I was told the Malibu Hybrid you mention as having standard safety features has been discontinued for 2020.

Hmm...I still have 2020 Hybrid on the internal locate system with GM but it doesn't return any actually produced or allocated. The catalog doesn't mention it either but they definitely made a point to mention it on their "what's new for 2020" reference guide. You may be correct, GM may have changed their mind on production

Good question! Two different platforms really. Malibu and Equinox are more comparable on overall size, space, features, cost, etc. I like SUV's and would take the Equinox over the others. But if the budget is coming down to Trax/Malibu, I'd take a Malibu.
