When I bought the Atlas SEL AWD in June 2017, it was after exhaustive comparisons. I had to replace my Audi. I wanted the perfect family station wagon (not a race car) with AWD, lots of space, and ground clearance. We'd driven the Mazda CX-9 the summer of 2016 and liked it, but in 2017 when we were in the market to buy, we discovered the CX-9 had no air vents for the 3rd row and it was so much smaller inside compared to the Atlas. Highlander was better, but the spaciousness/luxury of the Atlas, 6 yr.72,000 warrantee, and Appleplay won us over. The Atlas was so much bigger inside than its rivals, and we did go for the SEL. I hated all lower models because only the SEL package has front adjustable passenger seat. There's no height adjustment in lower models for front passenger. Only downside to the VW that I hope they'll improve is larger gas tank (range on road trip was about 330-350miles) and fuel consumption. I did identify an error in the owner's manual on the SEL model that got them to rewrite it... no place to mount a front plate if you have the SEL radar... as owners manual said you can't block the region where it was supposed to be mounted. We didn't want to drill the front bumper cover, so my plate is hanging by zip ties down below. A tow hook would've been nice for an aftermarket plate holder but there's only one tow hook, and its in the back bumper. Besides that, the Atlas is awesome... We love it, and it IS bigger inside than the Audi Q7, and less annoying and worrisome with less gadgets and gizmos that can break or be broken. Q7 isn't a proper family car for little kids, because you're going to flip a bitch over the smallest thing (like kids playing in grandma's parlor) if someone touches something wrong or spills something. You drive a car IT WILL GET SCRATCHED or breathed on wrong. The Atlas SEL is pricey but is perfect for mixture of perfect functionality for the family and luxury. Plus it feels a little more exclusive being less of them are on the road. I bought my the first few weeks it was available and no one had one. AND when the crash tests came out later I discovered how much safer it is than the rivals including the Ford Explorer
@sternme6 жыл бұрын
Also another key feature we loved was the ability to access the third row seats without the need to remove car seats from the second row. The Atlas can hold 5 car seats... three across the 2nd row. (we only have two kids, but it was neat knowing that for when we haul cousins)
@fidelbanuelos96015 жыл бұрын
Great review. Thanks. The smaller gas tank is what's making me hesitate on the Atlas. I drive 50 miles/day for work so more fill-ups.

That irked me about the new tiguan where you can only get the LED headlights with that top of the line model....

The Atlas SEL Premium has the ability to also perpendicularly park itself, not just parallel park. But it will only get you out of a parallel parking spot in auto mode, it is not fully automatic though, when you are using the self parking for parallel and perpendicular, and for getting out of a parallel parking spot, you still have to work the gas, the break and the shifter. That car does the steering, you just have to follow the directions on the screen.

German cars aren't known for their reliability, particularly of their electronics, but in general, the performance, safety, and technology (if you want it) that you get in them make up for the fault of reliability. The engine is pretty good, but as he stated, u have to really put your foot on it to pass and overtake cars at about 80 mph, with the AC on. It felt a bit top heavy for some reason, and it was practically new. The head unit display is exactly as he stated, easy to use and clear. Gas mileage wasn't that good either. I am fortunate to have a company gas card, so i started with 87, then tried the 93 octane. No big difference. Leatherette is not that bad, co workers who got in could not tell the difference. I had 2018 pathfinder previous week w/ 7 miles, and plastics still on the bumpers and wheel rims. BEST FUEL ECONOMY EVER, and i abused that as well. Just didn't like the CVT. I bought an SEL R Line Atlas. Awesome car. I opened the sunroof shade for the first time and it came apart. It has been sitting in the shop for 2 months now. VW has promised me a new vehicle but it’s taking forever. Buyers please check your sunroof before purchasing.

I didn't think the atlas was that big, but I rolled up next to it in my R51 (pathfinder) which isn't huge, but I was surprised. It's a big ole bit@h!

Ryan Williams My wife & I took one for a test drive a few days ago. I looked in the rear view mirror which made me turn around in my seat. Yes. It’s cavernous inside. I was stunned. Nice ride too.

In July 2018, I purchased a VW flagship version of Teramont 530V6 (2.5T) in Shenzhen, China. While I driving to 4000 kilometers, a brake failure was found. At the same time, I found that the engine was seriously leaking oil. The whole vehicle suddenly stopped running two times so far, You have to restart before you can drive. The problem has not been completely solved by looking for manufacturers and distributors many times. This problem brings a lot of troubles to my life, and I lose my confidence in Volkswagen. This case can be used for your reference when you want to buy a SAIC Volkswagen.

VW needs to add hybrid options, pair the v6 and/or turbo 2 with an electric motor and this thing would be legit.

I wish you would review the volume sales models for your vehicles. Most people do NOT get the top trims so the reviews are less relevant and accurate

Have already seen 3 of these in my area recently, the truck still catches me off guard when I see it however. For a moment I think "has Jeep made a bloated Grand Cherokee?"

The interior looks so clean, classy, functional, elegant. Nothing crazy. Does it have ambient lighting though? Also, this seems like a better value-priced alternative & more spacious than the Lincoln Aviator. I know they don't exactly compare size-wise & price-wise but a well-equipped to fully-loaded Reserve or Black Label trim is very expensive for a lease 😂. This would more affordable for a lease

I like the design and the space inside it's very useful for a large family but they need to make the fuel mileage more competitive and more horse power is needed, specially where I live where we have high elevation.

As I have posted in other SUV reviews, we test drove just about every mid size SUV on the market over a 3 week period, I actually avoided the Atlas because of the price point, my dumb ass somehow got the price of the Audi Q7 mixed up with the Atlas, anyways, as ever, I have to agree with Redline, this would have been an easy first choice except that VW decided to give it a gutless engine, other than that it is a great SUV, put the supercharged V6 in it or a V8 and this thing will fly off the lots....BTW we ended up going for a Volvo XC 60 T6.....A lot more money, but my lord what a great SUV.
