Would absolutely recommend everyone who does a chain, also removes the sump and does the pump belt too. Notice no mention of the balance shaft timing - with the long bolt through the back of the sump.

Great spot, I did forget to mention. Alot of people don't bother with that step though. You can see the bolt on the sump above the drain plug.

Such a terrible design. Was really scratching my head when it was realised the autos seemed to be going early like 25-40k miles whereas the manuals going later closer to 100k miles. Because the auto has the balance shaft. Why they didn't chain that pump, and especially since it has a balance shaft assembly to rotate.... a silly little belt in oil. Unbelievable

Very true, been saying that for a while now

You should do more in detail . I dont understand that 1 turn and 3/4.
@JDTAuto17 күн бұрын
I will remember for next time. But you turn the crankshaft via the pulley bolt 1 complete revolution and then go 3/4 of the way round, put the crankshaft locking tool back and the turn until it stops (1/4) turn. 9 times out of 10 you do 2 complete turns of the crank to double check timing. As for every 2 turns of the crank the cam moves 1 one full turn. So if you turned the crank 1 turn the cam would be 180° out.

What was the total cost of the operation?

Can't remember how much we paid for the parts obviously I get trade prices. The labour would depend on where you go.

Why do you need to change the chain? I have a MK4 Ecoboost from 2019 with 62000 KM only but still my local ford dealer says it is a timing belt even though I know it’s the B7DA engine with the chain yet they try to convince me it’s a belt. Yes belt for the oil pump. Do you know which intervalls for the pump-belt? Today they tried to convince me to change spark plugs and air filter for €450 above normal oil change. Crazy place. Clearly I said no to change spark plugs as it was done last year at another garage.

Most people say you never need to change the chain. But they normally need changing around 100.000 mi (not specific to this engine but a general rule of thumb) or when they start to rattle due to stretching or failed tensioner or worn guides. I done the chain because to do the wet oil pump belt the chain has to come off so made sense to change it while it was all open anyway. I have checked all my workshop data's and there is no schedule to replace the chain or the oil pump belt ( but for oil pump belt you can go by the wet cambelt schedule) but as many ford owners know they fail before this. Mainly due to lack of maintenance or incorrect oil grade. That seems way too much. That price is ridiculous

The interval for the pump belt is 5 minutes.... In all seriousness, get the chain done with the oil pump belt and tensioner & ensure that the car always gets the correct oil and regular servicing and that will see you good for at least another 80k miles

1:54 Hi! What type is the automatic transmission? I have 1.0 hybrid 155le engine (M0DC). The transmission is 7dct300. Just thinking about the balance shaft. Is the 7dct300 have it or not?
@JDTAuto28 күн бұрын
This one has the 8 Speed Auto. The one your car has is the 7 speed dual clutch. So to be honest I am not sure. I know the manuals do not have the "balance shaft". But for the dual clutch gearboxes I don't know. I can check on my workshop data system for you. If I find anything I will update this. One way to check is to put your reg in a parts site and see what oil pump they recomment is compatible (but this option is not always 100% accurate).
@AttilaKecskés-u7l28 күн бұрын
Yes, the manual doesn't mention the balance shaft. It only mention the type of transmission. I thought about looking on the part sites too. Thanks for looking in your database.

Have searched everywhere I could without your exact car details I can't pinpoint. But I have seen 3 versions being sold for the hybrid.
@AttilaKecskés-u7l26 күн бұрын
@@JDTAuto Thank you looking after it. What kind of details do you need? Or what these 3 versions?
@JDTAuto26 күн бұрын
Would need the reg no. But you cannot give this information out. Maybe ring ford ask for a quote for some work. Sometimes they put the part no.s on the quotes. Or if you do your own servicing whip the sump off when you do the oil change next?.

What was the mileage of the car and what caused the issue? I also have the 1.0 155 (M0DC) with automatic gearbox and I change the oil at 15k km, not at 30k km, as recommended by Ford, with genuine 5w20 Ford spec oil (Castrol).
@JDTAuto26 күн бұрын
Mileage was 47,000, full dealership history. Oil Pump Wet Belt ripped all the teeth. Stupid design they updated the timing to a chain but kept the oil pump with a wet belt. Would have been better to run the oil pump from a chain also.
@AttilaKecskés-u7l26 күн бұрын
@@ionutoanca I know a few people who have a manual transmission. They don't have a balance shaft and belt tensioner. The belt in a manual transmission is not damaged. It's not exposed to that much load. That's why I'm looking for whether the 7dct300 transmission has a balance shaft or not?
@JDTAuto26 күн бұрын
I have seen a few manual ones do the same thing. But for some strange reason on auto's the belt goes more than the pump. But on the manuals the pump fails and the belt lasts longer.
