2019-2021 Acura RDX How to Change the Oil and Oil Filter

I love how Honda idiot proofs basic maintenance for the beginner diyer. After working on a beemer 3 series for a few years, all I can say is, it sucked. German cars are a blast to drive, but they are not mechanically user friendly, glad to be back, I sure missed having an Acura in the garage. It’s my wife’s car, I went with a Tacoma, basic maintenance from an oil change to spark plugs, everything is easily accessible, and you can do most repairs with a metric socket set and a screwdriver, oh and some torx bits. By the way, the video was easy to follow, I was expecting an oil change a bit more involved with an RDX with the addition of a turbo, thank you Honda.

Great video! A lil advice. Those oil filter clamps are terrible. Only purchase oil cap socket tools. Especially is something goes wrong nd you need to remove it. It WILL get crushed every time with that tool.

My 2021 RDX took almost 6 us quart to fill all the way to the top line of the dips stick.

Just installed a fumoto drain valve ona 2021 civic and this oil change looks pretty much the same, will order another valve to avoid having to remove that plug and not make a mess

How often shld that be done? I have 10k on mine. Us poor souls that got the leaking rear main seal defect. Acura owes us all!. Oil fumes coming in cabin on all rdx,tlx and ilx!! And small oil residue on fly wheel cover! Ive had 3 rdx, 3 tlx and 2 ilx all same thing!!!

@omeeangg great video! I see in your list you put multiple Honda oil filter models. I purchased the model 15400-RTA-003 but when I got my delivery they sent me 15400-PLM-A02. Can I use the 15400-PLM-A02 for my 2020 Acura RDX AWD?!? The rep at the store kept telling me the A02 will work even though all oil filter filters say they wont. Thank You in Advance! 🙏

It is doable depending on how big you are. I am a smaller guy and I think I can do it without jacking up the car.

I believe the procedure for the oil change on the 2022 model should be the same. I am not sure about resetting the maintenance minder.

how many miles did you have when you did your first oil change for this rdx? Some say 1K to 1.5K.

That RDX had 5000 miles. Some "older" mechanics say that you should change the first thousand miles because of break in period . Others say that there are additive in the oil when it came from the factory. I just follow the manufacturer recommended interval.

The manufacturer recommends this based on the Acura Maintenance computer. It calculates your own oil change interval based on driving habits. I just got a new RDX and it seems like it's gonna want me to change it at appox 5k miles. So, I'll be changing it at appox 4k miles to be a bit more conservative.

My maintenance minder keeps bugging me about being 500 miles past due for oil change. I've only driven 3k miles since my last one. Would it be risky for me to try to reset the reminder for another 1000 miles?

for the RDX, I would used 91 at Chevron, Pennzoil Ultra Plantinum 0W-20 and Honda/Acura brand oil filter.

@@OEMEangg hey wait here who are you? Hi and hello from canada! Why the honda filter i have a mobil 1 filter as im abt to chamge an leave for the winter. Usually with vehicles i like the cheap filters as it wont restrict flow, im no expert bit elighten me if you know! Mike

If you want the best of the best, amsoil is the best, never looked back, plus their filters filter more than those cheap ones

Extensive testing by Projectfarm, Amsoil #1, Redline #2, best value is Pennzoil Ultra Platinum #3, the rest are all still better than any conventional oil.

The manual says 0w20, anyone using say 5w30 in hotter climates? That 0w20 is only good to around 78 degrees Fahrenheit, then it loses its lubrication properties per every online viscosity chart not tied to an owners manual.

Oil operating temperature is ~220F, and 0W20 lubricates just fine.

If only the Honda engineers who designed the engine had consulted you about oil. It amazes me how some people think they are more knowledgeable about the operation of an engine than top automotive engineers. But hey, it's your car, use whatever you want.
