Mine does this. You can reset it by disconnecting the battery after the vehicle is shut off with the fan running. This always happens when the seasons change

I've been having this issue with my truck. So your saying when the truck is off, but the fan is still running, disconnect the battery and thay resets the sensor?
@larry03235 ай бұрын
Always is a generalized concept. Had mine since '19 and this is the first time it's happened. Not saying your fix doesn't work; but "always happens"???

On installation of the new one "BE CAREFUL NOT TO!!!!!" over tighten the sensor, if so it can brake leaving the threaded piece of the sensor inside (the intake?). "if this happens remove that broken piece carefully using an "easy out tool" being extra careful not to damage the thread and if your lucky the new replacement will fit in snug without leaks.

Just pick one up at my local Chevrolet dealership fingers crossed did that fix the issue cuz it happened to me last night first my AC quit blowing then my fan wouldn't shut off That's when I realized my temp gauge was showing nothing I disconnected the battery reconnected after 10 seconds everything seems to be working now but I went and got the sensor just in case
@kevR9261Ай бұрын
Did you have to drain the coolant to do this? Also, you can get a cheap obdii scanner and clear the code, while driving even, but I am getting tired of doing that.
@joshkolakoff3144Ай бұрын
@@kevR9261 a little bit of the coolant came out, but not an incredible amount. Once I replace the sensor and cleared, the code has not come back.

How do i know if it needs to be the sensor vs the thermostat replaced. Fan stays on and temp gauge stays at 160. A/C won’t blow cold. I figure thermostat is stuck open but if I’d like to know if it’s just the sensor or if i need to replace thermostat. Is there a quick way to know which is causing my issue? Thanks.
@joshkolakoff31446 ай бұрын
It’s difficult because they give similar symptoms. In my case it was the sensor. The thermostat isn’t cheap but the sensor is fairly inexpensive. It might be a good idea to just change them both and be done with it.
@mmaxon8886 ай бұрын
Thermostat stuck open is mechanical issue. Temp sensor is electrical - the fan stay on to prevent any overheating as the computer doesn't know what the coolant temp is, just as a defense mechanism. I also got an engine light. Thermostat stuck open can cause your engine to not warm up forever, or even overheating in rare cases. The coolant has to have time in the radiator to cool. If thermo is stuck open, it can pass through to fast and you'll have a hot running engine. After replacing the temp sensor and driving several miles, the engine light went out on its own since there was no longer an issue.

Would your temperature gauge read 160 at times and stay there for a while cause my fans stay on even after truck is off i got a 2020 Canyon v6
@joshkolakoff31449 ай бұрын
Sounds like the thermostat. I couldn’t find it at a parts store. The dealer had it for $175. I finally got it on Amazon. I could only find it with the housing.
@mmaxon8886 ай бұрын
That's exactly a faulty temp sensor, not a bad thermostat.
@ulisesgonzalez47406 ай бұрын
hello. You explain how to remove the temperature sensor, but could you explain how you can install the number. I was able to remove mine but I can't tighten it and I wouldn't want to put any tension on it because I could damage the thread.
@mmaxon8886 ай бұрын
@@ulisesgonzalez4740 It doesn’t go straight down in. It’s tilted a little bit towards the passenger side. You have to get one finger on it from the top and another from the front to get it started.

The thermostat itself can give similar symptoms. It’s not cheap but I would change it if you are already doing the sensor.

Your sensor is shot. Like this Josh says, replace both since you're in there. Spark plugs and intake gaskets are also an easy target.

I used a long screwdriver and long needle nose. There is a small retainer that has to be flipped up with the screwdriver on one side of the harness before it will pull away.

@@joshkolakoff3144 Yeah, the little retainer was, of course, of the back side of mine. I have a couple of pick tools and used a curvy one to unlock it. When I tightened the new sensor the lock was the opposite way, easy for next time!
