Volvo Trucks unveils highly anticipated new VNL series
Volvo Trucks North America today revealed the new Volvo VNL series, a groundbreaking tractor that meets the needs of today’s long-haul trucking customers and professional drivers through cutting-edge innovations in efficiency, productivity, safety and uptime. Available in several configurations, including an all-new, 70-inch sleeper, the Volvo VNL series defines the shape of trucks to come.
“The new Volvo VNL builds on our long-standing commitment to deliver the safest, most comfortable and most efficient long-haul truck on the market,” said Göran Nyberg, president of Volvo Trucks North America. “Infused with new innovations and technologies, we’re proud to expand upon that commitment to our current and future customers with this new design.”
Striking Exterior Design
Designers of the new Volvo VNL combined elements of Volvo’s design language with dynamic new features. Swept back headlights include signature Volvo daytime running lights and frame a bold new Volvo grille and hood. Redesigned and repositioned engine air intakes allow for less turbulent intake air delivery. Airflow up and around the cab has also been optimized with new chassis and roof fairings.
“While we wanted the new VNL to make a statement on the road, we knew that it also had to make a statement to our customers’ bottom lines” said Wade Long, director of product marketing for Volvo Trucks North America. “The incredible design elements that we’ve incorporated not only look great, but they add value for the customer. Whether it’s the sleek new bodywork that improves aerodynamics, or the new three-piece bumper that aids in repairability, every design change we’ve made has a purpose.”
Productivity-Boosting Driver, Living Environments
Productivity is directly affected by driver comfort, which is why the new Volvo VNL features an all-new dashboard which puts often-used controls within the driver’s reach. Centered in the gauge cluster is a configurable, five-inch color driver information display that provides trip and diagnostic data. The driver information display is customizable, ensuring that critical information is always available to the driver at a quick glance.
An optional infotainment system is available, featuring a seven-inch color touchscreen, navigation and an exterior back-up camera. A premium audio system is integrated with the infotainment system, which also features Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay for the ultimate in connectivity. Additional apps can be downloaded to the infotainment system as well. A dash-top tray features 12-volt power and USB connectivity to keep devices fully powered.
The new Volvo VNL is also equipped with Volvo’s smart steering wheel, putting controls for nearly all of the driver interface functions right at a driver’s fingertips. The smart steering wheel is attached to Volvo’s Perfect Position air-assisted, infinitely adjustable steering column, which enables drivers not only to tilt and telescope the steering column, but also tilt the steering wheel relative to the steering column. This lets drivers of all statures find the perfect steering wheel position and easily view the driver information display.
A wide variety of seating options are available on the new Volvo VNL series. An increase in seat travel fore and aft, as well as up and down, improves driving ergonomics. Premium features like seat heating and ventilation are also available.
“We relied on feedback from nearly 2,000 driver interviews to make sure the changes we were making aligned with drivers’ needs,” said Jason Spence, Volvo Trucks product marketing manager - long haul. “The results speak for themselves: our new VNL features the most comfortable, driver-friendly environment we’ve ever built.”
That comfort extends to the four sleeper cab configurations available in the new Volvo VNL series. Designed to provide drivers a comfortable place to rest after a long day on the road, the sleeper options are packed with a number of space-saving, comfort-boosting innovations. Additionally, an all-new, full 70-inch sleeper is available in the Volvo VNL 760 and 740 models, taking Volvo’s legendary comfort to an all-time high.
All VNL sleepers feature curved cabinets that open toward the back to maximize space, as well as an integrated, reclining bunk, which is a trucking industry first in North America. LED interior lighting reduces power consumption and provides softer lighting. A redesigned sleeper control panel allows drivers to control heating and cooling, and adjust the audio system from a more ergonomic position on the bunk. In addition, drivers can lock the doors or activate a panic alarm if needed.

What's really needed is a Quiet Running Gasoline/Propane/Hydrogen Electric Generator for ELECTRIC HEATING HEATERS In The Winters.. And ELECTRIC COOLING AIR CONDITION In The Summer MOUNTHS... These type Generators can run Constantly for at least 18+ Hours... This would Decrease Idle Times on The Engines... Reduce IN CAB EXHUST From the current Type Heater Being Used. And save Driver Both Independent and Company $1000'S In Diesel Full cost annually... Because On Average? It cost's The Average Diesel Engine Approximately $75 to $80 Dollars to run continually for a 24 Hours Period... While Gasoline Generators? Burn (On Average) 1 Gallon of Gasoline every 18 Hours... Which CAN BE MODIFIED To Operate for 24 Hours on One Gallon of Gasoline... Bring they cost of Layovers where as Drivers has to sit sometime FOR DAYS? Down to the cost of Approximately $3.00 Per Day... To remain Cool or Warm in His/Her Cab and sleeper Inside their Tractor... Allowing an estimated savings To Both The Independent and Company Driver Approximately ((( 96% PER DAY ))) in Fuel Cost savings.. (Not to mention Engine Longevity) Using only High Octane Fuel In These type Generators? Will also help the Environment... By cutting down DRAMATICALLY? Diesel Fuel Exhaust Emissions... The Results Using Hydrogen, or Propane Electric Generators for In Cab Layover Comfort? Is even better... Run The Tests VOLVO... Then let me know if Your Results Prove? Or Disprove My Findings... Then When you find that I'm 100% Correct? Contact Me... And I'll tell you what PAYPAL Account to send The Royalty Checks To... Because once These type Devices are Installed? VOLVO TRUCKS Will Assuredly Fly Off The Lots in America, And everyplace else they're being sold... LOLOLOLOL!! SLATED/POSTED ON KZbin 8/29/2017 Ccommonman80...

My Boss just purchased 2 new 860's and I am getting the new diamond blue colored truck 500 hp I shift 12 speed I could not be any happier. We are taking delivery this week and will start running freight the day after New Year's Day. He also ordered 2 new Reefer trailers I feel like I won the lottery and could not be happier. Thanks Harris I really love these new Volvo 860's and cannot wait to get out and put that machine to work it's totally awesome truck.

The problem with this truck as well as almost every other truck on the road is, they are not designed by drivers, by people who actually use these trucks for a living. Only a small percentage of the trucking industry is team operated, therefore the top bunk is useless, get rid of it and add more storage space for food, clothing, and winter supplies Etc..... What drivers really want is a truck that runs great ( better suspension), because America's infrastructure is falling apart, roads are getting worse by the month. Better power ( for pulling hills), And better storage, so that they can bring more stuff from home and make the truck feel more like an extension of their home. Most truck manufacturers either don't get it, or don't care.

Remove the bottom bunk. Stick some larger cabinets in its place with a bed on top of it. With a hanging rod. Or a larger desk/work space that slides in under when not in use. That mattress they showed looks comfy AF tho. Way better then the first one I ever had. I had to steal the mattress from the top bunk and double up just make it a tad more comfortable. Which did the bonus of changing the top bunk into a giant shelf. Using the safety netting to stop anything from sliding forward and off.

Volvo trucks has always been the limo for trucking drivers,,I drove a 670, 10 speed and loved it...my company always give us the fully, loaded trucks for comfort and safety,,,I hope that soon we will have the pleasure of driving this wonder on wheels here at this company...I am very surprise how much dedication and details Volvo puts on the drivers needs,,,from ergonomics to simple things as a cup holder,,,Bravo Volvo ,,We the truck drivers do really appreciate all these improvements when we seat for long hours behind the wheel on long hauls.......Thank you Volvo

Sorry I disagree. Some of the tech in the new Volvo's are death traps. Examples. The distance sensors in the nose. Not only doesn't the computer NOT understand safe following distances or traffic flow. It also will pick up overhead hwy signs as vehicles and give the warning. I had a Volvo slam on my brakes...mind you just the tractor brakes while going downhill on snow. Because a car cut in (will admit a lot closer then I would of like, but pulling away at the same time) Causing the trailer to jack-knife out. I was able to catch it before it got bad. But I was a hair away from going down the rest of the 6% grade at HWY speed sideways. All because of a "safety" feature.

I am also wondering how much will be this fansy New Cluster if you need to replace it since Volvo charges $950 for old type of Cluster which had 80's color range display.
