2019 Audi A1 Review

I just bought an A1 Sline 30tsi as a commuter car for work. I travel long distances up the motorway every day and I wanted a small car that handled and parked like a supermini in the city but felt like a larger car on motorways. I think this car delivers and its more comfortable and planted than a mini. I chose this car over the cheaper Polo mostly because of its superior interior. It’s a nice place to be and again feels like a bigger car behind the wheel. Some gripes straight off are the fact that keyless entry and ignition do not come come as standard and the automatic gearbox is a bit clunky and slow off the mark. My keys are constantly banging off my knee (just like in a vw golf) and id like the car to move away quicker from the lights. I forgot to add the drive select option, but not sure what difference it would have made. The blindspot from the back pillar is also annoying when changing lanes. Otherwise I’m enjoying the car and its exactly what I wanted for day the day use. I don’t see a huge market for this car but perhaps other people will recognise that its a good looking small commuter car and a nice alternative to a Golf Comfortline that would cost around the same price. Saying that the new Golf mk8 has some nice tech as standard.

Was considering getting this but compared to the A3 the A3 has option of Sunroof . The extras cost a lot . Is that where the dealerships make money from the extras

Audi A1 is a nice car, Only question I have got every one tells us that 1.4 or 1.5 tfsi model has cylinder on demand technology which is one of the best engines which I agree But On what speed this engine shuts the two cylinder off and is there a way to find out if the car is running on 4 cylinders or two. Out of all small sector this is one of the coolest car and rest assure you can haggle or even look at pre reg or x demo to save yourself bit of money. Nice video if you can reply to my question about the cylinder on demand I would really appreciate it as most 4 cylinder VW engines has this technology. Just want to know how to determine if you are running on two or 4 cylinders etc.. Great car out of all small car in this class and I am sure others will bring their cars to make theirs better later too so nothing bad at all. Thank you

Love the look but the price is too high given the power levels

The 40 TFSI is much quicker and performs more like a hot-hatch in my opinion.

This is my car. The steering wheel is actually a bit stiff. My old Audi A3 had a feather light steering wheel

I am tempted to get one with the 2.0 liter and 17 or 18 inch wheels... But how is it for long trips? Some people say this has an insane amount of road noise in highway driving making it unconfortable for long journeys and that it is overly hard on uneven roads. Can you tell me if it is true?

@@mosquiton001 I have not experienced any noise. It is a nice car except that the steering wheel feels slightly stiff compared to my old Audi A3. I must add that my current A1 car @ 1.5 litre feels powerless compared to my old Audi A3 which was 1.8 litre. If you are going for 2.0 litre A1, you should be alright with the power. In terms of noise, you should be okay at least with the petrol model. I have always used petrol model cars.

@@papsk Good! Do you have the 17 or 18 inch wheels on your model? How about the ride harshness on uneven road? (I come from a golf 6 wich was super confy) :D

@@mosquiton001 Yes it does have 18 inch alloy wheels. My car is exactly the same as you see in this video. Same colour as well

@@mosquiton001 I have 18 inch alloy wheels. My car is exactly the same as shown here. No harshness while riding but 1.5 litre definitely feels as though it lacks enough power. I used to drive a Golf too !!!

Great review as always. The new A1 has lost something from the first generation fastback. It doesn't look prestige at all.
