It was an awesome HR derby, prob the best ever. Just had an anti-climatic ending. The beast of the night, had to duel extra long in that double overtime style slugfest, then had to go first in the final and could see 10-15 swings in he was completely gassed and almost falling over. Pete had an extra easy route to the final going last everytime and knowing the number he had to hit. Even though Vlad lost the final, he made that Derby crazy and owned the night.

@@evanmyer7718 well ya, Alonso was the league HR champ but this is the HR Derby. Vlad didn't even get in there by virtue of anything he did the first half. He got in there because MLB knew this kid hits the ball as hard or harder than anyone in MLB and has crazy BP sessions. So if you're going by season stats vlad shouldn't have even been there. But its a HR derby so the guy who goes last in the finals should be the one who performed best that given day. Going 1st 3 rounds in a row and having to go fulltilt vs someone who went last in all 3 rounds and took half the swings really wasn't a fair playing field for the finals. But sure if you want to say 1 guy deserved being there and 1 guy didn't, but the guy who didn't outhit everyone by a landslide overall and was only outhit in the finals because he had at best half the energy left.

Flexb123 That doesn’t follow the MLB format. The team that gets home field advantage in the WS is the team that had the best regular season, not the team that did better in the postseason. They have a set bracket before the game, they’re not going to change it in the middle of the derby just because some guy is doing really good. And it’s not supposed to be fair to both hitters, the one who did better in the regular season and earned a higher seed gets an advantage, that’s how every sport works.

I think the pace of the home run Derby now is much better and now that they figured out a way for us to actually get to watch where the balls are flying and see the distance of them instead of just constant camera changes, it's gotten a lot better. The one thing that is just not as good as it used to be is the announcer. Chris Berman used to bring such an energy and now they couldn't be more dull. If they can just get someone with high energy in like Berman used to be it'll be perfect
