HP's. My dad also had 2 different boats with Mercury's on them. Most of the guys I fish local tourney's with have Mercury's on their boats all without issues's, and would not trade one for another. I'm not, nor would I ever, switch outboard manufacturers just because of an isolated issue. Even if I was an Evinrude guy I wouldn't switch to a Mercury just because of a couple isolated incidents...that's asinine. Mercury, Evinrude, Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, or whatever are all good motors...just like Chevy, Ford, Dodge, or Toyota's are all good trucks. It's all about preference, choice, type of fishing, reason, or just plain arrogance that makes your decision. Thank you sir for the first intellectual comment I've seen so far.

Absolutely not sure why tacker won't give customers a choice with engines. Mercury engines aren't as reliable as Yamaha, Evenrude, or Suzuki. Tracker would sell more boats if they did this.

@@BluntTruth7 I'm not sure if you remember when tracker boats came with Evinrude motors, Mercury offered "big bucks" to return to their product. BP Group went back to Mercury. Then the Brunswick Company (owner of Mercury) made a huge investment in BP Group. This has allow JM to expand the brand and also allowed BPS to be the largest seller of boats in the world. In 2010 Brunswick's sold the Triton Boat parent company to Platinum Equity (who also owns Stratos and Ranger.) In 2014 BP Group bought the company back. As I understand the purchase, The BP Group intends to keep the company New sales and production separate.

I worked at a Manufacturing plant and when someone screws up they should be accountable and ironically this is a mistake made but ignored. Quality control couldn’t have seen this, the person installing it should have not let this motor pass. Glad they fixed it for yuu

I had the same problem oil leak on the same motor 115 pro xs 2018 one week after purchase. Took mine to a merc dealer found the problem bad casting just like yours. 4 days later 2019 115 pro xs was installed on my boat 2018 tracker pro team 190 tx no questions ask. They said they would not fix a brand-new motor that statement came directly from mercury

No it didn’t. My brand new motor kept dying on me last year a couple weeks after I bought it. Turns it it was a bad fuel pump under a recent recall. Shop had it replaced under warranty in a few days. They don’t have a policy to replace motors that can be repaired.

I'm planning on buying a 2019 Bass Cat Pantera Classic and they come with a Mercury 200 pro xs but I don't feel like being a guinea pig for Mercury trying to build their first 4 stroke, so I asked the dealership if I could get a different motor and they said yes! Just now watching your video and I'm sorry to see and hear about your problems you are having with your New Tracker aluminum bass boat. I think that Mercury should have taken your Mercury Outboard motor back and Should give you a New Mercury of Equal or Greater value. That is pretty Damn Cheap of Mercury Marine to try and do what I call a Spit and Glue Repair, Cheap and Easy for them Not for You. Hopefully Mercury Marine makes it Right. If they don't , I think I would pursue legal action. Best of luck to you !

Mercury outboard from 2to 30 are made by a Japanese company ,tolotsa and 40to 60 are made by mercury in China and then 75 and up are made by merc in Wisconsin

Hey guys, wanted to make a quick update. Made the call again (4th call overall) to mercury today (Monday July 9) and let them know that the approved loctite Fix was unacceptable. they let us know that they do now have that part in stock (conveniently enough) and they will be shipping one. Asked when it would be shipped, they said they would call back today with an answer. So that’s where we are at, any new updates I’ll post here. Thanks for following along.

Blake Greene I apologize for such a late reply, to answer your question, yes, the repair work done on the motor was covered by the warranty. And Bone stock empty the boat would run about 50, as I have rigged now with gear and two people were seeing 46-47.

Joe Bob nope. Its in their contract. They are NOT RESPONSIBLE OR LIABLE for any downtime or loss of money for any warranty work. It sucks. Its been over 2 months with no boat, missed 3 tournaments, and been paying monthly payments. It will probably be there another 3 weeks. Now im waiting on all the new hatches to come in.

Beagler Bass Fishing & Outdoors i get that all day long as a boat thats 3-6 months old. But new boat 4-6 weeks i would either have new engine, new boat, or full refund. They like to make you think they are in total control. They are not. Last fall is was looking at buying one after selling my glass 520 ranger. I told salesman i wasnt paying for the trash troller and garbage electronics they sell as package. Didnt want them at all. He made call and said best they could do is not install them but was package and they would be mine to sell. I said nope, i’ll go buy a Vexus, they do what you want on a $30k rig. Bye bye. He called 3 days later and said he talked to upper mgt and they’de do deal. I told him to late, im turned off on Tracker now. He then told me they would upgrade entire package for same price. Still to late. Buying a Vexus. Point is, a lawyer in your case will smash them with lemon law if boat is that new. But thats spendy of course. Interesting... it's been a while since this was posted. Have you had any problems with the repair? I don't understand why the dealer. Didn't just pull the motor off and replace it. They were going to warranty it anyway especially being only a month old. This seems a more logical way of handling the situation. Allowing you to get your boat back sooner. Then send the motor back to Mercury warranty repair.

Ron Thompson thanks for the comment. I have had no issues with the repair at all, everything has been great. The boat is going in for annual service here soon, and will make an update video after that. The dealer told me that they were tied up with how mercury was going to handle it, and they could not take any action that was not approved from mercury.

Went To the Tracker Boat center in Shakopee. Mn. to look at a used boat. It was crap so I looked at a new boat. They emailed me a quote including taxes and all fees along with a credit app. I filled out the app online overnight and went to the dealer at 8am when they open. They said the price went up overnight $1,505.00. They don't want to honor their own written quote that's less than 24 hours old. Then at 5pm I get a call and email saying...OOOOPs. Its the 2022's that went up in price not the 2021's. still want the boat? UMMMMMMMMMMM.

I would of just had them pull that lemon off that boat and put a hole new one on. You will have problems with that motor years from now. What happens if you have to work on that motor then you gonna have to get it re-sealed you’re screwed.

I’m going with Yamaha when I upgrade. Merc’s have a horrible reputation with their customer service and oil feed problems.
