When I bought the Atlas SEL AWD in June 2017, it was after exhaustive comparisons. I had to replace my Audi. I wanted the perfect family station wagon (not a race car) with AWD, lots of space, and ground clearance. We'd driven the Mazda CX-9 the summer of 2016 and liked it, but in 2017 when we were in the market to buy, we discovered the CX-9 had no air vents for the 3rd row and it was so much smaller inside compared to the Atlas. Highlander was better, but the spaciousness/luxury of the Atlas, 6 yr.72,000 warrantee, and Appleplay won us over. The Atlas was so much bigger inside than its rivals, and we did go for the SEL. I hated all lower models because only the SEL package has front adjustable passenger seat. There's no height adjustment in lower models for front passenger. Only downside to the VW that I hope they'll improve is larger gas tank (range on road trip was about 330-350miles) and fuel consumption. I did identify an error in the owner's manual on the SEL model that got them to rewrite it... no place to mount a front plate if you have the SEL radar... as owners manual said you can't block the region where it was supposed to be mounted. We didn't want to drill the front bumper cover, so my plate is hanging by zip ties down below. A tow hook would've been nice for an aftermarket plate holder but there's only one tow hook, and its in the back bumper. Besides that, the Atlas is awesome... We love it, and it IS bigger inside than the Audi Q7, and less annoying and worrisome with less gadgets and gizmos that can break or be broken. Q7 isn't a proper family car for little kids, because you're going to flip a bitch over the smallest thing (like kids playing in grandma's parlor) if someone touches something wrong or spills something. You drive a car IT WILL GET SCRATCHED or breathed on wrong. The Atlas SEL is pricey but is perfect for mixture of perfect functionality for the family and luxury. Plus it feels a little more exclusive being less of them are on the road. I bought my the first few weeks it was available and no one had one. AND when the crash tests came out later I discovered how much safer it is than the rivals including the Ford Explorer

Also another key feature we loved was the ability to access the third row seats without the need to remove car seats from the second row. The Atlas can hold 5 car seats... three across the 2nd row. (we only have two kids, but it was neat knowing that for when we haul cousins)

Great review. Thanks. The smaller gas tank is what's making me hesitate on the Atlas. I drive 50 miles/day for work so more fill-ups.

I agree with what you talked about, I have a 2019 Atlas SEL premium few months ago, that’s a very good family car in the market, very comfortable and huge room to accommodate anything, V6 engine is getting better after several months driving, it’s not the race car, but very down-to-earth car, good-looking car

Whoever first makes an upper tier 7 seater suv that's ELECTRIC and gets 300 miles of range for around 40k starting will basically win at cars in America for years. Since for normal buyers their only reason for not getting massive cars like this is gas mileage

Although they weren't confirmed to be the same product, they recently teased what this crossover may be, the mach 1, basically the teaser showed a explorer, aka a 7 seater suv and a mustang basically going into a garage to make a hybrid love child. A hybrid sports ford suv? Sign me up lol.

The Atlas SEL Premium has the ability to also perpendicularly park itself, not just parallel park. But it will only get you out of a parallel parking spot in auto mode, it is not fully automatic though, when you are using the self parking for parallel and perpendicular, and for getting out of a parallel parking spot, you still have to work the gas, the break and the shifter. That car does the steering, you just have to follow the directions on the screen.

Sheth Jones not necessarily compared to anything, but moreso it seems to be par for the course for many companies as of late, with VW being one of the largest offenders. Probably ok for this class of vehicle, but they are doing it in Audis, too. Compare the interior of a Q5 to that of a Volvo XC60 for the same price....

In July 2018, I purchased a VW flagship version of Teramont 530V6 (2.5T) in Shenzhen, China. While I driving to 4000 kilometers, a brake failure was found. At the same time, I found that the engine was seriously leaking oil. The whole vehicle suddenly stopped running two times so far, You have to restart before you can drive. The problem has not been completely solved by looking for manufacturers and distributors many times. This problem brings a lot of troubles to my life, and I lose my confidence in Volkswagen. This case can be used for your reference when you want to buy a SAIC Volkswagen.

@Pube83, they've extended their bumper to bumper warranty to a fully 6 years 72k miles, so that alone indicates they've improved the reliability or are just trying to build goodwill backup. German cars aren't known for their reliability, particularly of their electronics, but in general, the performance, safety, and technology (if you want it) that you get in them make up for the fault of reliability. At least in my mind. Their just well made vehicles and their safety particularly is the differentiating factor for me compared to some Japanese or American tin can piece of shit.

any1 catch Sof say"Ponda Pilot'@ 23:15..LOL Good review, as always. I rented a 2018 SE w/15 miles on it from Avis. Abused it for a week, with long drives from Miami to Tampa for work conferences. The engine is pretty good, but as he stated, u have to really put your foot on it to pass and overtake cars at about 80 mph, with the AC on. It felt a bit top heavy for some reason, and it was practically new. The head unit display is exactly as he stated, easy to use and clear. Gas mileage wasn't that good either. I am fortunate to have a company gas card, so i started with 87, then tried the 93 octane. No big difference. Leatherette is not that bad, co workers who got in could not tell the difference. I had 2018 pathfinder previous week w/ 7 miles, and plastics still on the bumpers and wheel rims. BEST FUEL ECONOMY EVER, and i abused that as well. Just didn't like the CVT. Overall, I would take over the VW.

The interior looks so clean, classy, functional, elegant. Nothing crazy. Does it have ambient lighting though? Also, this seems like a better value-priced alternative & more spacious than the Lincoln Aviator. I know they don't exactly compare size-wise & price-wise but a well-equipped to fully-loaded Reserve or Black Label trim is very expensive for a lease 😂. This would more affordable for a lease

i guess this is purely subjective issue, but while Ford has been making great looking cars in recent years, they haven't aged that well as time passes. Only exception to these would be Focus and Mustang where both designs are evolutionary than revolutionary. I find rest of the Ford designs hang on the conservative side, but the problem is none of their designs age well. It almost feels like Ford wants the customers to continuously swap out their cars ever 5 years or so and forget about the previous models. It feels like Ford wants the flare and glory on its first model years and forget about it. It feels cheap and I can't see it lasting. On the other hand, I give Lincoln a nod and would like to see how their design language ages over time.

The problem with the Atlas and the new Tiguan is they are both way underpowered. Both are 50 to 100 horsepower BEHIND the competition. The Atlas is a huge vehicle in dire need of 325 ponies or more. If you don't believe me, drive an Atlas with the V-6 then tell me I'm wrong.

FYI Just to let people know: In order to tow 5,000 lbs VW says that you have to have the V6 engine paired with AWD and it HAS to be the "SEL" Trim or higher. For example the AWD V6 "SE" Trim will NOT tow 5,000 lbs.
@Kareem-cx4fi
@Kareem-cx4fi 6 жыл бұрын
Spencer C nah dude, V6 + AWD + Volkswagen factory installed tow hitch. Models below SEL don't come with the hitch by default. So you have to have the factory hitch optioned on a SE V6 AWD.
@spencerc4338
@spencerc4338 6 жыл бұрын
Ma J The VW factory won't install a hitch on an "SE" Trim. Bottom line!! The Atlas isn't great at towing to begin with so I wouldn't want to tow a full 5,000 lbs with an aftermarket hitch anyhow. Bottom line, if you are going to be towing 5,000 lbs get an "SEL" !!! By the way it's not my opinion, it's a fact! So you can argue all you want "dude". I have been a VW enthusiast my entire life, alright "dude?"
@Kareem-cx4fi
@Kareem-cx4fi 6 жыл бұрын
technically if you are towing 5K lbs you should be getting a vehicle with a higher tow capacity. You should never tow a vehicles maximum on a public road (especially highways), you risk getting a ticket or even worse (accident/ loss of life), performance would be pretty bad as well. I would tow 300-200 lbs minimum below the maximum capacity tow capacity, preferably at least 500 lbs below if I have to be driving on public roads.
@spencerc4338
@spencerc4338 6 жыл бұрын
Ma J Correct!! And that's why I said the Atlas isn't good that great at towing to begin with, so if you do tow, I would recommend getting an "SEL" trim because THAT is the trim that can tow 5,000 lbs. Similar to what you said, better SAFE THAN SORRY. That has been the point I have been trying to illustrate the entire time which is if you tow at all, it's BEST to get an "SEL" trim because that is the one rated for the max towing capacity out of all the other Atlas'.
@spencerc4338
@spencerc4338 6 жыл бұрын
Ma J And yeah, my family owns a boat and camper, so I am towing all the time and trust me, I am VERY familiar with ALL tell safety rules. At least we seem to be on the same page regarding the Atlas. Regardless, it sounds like you are a fellow VW enthusiast/car guy so we can at least agree and appreciate cars in general. Have a good one! God bless.
