I agree with Yuri and think the Passat GT is the best looking sedan in it's class. The Camry and Accord seem to add lines and design elements just to be different (lobster claws and pointless vertical vents on the bumper). This Passat may look uninspiring to some especially on video, but in person it just has a clean, classic, restrained look that may not turn heads but will age gracefully.

That VR6 is a tune away from 300hp+ *and* is equipped with a DSG. This was imo one of the most malinformed, ignorant reviews you just come to expect from the "car community" on KZbin. It has no issues putting the power down. Imo, the only area of the car that needs work is the rear suspension and smaller wheels. 17's are better suited on this puppy than the factory 19's.

I have this exact color GT. Bought new on July 5, 2018 and love it! Premium fuel gives it extra HP, by the way. I think the power of its vr6 is underrated- this is the same motor that’s in the Atlas. It pulls! The exhaust sounds great. It’s factory lowered and comfy to drive. Definitely floats over large bumps, and steering is very light. That said, it’s my daily and I love it. If Arteon AWD came with this motor and DSG, I would switch today. Until then, I’m good.

There's science behind the non-linear speedo. The sensation of speed is non-linear. E.g. when driving in town the difference between 40 and 60 km/h is significant. It can be the difference between getting a ticket or hitting a pedestrian vs. otherwise. At autobahn speeds 200 vs. 220 km/h won't feel that different. It's the same thing that adding 50 HP to a Prius will feel dramatic but it wouldn't be nearly as noticeable when done to a Hellcat. Another reason is that most people spend their times driving in legal speeds so devoting more gauge area to that range makes the speeds more legible most of the time. BTW most V6's are 60 or 90 degrees. The VR6 is basically an inline 6 with offset cylinders.

OspreyBravo18 exactly. VW uses GT in the exact way it's supposed to. GT cars aren't a sports car, they're a grand tourer and do exactly that. Grand tourers usually prioritize comfort and handling and traveling in style. Instead of comparing this to the GTI this should've been judged on it's ability to be a grand tourer instead of being a sports car.

Traction control disable is hidden in the main car menu under the little "setting" icon on the bottom right. If you scroll down you should see the mode disable but they do not call it traction control but the little symbol is the same. It re-enables after shutting the motor off or you can reactivate it and you do get some major wheel spin down low because of the torque and that is with my 2019 Jetta's 1.4l turbo and 6 speed manual. That VR6 should do the same and get a good chirp off 2rd and maybe even 3rd. Great review...

@TheStraightPipes6 жыл бұрын
We won't do it every time because it doesn't always make sense. This one was easy because the model/options was almost identical. In most cases, they are very different and giving a USD price would be inaccurate.

Sounds good to me, thanks guys!
@Craig_Bolin6 жыл бұрын
TheStraightPipes , I was going to say the same. I often have no idea what the price would be In USD, especially for the more expensive vehicles. I then usually get distracted by clicking on another video, forgetting to convert CAD to USD. Im not the kind of American who thinks the English language is 'Murican and I dont think it's being an entitled American wanting the USD price when USD value is (mostly) known worldwide. I think Only listing the CAD is probably only beneficial to a small percentage of your global audience. Regardless I love the channel and can only assume your audience will continue to grow. PS I would love to see you guys to a Versus episode on a bunch of different older roadsters like the BMW Z3, Mazda Miata, Honda S2000, Porsche Boxster, Audi TT and Toyota MR2s. Maybe throw In a Saturn Sky too! It could be a series, and would probably get a lot of views since a lot of people look for an old roadster/sports car to autox/track with. Just make sure you include a Z3. They dont get much KZbin love.
@Lennox14925 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't give 2 shits about the flack because the only ppl who would complain about this are the liberals or social justice warriors. Funny how we Americans are considered privileged for asking about $$$ conversion but they say nothing about this video being in English instead of French.

Mine is a year old now. I installed a big rear sway bar, lighter weight wheels and better tires (sottozeros and PS4S). The exhaust has broken in and sounds even better. The VR6 has always been a legendary aggressive sounding engine. Dates back to the very early 90s in the Corrado SLC. I had a 12v 2.8L version in an old '01 GTI. The later 24v 2.8L and 3.2L versions sounded the ABSOLUTE best.

I'm about a year into owning my GT. Absolutely love it. I also drive the XSE V6 Camry, the 2.0 sport Accord, and the Mazda 6 Signature. All great cars, BUT, except for the VW, all had brand new engines (scares me). The Camry was WAY more expensive, and the Honda felt cheaper, and the grip was horrifically bad. I almost grabbed the Mazda, but the superior VW warranty and V6 won the day. I have been SUPER happy with the purchase. My only complaint is the mediocre and expensive OEM tires (got an irreparable sidewall puncture after 455 miles). Grip is mediocre, but they ride well. It's a comfortable, affordable, slightly sportier family sedan that I am not ashamed to drive co-workers around in (compared to the 05 Corolla it replaced).

It all comes to money. If the US offered the Euro Passat they'd have to charge at least $30k US for a base model and $40k for this which puts them out of the market range. Keep in mind Accord/Camry start in the low 20's here. We had the generation before this one the same as Europe really great car but they started in the high 20's 10 years ago which is like the mid 30's today. The Arteon is pretty much a fancy Euro Passat and they are bringing that over since they can get people to spend more for it since it looks different.

As a VW fanboy, I was excited about the Tennessee plant...now not so much. The north American offerings are super tough to get excited about. Honestly, the only model offered in north America that makes my heart flutter anymore is the GTI and possibly the Arteon. VW has lost its fun endearing quirkiness that made us buy them in the first place. Now they are purpose built to be plain. Please VW, at least give us the option to purchase the Euro models, even at a higher price.
@51StPi6 жыл бұрын
The Euro models are going off, torsion beam suspension, going full touch screen and losing the volume knob, meanwhile they getting more chrome on the bumpers and the dash.
@zebracherub6 жыл бұрын
Not gonna lie, as an European, even the Euro models kind of suck. They're all the same small gas engines / 2.0 diesel. All the cool stuff like the Phaeton and the Touareg are either discontinued or lost what made them interesting. As you said, only the Arteon is kind of interesting, and I'll add to that the Amarok, which surprisingly has ditched the 2.0 4 cylinder diesel and now only comes with a 3.0 V6 diesel, and is one of the rare pickup trucks sold in Europe that can be a "luxury/family" pickup, since all the other pickups are either heavy duty work orientated, or recreational off roading.
@zebracherub6 жыл бұрын
Not really about the pickups. Remember, in Europe, your average pickup truck is a Hilux or a Navara (which is a Nissan Frontier). Except the Amarok and the new Mercedes X Class (which is a rebagded Navara), I can't think of any luxury orientated pick up trucks. The Ford Ranger, even in the Wildtrak trim, is orientated towards off-road performance. The Nissan Navara was, during a month or so, offered with a V6 and a "higher" trim at a ridiculous price, nobody ever bought those. Otherwise, in the other trims, which are mainly commercial/work trims, these are extremely popular and the Navara is the 2nd most sold truck where I live. The Toyota Hilux is marketed for heavy duty work. The Isuzu D-Max is marketed for heavy duty work. Even the new Renault Alaskan (which is again, a rebagded Navara) is marketed towards commercial use. The Fiat Fullback/Mitsubishi L200 (they're the same) is no where near a luxury pickup. There is a reason why in Europe all those trucks (except for the Amarok and the X Class) are sold by the commercial/professional branch of those major brands. There is a reason why imported Dodge RAMs are popular with people who want to tow boats and bring their families along, and there is a reason why people go through the hassle and cost of importing brand new F150s Platiniums when they can buy 2 or even 3 Hiluxs with the money. Regarding about the engines, I am talking about how widespread the MQB platform and its engines are. From the Golf to the Tiguan, the platform and the engine options are the exact same.

The only thing I don’t like is that there is no analog clock in the dashboard (as in my ‘14 Passat). I do appreciate the full LED head and tail lights. Personally I have never complained about the steering column. On the other hand, I do agree that the infotainment screen is a little bit to low in the dashboard, as well as the seats being a little bit to flat and not having enough bolstering. Also, every car with dark/black headliner is gangsta cool 😎 👍🏼. And I don’t know about Canadian market, but the US 2018+ volkswagens get the 6yrs/72k Miles bumper-to-bumper warranty, so that is always a plus. Overall, I love this car.

Passat in America sucks compared to the European and Asian Passat. The Passat in Germany is super high tech and modern looking with auto pilot features and full digital cockpit, and we have this super cool Passat since 2014.... Like wtf

Ben Godenrath u guys also get the Hyundai IN 30 , we dont get it here :(
@Jokero_YT5 жыл бұрын
Haha full laggy digital cockpit! VW can bring all those to the US but nobody is crazy enough to pay 48k for a Passat because it has some toys, get real. And the Chinese Passat is just funny, no need to mention it.

I got one of these. Put a big rear sway bar on, lightweight wheels and better tires... It fixes most of these guys concerns. Even steering is slightly more weighty with "grippy" tires.

I always though the Passat should have the 2.0T from the GTI, not the VR6. What ruined this generation Passat to me was they put that terrible 2.5 I5 in it originally and those halogen headlights/taillights, no HIDs were even offered until recently. It's such a boring car!

@nickbuccini75356 жыл бұрын
There is no "stage 2" on the 3.6. You can get a tune and intake which would be "stage 1" but anything past that is completely custom... And stupidly expensive.

Because the last time they tried to sell the Euro version of the Passat in the US, they could hardly give them away.

Stephen Hendricks I don't know about last time but this time it should be fairly easy
@stephenhendricks1036 жыл бұрын
Neo Sorry, but major manufacturers based their product planning on extensive market research focused on what consumers want to buy, not on what self-selected "enthusiasts" post on the internet. If there were a major demand for sedans among American consumers Ford wouldn't be exiting the market, altogether.

I think this car is highly underrated... id love to have a vr6. It should be a bit quicker than my ‘14 gli, and my GLI needs some sticky tires to keep it from slipping like the GT does with the contipro tires

Doesn't even deserve the vr6 engine... They should transfer the engine to the golf :p
@mbrunnme6 жыл бұрын
?? The Golf R32 had the VR6 engine before they developed the EA888 with big turbo and reworked internals that it has now. The four banger has more power and a wider, flatter powerband. Dropping a VR6 into it would be going back a decade. Sounds good but slower with worse fuel economy.
@ewwmin3m6 жыл бұрын
I know, but I would've liked to see a new modern iteration of the VR6 in the type R; indeed with a turbo or a supercharger... modern VW don't excite me as the r32 did :-/
