I think the 124 is slightly better looking than the Miata of the same year, and I love Miatas.

It does look much better than ND especially in the rear. I dislike ND's rear end alot. 124 looks exsctly how ND rear end should be.

probably more fore economical reasons. if it worked, they would've kept it for years unchanged. look at the panda, 500, 500x and tipo. especially the panda which has been basically the same since 2012. they probably couldn't find a way to make it better. fiat isn't in a good situation right now and stellantis isn't helping at all

nah fiat is just broke, truth is fiat partnered with Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler that leads to them into even shitter state. if they partnered with mazda and mazda only since the beginning they would be in much better state finance wise.

I own one of these and am about to put a Eurocompulsion ECU tune on it. I really love the car. As someone who lives in the city and doesn't get to put the pedal to floor a lot, I think the turbo is more engaging than the naturally aspirated engine for my use case. I get it punched up into the mid range where the turbo's torque really grabs it a lot more often than I get to floor it. I hear it's even more fun after the tune. I'm excited. Mine is also a special edition of this car, the Lusso Red Top. I think the Fiata looks so much better than the pre face life ND Miata. On looks, I'd take the 124 over anything before the face lifted RF. I just think it's beautiful. Maybe you can come down to New Orleans and review mine to compare the tuned version against the stock one of these days.

I always thought this car was the best of both worlds. Legendary Mazda platform, but with something the Miata never had: Torque. Also, I don't recall the Fiat 1.4t having any major issues by that time. I guess having to change the Iridium spark plugs at 30k miles was an annoyance, but that was a maintenance item, not a reliability issue. I owned the Fiat 500L, a much heavier car, and that engine was a blast! The car had all its TSBs applied when I bought it, and I never had one problem with it.

I own and drive a 2018 Red Fiat 124 Lusso. I really like the retro looks of my Lusso. I grew up on British and Italian roadsters and always wanted one. Being a family guy it was never in the cards until my 124 Lusso came along a year ago. Now don’t get me wrong as I also absolutely adore the Miata MX-5. They always have been a fantastic roadster and I applaud Mazda for keeping this car alive and true to its roots. If the 124 wasn’t a MX-5 in an Italian suit I likely wouldn’t like it as much. Having the family traits and longevity of the MX-5 means I know I can trust my 124 to be trouble free and worry free. It drives so similar to the Miata but still has the good looks of an Italian sports car. I really prefer the longer front hood and Italian flare. I trust the 1.4 turbo as it has been around a long time and has proven to be a robust and trouble free engine. Anyway as much as I love the Miata I just have to say my heart was stolen by the Italian cousin.

I always preferred the Fiata's styling over the ND Miata's. It's a much cleaner, classic design vs. the Miata's angry angular design.

Mine was bad luck altogether, with random things breaking constantly, in and out of collision repair shops multiple times for getting rear ended, then ultimately having the engine blow up out of warranty suddenly. My most fun car but also the car that I regret buying the most.

he said stellantis but that's a fiat engine. if it was stellantis, it would've been a peugot engine. the tipo, 500x, alfa MiTo, punto, bravo, lancia delta, jeep renegade, jeep compass, alfa Giulietta, abarth punto, abarth 595, etc etc. the engine also had multiple variants, including the 0.9 2cyl twinair with a whopping 85 or 105 hp. ranges from a 0.9 (twinair) to a 2.0 on FCA cars (alfa, lancia, jeeps, fiats). not stellantis

@@NoNoseFlappy69 abarth's issue is more electrical. by putting the engine in miata it gets bits of mazda electronics as well. cuz it's actually build by mazda instead of any other fiat cars.

Its not stellantis, its Fiat's own 1.4 they made for decades now. It was in 2000s Puntos and other cars fiat made in europe. Its reliable. Stellantis is just stupid merger that absorved fiat, chrysler and the rest.

Sorry Zach , that Fiat 124 Spyder is not Miata under the skin. The engine is that 1.4 Liter Multiair is FIAT. The exhaust is all FIAT. The seats & the door cards in the interior - FIAT. The windows are Mopar branded. All that body work - FIAT. Had the chance to test drive one after watching a glowing video review of the 2017 Fiat Spyder Abarth which was sitting at a dealer back in March of 2017. My test drive left me stunned at how badly Fiat missed the mark. The clutch ( from a NC Miata no less ) felt heavy & this is a sports car. That turbo engine had turbo lag so the throttle response was terrible. The very next day I went to the Mazda dealer to test drive a similar equipped 2016 MX-5 Club. That car was absolutely brilliant from the super light clutch to the instant throttle response it was impressive from the parking lot exit. So after a back to back test drive it was clear that the 2016 MX-5 Club soft top was a winner instead of the 2017 Fiat Spyder Abarth. They are different cars with different personalities.

It is Mazda. It has NC suspension and ND chassis. drivetrain is only engine wise a fiat one, exhaust obviously too as its meant to fit a turbo motor. Transmission is straight out of ND. Its literarily opposite of what you say. It has mazda "bones", it just has a different engine. Branding is obviously printed to be FCA sp you dotn see a random mazda logo on the car. Its still made in Japan using vast majority of Mazda parts.

@@Kacpa2 Opposite cars in many ways my friend ! Drove them back to back & really thought I would like the Fiat 124 Abarth but it didn't happen. Mazda MX-5 blew me away with what a fun daily driver should be. The Fiat also puts the oil filter ( elemental type ) upside down buried under the air intake. So oil changes are a mess ! WHY ?

The 124 looks better than the Miata however the Miata has a bulletproof proof drivetrain unlike the garbage Fiat 1.4 Turbo. What in the world were they thinking.
