Hey Michael - Great demo and playing! It's awesome that you dig this Exclusive Run Gibson Firebird I ... cause, I'm the guy that designed/brought this LE Run back - HA!..😎 So it's an honor to have this featured here at Norms. 🙏 These really are unbelievable guitars, everyone - so scoop this up if this has not already sold! Kind of bummed that I did not keep one of the prototypes for myself. A couple fun facts if anyone is interested? These came in 4 colors. Was originally only going to do VSB, but Gibson wanted to do a larger run, so we added Heather Poly, Frost Blue, and the Silver Mist that you are featuring - which is probably my favorite color. Pretty sure the run was 100pcs for each color, but don't quote me, I can't remember 100%. Officially released 5/1/2018 and Gibson started shipping July 2018. Gibson did not build and ship them all at once, it was about 25pc at a time. So it is very likely there would be some 2019 serial numbers as well. Its not that the song is particularly that hard to play, but when Lemmo plays it I have to pick my jaw up off the floor. His bends are crazy and the lead runs are sooo crisp and defined. Bravo sir.

For some reason, this particular demo brings a question to mind. Did Gibson ever attempt to assemble a Firebird with semi-hollow cavities? I realize that would probably spell danger for the top end, but it would probably still make it a little bit easier to hold and play.

It is likely a Firebird Humbucker, though many people, including our beloved Mr. Lemmo, incorrectly call it a Mini Humbucker. Scroll down to the comment by @Paul_Lenard_Ewing for a better description of the differences between the two designs.

It is NOT a mini HB it is a Firebird PU. It is constructed using 2 blade magnets inserted in the bobbins. A mini HB is one magnet laying flat under the bobbins. They sound night and day different. Do your homework. It is embarrassing to hear this from Normans .

Gibson reissues of the Firebird do not use the same pickup build that was originally introduced in 1963. Epiphone Firebirds use the original design and sound great.

Isn’t a mini humbucker just any humbucker smaller than the standard size, as established by the PAF in 1957? ☺️ By this metric Guild’s “anti hum” of the 1960s qualifies and so does Gretsch’s Filter’Tron. The Firebird pickup obviously does too.

To the average player’ it looks like a small humbucker’ so to make it easier to advertise the guitar as a whole it is easier for them just to call it a mini humbucker because it looks like a humbucker but it’s a mini size’ some people just wouldn’t understand the tech side of how pickups are constructed with the magnets and how the are wound etc’ so it’s safe to say that I’m sure Norm is well aware of the construction and the background of these pickups’ it’s just not worth all the time it would take to explain all the ins and outs of humbuckers and mini humbuckers ✌️
