Would this work with a Roscoe 6 as well? It came with Formula DC-2241, alloy, 6-bolt, Shimano 8/9/10 freehub, Boost141, 5mm QR and it’s total junk and Trek really doesn’t have a fix for it. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I have final solution for everyone! If you will buy ANY hub for thru axle with Boost (like 12x148) with possibility to replace end caps for quick release, you will get 141 mm width. End cups will adjust width from 148 mm thru axle to 141 mm QR. I have done it with Mavic CrossMax 29 Boost 12x148 (R2468110) and Mavic QR ID360 end cups 9x135 (V2510801). Final width is 141 mm. And you can do the exact same with DT Swiss, Hope, Bontrager or any hub with replaceable end cups. Mavic is probably the cheapest, you can do it for around 140 EUR. Other mentioned brands are 180 EUR for Bontrager and 220 EUR for DT Swiss and Hope.

Lacing wheels is tedious, but extremely rewarding. There are a ton of videos here on KZbin that will show you how to do it. Hope hubs are extremely sturdy, but out of my price range, where function and cost are concerned. It sounds great though.

That hub costs 1/5 of the entire bike man (plus spokes and lacing). You can buy a very good wheel for the price of that fancy hub. I mean I cant justify spending 200 Pounds just to change a HUB, on a bike that costs 1000. Are there other alternatives ?

Just ordered an Industry 9 Hydra rear hub for my Roscoe 8. Can’t wait to get it laced up! That stock rear hub is ATROCIOUS! Just an FYI for anybody looking to upgrade a Roscoe to save you some headache, I9 offers their hubs in boost 141 qr so you don’t have to mess with converting a 148 hub, and they offer all driver bodies so they’ll work on any drivetrain. They also offer their hubs in 28h so it’ll work with the stock Bontrager Line 40 rims.

Thank you so much for this vid. I have a 2020 Roscoe 7 and it has been hard to find a fitting hub. I love the bike but the rear hub, Trek: I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT YOU HAVE CHOSEN SUCH A SHITTY BAD FORMULA HUB QUALITY ON A SUPREME FRAME LIKE THIS. I sent a mail to Trek about this because I am so disapointed. I'm an engineer and worked a lot with materials and metals, the metal they have chosen, not to mention the unbelievable bad dimension quality, it should have been a mass law suit. My hub is completly destroyed and I havent ridden my bike for 2 straight months in the wait for Trek to respond. They didn't so I am getting a Specialized next time. It is such a shame because the Roscoe has such an incredible fun frame! Still, I'm keeping the bike and I am upgrading with the Hope hub my self, thank you :)

I realize this video is a few years old, but if by any chance, you're still getting your service done by the same LBS... beware? As many have already pointed out, the cassette was indeed loose. If the shop installed it, that's "very bad". Additionally, they goofed the wheel build. Valve hole is incorrectly clocked with the spoke groupings. This is not as bad as a loose cassette, but that shop charged you for a service that was executed subpar. Being that you are seemingly quite knowledgeable and care about your bike, I just wanted to mention this. In any case, this is a very informative video--thanks!

Aaand my Formula 141 QR hub also started doing everything shown in the video. The driveside cone came loose during a really wet and dirty ride and got filled with water and abrasive materials. Took it apart and regreased everything but apparently the freehub body is basically shot now. Good thing I was planning on a wheelset upgrade anyway.

I have been riding xcaliber 7 2021 for almost a year. The rear hub was making ticking sounds and had to bring the bike to Trek to repair the hub. They insisted on the hub being fine but the trueness and spoke tension being the issue. However, when they returned the wheel back to me, the ticking noise was gone and knew that they repair the hub. Probably they dont want to admit the issue because it sounds like to be a general issue with the rear hub on the start line of x caliber and roscoe. I will be replacing the rear hub to Hope just like this guy did.

Great vid. Have the same issue with my Cannondale Trail, and those 141 QR hubs are hard to find... Yeah someone else already pointed that out, kinda bummed they didn't do a better job, they also failed to install the provided spacer between the cassette and hub, I had to do that myself. It has NEVER been tore into, that was like that from from Formula Engineering Inc. (Taiwan) if anybody wanted to know. Front hub is a DC511. I want to replace my front hub as well. U were smart to save money by just getting black to match and keeping the front stock. I took a different path and got blue. I thought it was funny being that I just spent more on this 1 upgrade then my bike cost out of the door. Basically just to have a 12 speed and the 2019 comes with it. I know I could of got the NX eagle and kept my black hubs but I went blue and got the GX which changed everything. Maybe a dumb question but say I get a hope hub and build a wheel, so I now need a new cassette and maybe drivetrain? Or can I just remove the stock cassette off my roscoe and put it on the new hub and wheel?

It was an hour of labour at the bike shop, I had some issues with the first shop that did the work, so it ended up being a giant PITA! In hindsight I wish I would have just gotten a new wheelset. The Bontrager Line 30's are sweet and can easily be converted to fit Boost 141
