I have this exact model in 4-motion flavor. I like it very much. The only changes I would make would be an additional 60-80hp, vented seats, additional seat adjustments. The car is very comfortable, functional and the sound system is very good. The dash is great. I recommend this car for people who don't want or need a large boat-like SUV.

Hi, I'm shopping for a compact SUV. I'm mostly looking for good visibiliy and for the most comprehensive and complete driver assistance and security technologies. My list Is down to the 2017 Honda CRV Touring, the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL Premium 4Motion with driver assistance/tech package and finaly the 2018 Subaru Forester 2.5i Touring with EyeSight. I live in Quebec, Canada where we have a lot of snow during the winter. The canadian models are a little different and have different names. I mentionned the closest americans models as I understand it. Which one would you chose and why ? Thanks.

184hp??? That's seems fairly low for this class of SUV/Crossover, especially with a third row of passengers. Even the Atlas tops out 276hp. I'm not sure what VW's strategy is with offering 2 underpowered vehicles compared to their competition.
@samm84027 жыл бұрын
Yep.Test drove one today. Very nice vehicle except power. Struggled even in slight incline with just skinny sales man in passenger seat. 10-20 more hp would have been so nice. Quiet and less body roll in cornering. light and direct steering. very nice. Do not understand how reviewers are saying turbo always help in hilly areas and more torque helps in get up and go. With Tiguan's driving dynamics that is not the case.
@TheRTPatriot7 жыл бұрын
They put a torque converter auto transmission which does eat up on torque responsiveness. In Europe it can be equipped with a dual clutch (DSG in VW's terminology) which gives you quick responsiveness from the engine. It's a manual transmission in logic but without the clutch pedal. I think the 220hp from the GTI would be the perfect fit for the size of this SUV. But then expect VW to charge some 3k more on the sticker. Ok to put it as an option for those who need more power.

I think adding a 3rd row to an already compact SUV was an incredible poor choice on VW's part. Eliminating the third row all together would have increased cargo capacity and 2nd row passenger room while also slightly boosting fuel economy.

Hey Mike, I usually like your videos and I'm not really knocking this one because of a lot of content that it has, but why are you showing a manually operated front passenger seat when the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Sel premium version is supposed to have 8 way powered seats up front for both Seats? What's up with that?
@MikesCarInfo7 жыл бұрын
Where did you hear that? Brochure says "10-way power driver's seat" www.vw.com/content/dam/vwcom/brochures/2018/VW_MY18_Tiguan_Digital.pdf
@jerryharrison41017 жыл бұрын
Mike I watched this video again. At 5 minutes 45 seconds you are describing a manually operated passenger set in this vehicle. Did you ever find out why this Tiguan Sel Premium has a manual passenger seat? That is very puzzling and cheap as hell on the part of volkswagen.

Is it just me or the new Tiguan and Atlas look like American SUVs from 10 years ago?
@gregorytrane78287 жыл бұрын
Manpreet Singh I agree. Some of these German car companies seem to be moving from enthusiasts driving machines to Americanized fuel efficient listless and lifeless vehicles unless you go to the Audi-Porsche brands and some BMW brands. It's a sad trend in my opinion, but I guess German Corporate at these companies, feel they can sell more cars this way. My argument is if I want an Americanized version of a car, I'll buy Ametican and not the Euro-American versions.

I'm not seeing it in the specs, does the 2018 Tiguan have the auto-hold parking brake that can be used while at long stop lights? Usually there is a separate indicator button right with the electronic parking brake. I don't see one here. Thanks!
@samm84027 жыл бұрын
For US versions, no Brake hold though it has electronic parking brake. Might be becoz it has auto stop feature and its operation is required to be completely opposite to the auto Brake hold. US version have auto start and stop whereas Euro versions have auto brake hold instead.
@JonLabbe7 жыл бұрын
Sam M Lack of a parking brake hold with no cooled seats or decent storage under the trunk floor may push me elsewhere then for my next lease in April. I never thought I would say it but I'm thinking the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport top trim. It's also missing a few things that the VW has, but they are things I am more willing to live without I think.

I really enjoyed this thorough review. Beautiful vehicle. But even this turbo engine with 184 HP did not make me feel as connected to the road as the new 2017 Mazda CX-5 with 187 HP. I also felt the CX-5 was quieter and did a better job with NVH (Noise, Vibration, Handling) However, this would have been my 2nd choice over the Lexus NX or the Audi Q3. The Honda CRV and the Toyota RAV4 are so much more behind in terms of quality these days - wouldn't have purchased either one of those 2. I especially like the folding automated mirrors and the digital cockpit on this car. But I saved myself $8,000 and went with what I felt was an overall better vehicle with the Mazda.
@gerardrjj7 жыл бұрын
Most Americans talk about horsepower but the "feeling" of power when you drive comes from torque. It's the reason VW re-tuned the engine this year to put out more torque.More specifically the torque to weight ratio of a vehicle is what really matters for that "push back in the seat" sensation.

I'm sorry but I can't get excited about a SUV that cut it's horsepower to gain 2 m.p.g while instituting a now gutless engine, from the previous model 4 engine that, won ward's and other awards to it's nameplate. While the Tiquan was never in the class of the GTI or Golf R, It was always sporty and agile and fast enough for some enjoyment. That B Miller cycle engine doesn't excite me. It seems one has to go to the Golf R or GTI to get excitement and sportiness VW offers. The new Tiquan has become a Soccer Mom's SUV.
@TJBellamy997 жыл бұрын
Volkswagen is trying to appeal to consumers, not enthusiasts. Most people shopping in this category is looking for fuel efficiency, reliability, affordability and space.
@gregorytrane78287 жыл бұрын
TJBellamy99 I think that's a sad trend, if what you say is true. If I want an American version of a German car, I'll buy American. The other option is the GTI or Golf R. I know a lot of people like myself that feel let down by this newest version of this Tiquan SUV.. As a addendum, the Audi for not much more offer a better engine, driving dynamics and as good or better fuel efficiency on their engine. Something consumers like myself need to think about when purchasing our next vehicle.
@TJBellamy997 жыл бұрын
Gregory Trane Yeh I understand what you are saying....But buy a Mazda CX-5 if you want a somewhat sporty SUV.
@Quagmire887 жыл бұрын
The CX-5 is terrible performance wise. Less horsepower and torque, at the same time as not having a turbo.
