This is a very nice bike and I like how you’ve put some of your own personal touches to it. I had a Corbin seat that was hard as a rock. When I bought the bike used I told salesman that’ll be first think I change. He said before you do ride it for awhile. I did just that. We went on trips and put on 1000’s of miles. Most comfortable and supportive seat I ever owned. When I traded bike off it wouldn’t fit on new bike. I should’ve bought one for new bike but never did.

That's good to hear. I'm not a long distance rider - typically out for an hour or two then back, so I'm hopeful it gets a bit more comfortable over time. Thanks for watching and for the info.

Great video! Loved it and took some great idea from it. I just bought 2020 B (I did rode 2018 B for 2 long distance rides but it was rental - New out of the box) and wanted to see the must (like the rear guard), the improvement and the good to have and your Bike / video has it all.I still did not find seat I like (I like the stock seat, so maybe I will just change the color of it) Thank you for the video!

Nice overall review of all your mods. That's a sweet bike. I test rode a couple different K1600 during BMW Demo Days. I currently have an R1250 RS and love that torquey boxer engine. However, the smoothness of that K is amazing. It was like riding on a cloud. Enjoy and safe journeys to you.
@Josh23913
@Josh23913 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. The 1250 is also super cool. I was looking at the new R 1300 GS but found a good deal on a 2018 Fat Boy 114. It’s significantly different from the BMW so it’s nice to have two very different rides. Ride safe 👍.

@@Josh23913 Wow, those are very different rides for sure. What are a few pros and cons of the K1600? Although I did test ride them a couple times those were only about 20 minute rides not enough time to really reveal the pros and cons. I was toying with the idea of getting an R18 Bagger. To be my different ride from my RS.

I am 5'11" and do not feel cramped. I must admit that sometimes the leg-back position can get a little uncomfortable. But switching to the forward foot boards resolves that issue. Not sure how much difference 2" would make. Hopefully you can do a test ride to find out.

Nice job. I just received the Ilium side covers for my K16GT. Also have the Grip Buddies. I’ve purchased a number of parts from Wunderlich. Bar riser, lift handle, oil cooler guard, etc. BMW foot peg lowering kit. I’m 6’ 2”. Akropovic pipe. DK shift kit. Cuts the throw. And the biggest improvement....an RDL seat.
@gregfleenor9654
@gregfleenor9654 3 жыл бұрын
You would love the RDL. Pricey but worth it. And they do charge more if not the stock pan. The Corbin may hold a slight appearance advantage but the RDL is by no means ugly. And it is easily a better seat than the Corbin.

What a great video full of very interesting upgrades. I too have a K1600B GA. You’ve given me lots of great ideas. On my bike on day 1, I added a large V Technic windscreen. I’m 5’9” and large windscreen has always been my preference over bugs. Full, clear and excellent visibility through the screen and air when I want it by lowering the screen and deploying the hydraulic fly by wire side vents. :) This is my third V Technic. Two on my previous K1200. LOVE this shield in every way except cleaning needs to be done gently with only micro fibre cloth as it get fine scratches easily. I had never considered changing saddles until I saw this. What a classy look! I’ve never met anyone that does not love their Corbin Seat. I just has a 400 mile day and was wishing I had a back rest. On a 4500 mile West/Northwest coastal trip, my stock inferior peg rubbers came off frequently, (standing under 35 mph is my preferred way to stretch and limber up). A handy friend modified a pair of aggressive dirt BMW Adventurer spring loaded to stay down foot pegs, no slip, wider deeper and really a very stable way to stand while rolling. High function over attractiveness but they’re awesome. I never knew those nice side 6 covers were available, a new must have for me. I too have those side bag guards from the same company, money well spent. I also added a side stand widener from them. No more worrying about using the side stand almost anywhere except very soft sand. My most enthusiastic find has been my tires. The originals factory B stones were terrible. Rough ride, poor handling and 3500 miles both front and back were cupped and worn out. Went to Metzeler RoadTech 1 HM (heavy motorcycle). 6000+ miles F&B with sport bike handling, touring comfort and amazing traction. Thanks for the well done and informative content. Have you discovered how to reduce the glare on the navigation screen?
@Josh23913
@Josh23913 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Clayton, thanks for watching the video and for your comments. Regarding the nav screen, I honestly haven't noticed a glare, but then again, I'm not using it extensively. They do make anti glare screen sheets that can be cut to size. Not sure if it would help but maybe something to check in to. Regards :)

Nice additions to your bagger. I don't own a BMW K1600 yet but am considering purchasing one, since I retired a year ago, but I've had trouble finding videos that show what types of accessories are available. If I buy one, it'll likely be a K1600 GTL because I'd like to do some long distance touring. I like the idea of the shifter extension and the foot boards. Probably reduces foot fatigue on longer trips and is more comfortable as well. I see you put links to most of these products in your video's description and I'll certainly take a look at some of the products. Thanks for the well put together video!

@@Josh23913 Dave, I’ve own a couple of touring bikes, a Yamaha 750 and 1100 and put foot pegs on both of them. Might be moving to the East Coast in the next couple of years and will definitely look at the BMW then.

@@Josh23913 No worries. Watched all the way thru. In terms of the windshield how much does it help with the side to side wind buffeting? I probably go a bit faster than you on the freeway based on your admission of speed on the side wings. When I approach a big rig within about 50-75 yards the wind buffet/wobble is ridiculous on most occasions compared to my R1200RT I used to own. The RT cust thru wind like a hot knife thru butter. Thoughts?

Hi Dave.....thanks for taking the time to make this video👍. I am looking to move back to 2 wheels after a few years on 3 wheels (new hip now). I’m a taller rider (6’6”), and having sat on a 1600B out here in Aus, I believe it provides the best option for me, albeit with the Ilium lower foot boards, handlebar risers (possibly even the new handlebars I have seen without the centre bar), taller screen and a Daylong seat that would be a bit longer and higher than stock. I’ll probably also go with the heel shift as well, all long as I can fit the size 15s in there. The 15s are an issue with the stock peg and the brake, as the peg puts my boot toe hard up against the bodywork. Without your video I wouldn’t even have known about Ilium, and would have given up on the B. From what I can see, you have no “showstopper” issues with any of the Ilium gear you have bought?

When I had my HD Heritage I had a heel shifter, but found that I never really used it. On the K1600B, if I'm using the forward foot rests I find it easy to swing my foot back to do a quick shift from 5th to 6th, but I typically use the lower foot boards while I'm up or down shifting. I feel more stable in that position.

That said trade in value will be in near future and with a BMW Dealer right down the street I am strongly considering the K1600B. I'm retired and my Harley weighs over 900 lbs. At a stand still and moving it around that weight makes a beast to handle. I hit your subscribe button, Hopefully you will give that info. I want a machine that has a windshield and tunes. After 300ish miles my stock GTL seat starts really bothering my butt. After 700 miles I'm in PAIN on it. I have a Corbin low rise on my KLR-650, and love it but with that being said, I think that I'm going with a Russel Day Long on the GTL.

Hi Dave, I've done several of the same upgrades, and have a few questions on the ones I'm still considering if you don't mind: 1. Corbin seat - has it broken in yet after a summer of riding? Better than stock for you? 2. Filling tank with bar backs - do you put the nozzle thru the gap in the bar? Looks like getting the nozzle under would be difficult. 3. Lowering floor boards - shift extender looks in a much better spot as is, how about the rear brake? Did you adjust the brake lever position? Thanks again Dave, really enjoy your videos :-) Andrew

Outstanding video and super-informative, Dave! I've purchased many of the accessories you feature here. Two questions: 1) do you know if the Gerbing 12V port and the Hotwired battery connector would work for Warm & Safe brand of heated gear? 2) to install the Mo-Door opener on the bike's panel, does the plastic tip detach/reattach from the activation button easily? I assume that's the approach to get it mounted properly. Thanks again for an awesome video!

Nicely done! I have the same bike... even the Monolith paint. There are only 50 Bs with this paint. I have some of the same mods you do, and you have some that I would like to do. The seat is very intriguing as I ride solo too and could use the 1" rise.

Dave, thank you for your video. I too bought a Corbin Saddle for my 2021 K1600B and was surprised to find the different seat heat connectors. I like what you show in the video but there are 3 wires on mine, not 2. Did you omit one of them, or did I miss something? Can you please direct me to the connectors and taps you used, including their sizes? I would really appreciate your guidance.
@Josh23913
@Josh23913 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Davryn, thanks for watching. The Corbin Smuggler seat only had two wires, likely because it is a "solo" seat. If the Corbin you purchased is a two-up seat, the third wire is likely for the passenger seat area. If that is the case, you can still do what I did, or you might be able to purchase the stock BMW seat connector and create a cable that attaches directly to the bike connector - that would be ideal. I provided a link to the posi-taps and connectors I used in the video description. If you need a three-wire connector, you can search Amazon for "HIGHROCK 5 Kit 3 Pin Way Car Waterproof Electrical Connector Plug with Wire AWG Marine". That one should work well.

Hi Greg. Here's a link to what I used for the panier protection. It's actually a Kawasaki Ninja fuel tank grip panel, but the shape worked out pretty well for my purpose (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DVOVMEK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I had to keep applying pressure on certain points for a few days until the adhesive really took hold. But after that and a few years later I've not seen any lifting.

Hey Gary. Thanks for watching. I came from a series of Harleys, and couldn’t be happier switching to this BMW. I did a test ride on a 2018 K1600B and it was a blast. The 19s were out so went with that, but would have been just as happy with the 18. Do a test ride first if you can, but I don’t believe you’ll be disappointed.

This is a very informative video, based on the information you’ve provided I am thinking of purchasing the ear buds by Tozo, the question I have is can you answer a phone call? I understand it is good for music etc but I wonder if it would pick up my voice while unswerving a call. Thank you
@Josh23913
@Josh23913 10 ай бұрын
I've never tried using the phone during a ride. I would think that the combination of wind and engine noise, plus the muffled acoustics inside the helmet, would make the audio on the other end pretty bad. In my opinion, if you expect to be using the phone during a ride, you might be better off going with a Cardo PackTalk system that has a separate microphone positioned in front of your mouth. But the audio quality for music will not be nearly as good. Thanks for watching!
