Great notes. As far as the exhaust goes, consider this: I don’t want a loud exhaust on my daily driver, save that for the bikes and old cars. I dont want to attract cops and annoy my neighbors. I just want to drive quietly and quickly (ehh, sometimes very quickly) without attracting attention. Aftermarket exhaust is probably the biggest waste of money if looking for increased performance. (Unless a project car, and then better to just buy a Quad) High quality summer tires are the absolute most bang for your buck, and then maybe a mild tune. Anything more, and just buy a (again) a Quad. At the end of the day, you’ll be dollars (and smiles) ahead.

I leased a 2017 Giulia (which I just traded in a few months ago right before the lease was up). I agree with: Panic button - way too sensitive; Turn signals - definitely take some getting use to; Backup camera - poor quality, low resolution, almost useless. I didn't have a problem with my tires, mine came with Pirelli P7 Cinturato's and had awesome grip and handling. My particular car was somewhat of a lemon though. Over the 3 yr period, it was in and out of the shop for mechanical / computer problems many, many times. It spent a total of about 3 1/2 months time in the shop. Way too much for a new car which by the end of the lease only had 15K miles on it. The mechanic at the dealership even told me my car was an outlier and other owners didn't have as many issues as I had. But he told me that later models such as the 2018's and 2019's were much improved and didn't have any of the problems I had. Otherwise when the car worked, I absolutely loved driving it. I would even consider going back to a Giulia in the future. I loved the look and feel of it, how it handled the road, the ability to carve corners, the power delivery and shifts were smooth. Mine was red with red interior.
@CarVisionLA4 жыл бұрын
Wow, red on red is such a nice color! The 2017s I think had the most reliability issues because they were the first model year and the manufacturers are still working out flaws. They able to spot and fix them in subsequent iterations.

Just purchased a 2019..love the car... the items listed here are spot on. As it does have some quarks... I wish it had a way to simply keep the butterfly valves open as on cold start. That would be enough for me. One design option I absolutely love - is how you can pull the wiper blade arms - simultaneously, allowing you to properly clean the windshield. As there is nothing more annoying that having to battle with wiper arms when cleaning. Another complaint I do have, is how the camber provides a very steering fell when turning. I do realize it is designed to provide the quick response in steering (which I love) - but when turning the wheels - it chops, and it just feels odd. Almost similar to when you would turn an old school 4x4 full size truck with manual front lock outs and the CV joints would bind. Moreover, I wish the alarm had a nice chirp vs., the horn blaring... And my final complaint is how low the front diffuser is. It looks fantastic, but the curve(s) on the edge will rub... I have installed skid plates to protect it. But without lowering the car, I am very surprised that the front lower lip scraps as much as it does. As I am an extremely careful driver that knows how to cradle crawl a sharp incline / decline as well as speed bumps. Nothing is perfect...perse.... and this car has such great styling and handling - that the goofiness - is easily overlooked.

Once I started buying cars that feel good to me, the path of true satisfaction opened. We have had Peogeot, Honda, Ford, four Volkswagens and two Alfas. You mention the indicator lights bother you. It may well be that the USA versions are different than mine, in Europe/TheNetherlands. As in the Dutch owner manual, slightly pushing the indicator handle up of down will activate the so called "lane change". The indicator lights will flash 3 times left or right and then stop flashing! No need to just slightly push them in the oposite direction to stop earlier, just be patient. If this is different in the US versions it is surely possible to have your dealer change this to the European way unless there is a motoring law in the US preventing this. Else, as often RTFM. 😎

I have 2022 Giulia with Pirelli run flats and America's Tire pulled a screw out of the right front and repaired it yesterday. Guess it depends on the location. When it's time to replace them I'll get the P7's again but not run flats. I'm fine with exhaust note in the cabin and outside the car, I really don't care what it sounds like. The low res rear camera is actually better than the Honda Accord Sport the Alfa replaced...but I don't rely on it much anyway. Haven't had panic button issues with the key fob yet but sure did with the Honda. Turn signals took some getting used to but it make sense now. That lane maintaining button on the stalk is easy to engage accidentally and the warning volume is way too loud and not adjustable far as I can tell. Perhaps it works like the navigation and is controlled by the radio volume knob when the voice is speaking. Absolutely love the car, especially on the mountain roads where I learned to drive so many years ago.

I own a 2019 Giulia too. You can change those Japanese tires for Pirelli P-Zero summer tires. My car came with the staggered 19" wheels and P Zeros and it handles fantastic! And they are run flats, but they are really great tires. You can fit 255/40/18 on the back of your 18" wheels. I have done it on my 2017 Giulia, which I traded in on the 2019. I agree the backup camera sucks. As does the exhaust note. I also have set off my panic button. These are great cars, far better than anything I've owned from Audi, BMW and Mercedes before. (and I've owned a ton of cars). Keep enjoying your car but rush out to buy a set of P Zero Pirelli's. Italian car/Italian tires. The Michelin P4 are good, but they don't grip like the new P Zeros. They don't stop as good either.

@@CarVisionLA BTW...Alfa dealerships now sell OEM logo floor mats in either white or red lettering that say GIULIA on them for the front carpets. $120. Well worth it. They are factory fit and look terrific. If you get the Pirelli tires, you can use a tire ink pen (red) and color in the PIRELLI logo on the tires. That looks incredible as well. I located the small Italian flag badge that comes on the 2020 models, right behind the shifter. They are for sale on ETSY for $8 from Italy. I know a ton of this stuff to trick out your Giulia. :)

I agree with the complaint about the turn signals. Very annoying. The others don't bother me, but what does is: 1) the A/C vent placement - the A/C vents are in an awkward place that can't direct air to your face. If you try to aim at your face, the air is blocked by your arms. 2) lack of space in the cabin. - granted this car is a little smaller than my previous Nissan Maxima, but the Maxima had WAY more room in the center console, the glove box and just overall room in the car. The Alfa seems very cramped yet it is not a tiny car on the outside. 3) The automatic door unlock feature is WAY too sensitive. I like that the doors will unlike if I just put my hand in the handle, but I have also had the doors unlock while washing the car. Apparently just touching the door with a sponge without even touching the door handle will trigger the unlock feature. It must have happened at least 5 times while just trying to hand wash the car. 4) Poor throttle response at low speeds/from stop. I get that a 4 cyl. turbo is going to have some lag. And the overall power is pretty good, but acceleration is often terrible from a stop or low speed. Sometimes there seems to be a lag of a second or so before anything at all happens. Pulling out into traffic can be stressful when you stomp on the pedal and the car barely moves at all.

I saw one 2018 Giulia AWD with 42k miles with a price tag of a bit less than $23k. Want to test drive it and check it out. One thing that really stops me is the quality. The car is fresh at the moment, so there shouldn't be any major issue, but what about when it has more miles down the road?
@durwoodrobison78008 ай бұрын
On my 2019, it took me approximately 30 seconds to adjust to the turn signals, and the cruise control is equally sensitive between increase/decrease 1mph vs 5mph. I agree the rear camera could be better, but it's not a "hate" thing since this is the first car I've daily driven that even has a backup camera. I did find the decision to squish Android Auto down to half the screen to be an odd choice too, but again, I'm looking down the road more than at the screen, so I can't say I "hate" it.

I own the 2018 Giulia and I 100% agree that the turn signal stock is an annoying POS! I also agree that the exhaust sound could be improved but that is minor. What is really uncharacteristic for a sports sedan is the light steering and lack of feel. Also the steering wheel is too thin for a modern sports sedan. I used to own a 2001 BMW 3 series and it had a much meatier steering feel. It felt like I was riding on rails - very planted where I pointed. It felt substantial. Heck, my 2014 Mercedes CLA had better steering feel even though it was FWD! I don't have a problem with the rear view camera - hey, at least it has trajectory lines! 280 HP is just right for the price. Other than those, the Giulia is hands down the sexiest sedan out there!

I now have the Stelvio AWD and also love it. The backup camera does suck compared to others but I tend to not rely on it so does not matter. The Run Flats might not be the best from a performance standpoint, but from a convenience standpoint, thats kind of the point.
@toddtankersley29592 жыл бұрын
I think what he was referring to is the poor ride quality of run flats in general. As I wish all cars came with a midsize spare. I dislike run flats for a variety of reasons. As a regular sport tire feels so much better. Run flats are so hard they help facilitate bent wheels along with the harmonic feedback. Eg it feels like a tire is out of balance. When it actually vibration from road contact. Lastly, never in a MILLION years (even with run flats) would I drive the car (with a flat).. So in time I will replace with continentals conti sport (best tires ever) "in my opinion" and I will carry a full-size spare in my trunk.

@MartinGar043 жыл бұрын
Well you actually can repair them. They tell you they can't to sell you another. LOL I got a flat on one and was punctured with a rebar. Took it to patch at a shop that patch tires on 18wheelers. Had my tire patch already for 3yrs already and nothing bad has happened. Yes I have drove it over 145mph and my tire has worked perfectly. NOTE: I drove my car on that flat tire for 5 miles at 30mph to get home and take the tire off. Don't drive 50-60 that's dangerous. And of course avoid going even 30mph over railroad crossing or any patch street.

Learned that the hard way lol. I’m just gonna replace the set because the tires really hold this car back in my opinion.

For any Alfa to sound so muted is sad. It's not the engine, that's for sure. It's the pipes. They dropped the ball on that end. Every other point made above is spot on. Nearly all of us have to deal with these issues, especially the turn signal tango.

Its a small pain but not that bad. Its like other turn signals tbh in the case that lets say you making two left lane changes and u got music up, you might have the turn signal on for the first lane change but somehow it turned off by the second lane change without u realizing it. Or the opposite you b sitting at a light and notice your blinker is still on. Normal turn signal issues from driver’s error/lack of attention

@@kingchakazulu7762 I wasn't talking about back-up cameras. On some Italian cars you can barely even see out the rear even if you look in that direction. I haven’t got mine yet. I’ve just been looking for a used set. A new one from the dealership would be so expensive lol. You can usually find one on craigslist or offerup but make sure it’s OEM. I’m not sure if the standard QV wheels will fit on a regular Giulia since they are pretty wide and the QV has flared fenders. They do make QV-style wheels for the regular cars which will fit better.

I was in love with my Giulia and Alfa Romeo as a brand, however, I will never again buy/recommend another Alfa Romeo in my life. I had the brake by wire system fail on me and it caused me to crash and total the car. They sent someone from Bosch to diagnose the vehicle and in the charts it clearly showed that something malfunctioned (brakes were slammed 2 seconds before the impact at 40 MPH and it took more than 1.5 seconds for the speed to start going down.) Stellantis told me that they were not going to take responsibility for it and that I needed to have my insurance pay for the vehicle. Absolute garbage. I will never recommend this car brand to anyone again! Buy an AUDI, BMW or Mercedes instead.
