I'm in the same camp, I don't generally look at cruisers, but this bike is a stunner! Even just the name, "Speedmaster" is cool! I think it would look very cool to remove the pillion seat and grab rail, and just leave the rear fender bare. Although I guess I'm too young to appreciate whitewall tires.

I went along to my local Triumph Dealers open day last month and there was a great unveiling for the Speedmaster. Given the number of people who were admiring it, it’s going to be a sure fire hit for Triumph. I’ll be getting my NHS pension in a few years, so I’ll definitely be adding one of these along with my Explorer. Makes one proud to be British 🇬🇧😎.

Sportsbikes may have designed aerodynamic fairings but nothing can beat the looks of such a classic cruiser with all the chrome and metal tank, it feels like a motorcycle where one can admire the bike and also enjoy the ride.

I was just informed by my Salesman that my dealer's Triumph Rep might want to talk to me because of swapping the tank. Apparently I'm the (or one of the) first to do it. Might want photos. That's pretty cool that he's interested. Who knows, you might be reviewing a bike next year called 2019 Triumph Bonneville BobberMaster. Haha!

Late to the party, as ever! Had my heart set on a bobber black so organized a test ride. I got to my local Triumph dealer and saw the speedy in the flesh. I rode both back to back and was disappointed with the bobber, just not right for me. The speedy on the other hand, was a revelation. Never ridden a cruiser type before but it felt perfect from the start. My hands just fell in to place on the bars, and I quickly got the hang of the foot peg location. Fell totally in love. Long story short, having watched your reviews and many others, she has been ordered and arrives next week. Had the heated grips and a couple of other bits added. £150 for the grips I thought was good value. Cant wait for her to turn up now, like a kid at Christmas! Thanks for the reviews.

I rode this very bike a few weeks ago. Nice bike! You can have the mid controls from the Bobber fitted as well as the Bobber handlebars on the Spepedmaster. One thing I noticed being a Harley rider is you feel you are sitting right on top of the Speedmaster, whereas on a Harley you feel you sitting more in the bike, lower I guess. Both great, just different.

Great review. I would definitely buy one of these (currently ride a Tiger 800). The only thing I don’t like is the chain - really wish Triumph would do more bikes with shaft/belt drive, especially on bikes like this that won’t have a center stand.

Hands down would buy one if it was belt or shaft. Seems like a no brained with the durability of this engine but I’m not an engineer so

"Detritus." "Absconded." It's just so refreshing to hear a KZbinr (especially a gearhead, as we Americans call it) having such etymological prowess. 🤔 Seriously, though, that is one of the many reasons why I have been a TMF subscriber for so long.

I like a lot of different motorcycles and they all have their place however I have to say that this bike just nails what I think motorcycles are about. It's such a classic beautiful look, is perfect for just cruising around and enjoying the ride yet handles really well and has great performance and personality. If I only had one motorcycle I would love it if it were this one.

I was blown away by how well this rides. It fools you, doesn't it? I didn't think it would corner like it does! And the paint job on that model is just amazing in person. I loved the easy Cruise Control, too. Thanks for the video, and I completely agree about choosing over Bobber...range, pillion, embodies what a cruiser could be IMHO.

Great review TMF. Cruiser style was not something that ever floated my boat particularly, until that is I had to test ride my gf’s Kawasaki Vulcan S for her just after she’d passed her cat A. Now, whilst sat on my Tiger 800 on a ride out with her, I do get quite envious - although a strange seating position to get used to at first, I ended up loving it - such fun to ride. Speedmaster is definitely my choice in that genre, having perched myself on it at the Motorcycle Show - glad it seems to have your seal of approval!

After a 20yr break from biking I recently bought an old zzr1100. Two things I noticed: 1. Get decent tyres. The tyres that came with the bike were worn and the it felt terrible, I was actually nervous to ride it. Bought some new Metzeler roadtech’s and now it’s a joy. 2. The British roads are really bad. You don’t notice so much when in a car, but when on a bike you realise how badly maintained they are. My two bobs.

I rode one of these a while back. Loved the engine, handling & looks. Hated the seat/riding position. I ended up with excruciating pain through my coccyx before the end of the test ride so it's interesting to hear your review TMF. I'm 6'1" so the bike felt quite small; I didn't have any comfort issues on the big T-Bird or even the old Speedmaster, so maybe this new one just doesn't 'fit' me... Phil Buglass I agree. I love the styling, in fact, the Speedmaster's looks is what first brought Triumph to my attention. But I've never been a fan of forward controls. But I'm pretty sure these controls can be moved back a bit. That might make it just about perfect.

Great video will have to say I believe that's one of the only bikes on the market at this time that has handlebars of that style and they are great. If someone's looking for comfort add a Touring seat windshield and that bike is ready for long rides without breaking the bank.

Totally agree with you Mr Flyer about the head nod, or wave. It seems to be the new younger generation of rider. I think they're not aware that it exists at all. I asked a few of them I rode with once, & they replied "I didn't know until you told me." It truly is a sense of brotherhood, a feeling of belonging to something great. And all it is, is a simple nod or wave. In my instance, being a BMW & Ducati owner, I guess they're probably just in shock that I nodded ! Cheers groover ;-)

I loved the look and idea of the speedmaster, after a test ride I was disappointed with the seating position which I expected to be more comfortable. Having just come off of 17k miles on a big old forward foot controlled cruiser the problem, as you felt at 14:13 , is that you have very little chance to stand (or post) when a big pot hole is coming up .You have to rely completely on the shock absorbers .. After skiing most of my life I am very happy to be back on a bike where I am using my legs as part of the suspension system .. On the big & windy highways you will find that the cruisers above 1700 cc and 750 pounds are a different kind of beast that eat up thousands of miles in comfort (just dont drop one ) .. Try an Indian Springfield to get the "Cruiser fever " The Honda Gold Wing is another master - bike that is in a world all unto itself .. All the best , Guy

Another excellent video. Thank you. I really like the Bobber but think I might get frustrated with it’s limitations. The small tank, single seat, no place to carry anything. It looks like it should come with a backpack. Saying that, I still love it. I went to my Triumph dealer for a look at the Speedmaster and was underwhelmed. Some bikes you walk up and say, “Hello Nurse!”. I didn’t feel that with the Speedmaster. I will revisit the dealer and try for a demo ride. Perhaps she can still bewitch me. I wonder why Triumph don't have engine characteristics as a user option? I love to ride bikes with loads of torque, but others may prefer to see a Bonneville or Thruxton engine slotted in. So why not give them the choice? Changing fork seals is a regular maintenance chore so it's nice to see the fork gaiters fitted as standard. Acknowledging other bikers is alive and well in France. I've just come back from there and even had a couple of Harley riders on bikes spec out as US police motorcycles turn on sirens and gave me a wave. Nice bike, great review as ever.

Geoff Halsey even a free choice of mapping would suffice since they're mostly the same engine, imagine how many more customers they'd pull

Surprisingly nice bike. Really looks like something from the 60s. Be interested what you think to a Harley. I’d say 9 bikes out of 10 around here are Harleys. Not my thing but really seem suited to the roads here. 2 things would possibly stop me wanting this! Small tank and the cost.
