I own a 2014 Nissan Rogue with 100,000 miles and we've had 0 problems with the cvt. And in daily use, it isn't noisy at all! This car was not built for 0-60 tests...it was built to carry a family comfortably around town, and it fulfills that mission flawlessly.

1. The average consumer doesn't buy a crossover SUV for performance. (Ignore my screen name, lol.) My wife (and I, really when it comes to a crossover SUV) couldn't care less how fast it is. Rogue is comfortable, quiet, ridiculously efficient and Pro Pilot Assist rocks. If I wanted speed I'd buy a sports car (or a motorcycle... or two)... i.e. toys, (which I have.) But our everyday driver is a tool, not a toy. It exists to make my life EASIER and more comfortable, not necessarily more fun. There is a time and place for fun, and commuting to work at 6:30 every day while sipping coffee is not that time. 2. Speaking of Pro Pilot, you gotta put way more emphasis on the driver assistance technology! ICC + lane KEEP system (not just a departure warning-- Pro Pilot physically keeps you centered in the lane as long as the camera can lock onto the painted road lines) + blind spot warning + several other factors all play into an awesome "kick back and relax" driving experience. It will practically drive you down the interstate with minimal effort. 3. Speaking of minimal effort, the lighter steering wheel is also that much less effort it takes to glide a Rogue down the road. 4. I thought the back seat in the Rogue was fantastic-- I'm a 6'0" male. There is really something to be said about deep footwells for a comfortable riding position for adults and the Rogue has a great floor-to-seat-to-ceiling height. 5. To the people trash talking the CVT for it's rumored lack of longevity, I have personally gone through both a 2005 Honda Accord automatic transmission rebuild (at 120k miles) and a 1999 Dodge Durano auto transmission rebuild (at about 110k miles). Both ran me upwards of $4200. Nissan isn't the only manufacturer out there whose transmissions sometimes don't make it to 200k miles without an overhaul. CVTs are actually simpler in design compared to a regular planetary automatic gearbox, with way fewer moving parts and thus they are about 15% or 20% cheaper to replace than a regular auto gearbox should you ever have to. (Disclaimer: I'm currently leasing a 2019 Rogue and I've never driven an Equinox-- but I LOVE my Rogue!)

@NameNaameNameeNaamee
@NameNaameNameeNaamee 4 жыл бұрын
Agreed 100%. CVTs are awsome. They do best what you do 99% of the time anyways. Just drive. They are as smooth if not smoother than a traditional TC automatic while beeing as efficient in city driving as a DCT. In day to day operation, I found them to react faster than either of the above if you suddenly need some power. SO while not feeling "as sporty", they actually have an edge in those day to day situations. And if you are crusing there is no thing as calming as a CVT, just gliding along without those stupid rev jumps. ProPilot is awsome as well. A lot of reviewers have actually no idea how it works and how much more it does compared to your typical lane departure warning and ACC. Seats - it won't get much better than the Rogue in this class, front AND back. It's just a damn good package and there is a reason why it is the market leader.

I own a 2018 Rogue Sport SL and a 2019 Rogue SL. They’re both fantastic vehicles. They may not win any races, but nobody buys these vehicles for speed. They’re well built, they come with every bit of electronics you’d ever want (premium package, and ProPilot on the 2019), and they’re comfortable for four people. ProPilot is amazing; once you get comfortable with it, you’ll always use it for freeway driving. It’s a package of adaptive cruise and lane holding. I’ve tested it around aggressive turns, and it works well. Great tech. The top-down and side view cameras are very useful maneuvering aids. Both have the 6-speed auto, and I don’t have an issue with noise or speed. I average 28 mpg combined, and nearly 31 freeway in the 2019. I don’t regularly drive the Sport, but it seems to do about the same. Eco mode and a report screen containing instant MPG and a bar that shows how economically you’re driving help. A combined braking-acceleration number also gives useful feedback on driving style. Ultimately, I’m sure the Chevy is a fine vehicle, but I do love our Rogues.

FYI- all Rogues have CVT’s (Cont Variable Transmission.) Nissan programs them to rev out a ratio a little then “shift” to the next ratio quickly to make it feel like a traditional automatic gearbox, but you get all the MPG bonuses of never breaking the power to the wheels that actually happens when a trad. auto trans actually shifts gears. They implemented this “D-Step technology” in the early 2010 decade due to lots of consumers not being comfortable with the way the engine just sits around the optimal RPM all the way from 20 to 80 mph and never “shifts.” In actuality, it is smoothly shifting the whole time. -Er, WAS smoothly shifting, until that freaked enough consumers out that Nissan had to program the CVT to mimic a traditional gearbox.)

First, my wife and I own a 2016 Nissan Rogue, and when it was brand new it did seem a little slow. The ride quality and the speed we feel has improved with breaking in. I believe two factors are at play with the disappointing 0-60 performance. 1. The vehicle is probably not broken in. 2. I’m sure that the system adapts to the drivers driving style over time. My best advice to you guys is to get one as a long term tester and maybe you will experience for yourself what I’m talking about. ROGUE ALL THE WAY!

turbo doesn't mean higher insurance. though its not a turbo, my insurance quoted me a price right in the middle of a subi outback and chevy equinox, for a 2019 Mustang GT w/460hp !! it has to do with insurance accident ratings, theft % of vehicles history, and related things like that. Rogue is generally nice, and I think it has locking cente diff ? but I like the equinox better, for power/fuel cost balance is pretty decent. It has lots of features too... though it doesn't have the same breaking/collossion system, overall it's a good choice.. But all are decent choices for various peoples preferences, needs, etc.. Rogue is just too slow for me.. I am the guy that cares for some decent passing power.. not every day driving, but when need it, it's there. we have a 2.5 Legacy and it's just fine when I drive it, but on hwy and passing trucks, etc.. I hate it.. but it's the wife's every day driver, not mine. I would of gone with the 3.6R if was my car. Side note, cvt's can be for power as well. I believe originally they were designed for peak toruqe to stay in place for race cars, and if done right, can actually be faster acceleration. but they're durability/reliability is not there yet.

Right on. I am on my 4th year on the Ford F150 with absolutely no problems. The prior two trucks I owned were GMC and Chevy and both had early transmission failures, both ring and pinion gears went out and both a/c compressors went out in115K-135K miles. The Equinox will probably do the same. I hate to say it but Chevrolet just doesn't engineer quality into their drivetrains. That's why the Cruse, Malibu and Sonic doesn't sell. Why buy one and get problems when you can buy a Civc, Sentra or Corolla.

I’be got a 1999 Silverado with the original motor and it has 540,000 miles. They original transmission went out at 412,000 miles. I don’t call that early. Every car manufacturer is going to have a lemon no matter what you buy. What about the 2005 Ford Explorer. They were nicknamed the Ford exploders. It wasn’t because Ford was a bad brand. They just made a mistake of making the rear of the Explorer independent suspension which caused a lot of trouble.

I have a 2018 Equinox 1.5L as my work vehicle and I drive it almost every workday. The engine I find has plenty of power. In fact, I love the torque that is available so much earlier than with a NA engine. It has fantastic drivability. I have no problem merging onto a 75mph highway. It corners really tight, I was surprised by that. The seats are quite comfortable but I wish the lumbar adjustment had more “push”. It is a fairly quiet vehicle, it is easy to see around and it’s easy to park. The minuses are the engine sounds a little gruff when pushed, and the fuel gauge doesn’t read full even immediately after filling up. I also think the rear looks too minivan like but I don’t really care, it’s a work car. I would consider buying one if I needed a new vehicle and I wouldn’t pay the extra for the 2.0 engine. Oh, I’m getting 30-32mpg but I do a lot of highway.

70+ % of buyers of these cars are WOMEN . I said BUYERS, not renters, or Leasers. IF you had some women look at these two cars, you might change your mind on What is important. Nissan is NOT trying to sell Nathan a Rogue. The cargo set up for groceries is a BIG seller. The back seat Sliders AND recline are huge sellers for the Nissan. The Nissan Front Accident avoidance is HUGE with Insurance company costs. No Turbo means more room for a bigger transmission cooler, and less costs down the road. The Front seats are top in class comfort. Maybe a Review with the targeted market is in order. Nissan has a home run here and keeps riding the wave from 2017.5 and right into 2019. ( yes they made a 2017.5 Rouge in s, SV and SL trim).

We test drove both the Equinox ST and the Rogue SV. The Rogue had a lot more take off power, great steering and lots of great safety features. The Equinox had no take off power, and it has a feature where the engine shuts off in a few seconds when you apply the brakes and restarts when you remove your foot from the brake pedal. This makes me feel very uneasy and it doesn’t seem safe at all to me, also it seems like this would cause the starter to go out sooner. The turbo engine can be a real problem, if it ever gets too hot it can burn up the motor I was told, and it’s very expensive to repair.

The Equinox tested doesn't have the available Nav option installed so they either had to pair a device or use OnStar. I recently bought my wife a 2020 Equinox Premier 2LZ with Nav and 7 speaker Bose premium sound. The only option it lacks is the sunroof. A feature she doesn't want. We test drove several other competitors the Ford, the Mazda, and the Honda. It was her choice and she chose the Equinox without hesitation. We researched vehicles online before we decided on test drives. The Rogue didn't make the list because it is just too utilitarian for her. She's had the Equinox Premier 2.0 for two weeks now and she absolutely loves the thing.

The sport just keeps you at 2,000rpms whatever speed youre going, doesnt help with off the line acceleration. turning off VDC and OD/Off will let you buzz into the higher rpms when it would normally “shift” (causing more wear n tear definitely) maybe it just seems like im going faster lol

That priced Rogue is selling in the low $30,000 range and most on the lot are advertised well below 30k. I am not an SUV guy, or a CVT guy, so I am not interested in one.

Other features on the Rogue you tested were hands free tailgate, rear automatic braking and with the free trial of the NissanConnect Services app you can use parental controls to receive notifications if your kid exceeds a set speed, goes outside of a certain boundary , turn on lights, unlock doors and other services. The Rogue may not be the newest crossover on the market but it packs a lot of premium features for the money. My 2018 CR-V was totaled by my insurance company last week. The CRV had more road and wind noise but it was more fun to drive with the 1.5 turbo. With all the incentives that I qualified for and the hefty discount my dealer gave me on a never titled 19 demo with 6,000 miles made it a easy decision. I drive less than 10,000 miles a year and will pay it off in 24-36 months then give it to my niece to drive to college.

This really shows car reviewers inability to relate with the general consumer. Ex: The second a consumer sees that the 38k chevy has no GPS or panoramic roof vs the 36k Nissan that has both and better MPG game over. Sure the Chevy has more horsepower but the people who care about horsepower and “fun to drive” are not the ones buying SUV’s. Hell going by the sales numbers nobody cares about those things anymore.

it has those features..and GM over prices on purpose.. so if you're not shy, you'll get more $$ off to make up the difference. I test drove both and the Chevy is the better driving dynamics vehicle. Power is key.. over 14 seconds to 60 is dangerously slow... almost twice as long... try passing a truck on the hwy. !! might aw well pull over and go to sleep... both are generally nice, but from my experience test drivng both, Equinox is better in my opinion. it handles better, responsive, it's quite and overall a nice ride.

Yes, it's Rogue having poorer power/acceleration results in general would make it that slow... Sure, it's not a turtle or crazy slow... but it's SLOW.. imagine if weighed down with 4 people and gear... This goes for all 4 cyl non-turbos in all similar vehicles/wight, but not all the Mazda CX5 (not the new turbo) has a bit better #'s then some, and... the 2.0L turbo in the Equinox rocks !! and it's a nice handling/quiet ride (according to the pro reviews).... If Rogue has the locking centre diff, then I'd like that part... as I'm used to that on my Santa fe... the equinox has normal shitty on demand awd... I don't like that part, honestly.... ..... side note, the new Rav4 has improved it's power and manliness design, but test drove it and check road tests reviews and it's only a wee bit better than before and also too slow for it's size... if load it up, good luck passing truck and if a bit of an uphill... 2-2.5 L turbos are awesome now.... I still kinda prefer naturally aspirated engines, but these do fine... I realized this even more so when I rented a 1.0L turbo car in Greece last year... it wasn't fast, but with the turbo, it didn't have an issue with hills or passing in generall...but still not fast, surprisingly decent...

The Equinox had multiple choices and to compare a 250hp engine against a 170hp engine is not fair. That's like running a V6 ecoboost Mustang against a Mustang GT. Yes they are both Mustangs, but the engine makes all the difference in the world. Another thing is the price. The Rogue had a panoramic roof and the Equinox didn't and it was still about $2000 cheaper than the Equinox. The service techs did test drive it and experienced what I brought in in for. Nissan then requested that the dealership take pictures of the CVT while torn down. The dealership did replace the transmission with remanufactured one. Luckily my mom had the extended warranty which was expiring next week..lol. It did cost me 100 deductible. So far its running ok. The transmission comes with a 1 yr or 12k warranty. I'm probably going to trade it in for something without a CVT .

In 2019, the Rogue was suffering from what it still suffers from, age. As you note, the Rogue is an affordable, perfectly competent commuter CUV. But it was designed in 2014. By the time of this review, it had been available for almost 6 years, meaning it is at the very end of its product cycle. That's why it doesn't have a lot of power, when it was designed, there was a lot less tech on board and 170 HP and torque was about the standard. While it's fun to ding Nissan over CVT, people seem to totally forget how many Japanese vehicles have a CVT! I drive a 2017 Pathfinder. Power isn't an issue and the CVT, while its not a dragster, gets the job done perfectly well. As for the back seat, that is from it being designed as a 3 row vehicle. Nissan, like a lot of other manufacturers, realized the 3rd row in a compact sacrifices too much in comfort and cargo to make it useful. The market for such vehicles is tiny, and Mitsubishi, and the dinosaur Dodge Journey already occupy the space. I would expect the 2021 Rogue to correct many of these problems.

Ford has "Employee Pricing" but is offset by the finance rate which is now 4 or 5 per cent higher. My calculation showed I was now paying more for the Escape during the current employee pricing event, than just prior to it. I also found the Equinox had more bell's & whistle's than the Cadillac XT4 SUV. Currently, all the high-tech features found in other SUV's are available in the Equinox. How fast it can go quickly is way down on my list of what's important.. how easily a family of 5 can get in and sit in it. Storage, driver seat comfortableness, tech, charger outlets for the kids, etc. I think these two were comparing what was important to them, and hey, it's their video. Rich Petro start with K&N performance gold oil filter, K&N air filter. Only run Mobil 1 extended performance 5w30 full synthetic. Then look at the front of the intake scoop, it should have foam and a piece of plastic that holds a wire harness blocking it from getting air. Remove the foam, and use a serrated knife to cut away the plastic blocking the air scoop without removing the wire harness spot. I also added a tower strut brace to mine, it may be the only rogue in NA with one though as I ordered my freight shipped from japan. I also added a PCV oil catch can. The equinox not above sea level does it it 6.67 seconds with the 2.0T. It’s fast and it can tow 3500 lbs. also the equinox could have had a huge panoramic sunroof

The optional front-wheel drive option is definitely a step in the right direction. I feel full-time AWD tends to suck the fuel a bit especially when you don't need it in the summer months.

Why compare the 2.0 turbo to the rogue? It's more direct competitor would be the 1.5 turbo premier.

If you want to honestly check leg space in the second row seats, try using either the tall or short guy in both vehicles, not the short guy saying how great one car is while tall guy complaining about space in the other car.

My family has owned countless Chevrolet products and a few nissans, thus said, chevrolet has treated us well, but I really can’t say the same for Nissan..

We had a 2020 Equinox for about 3 months. Traded it in because we had 3 trips to the dealer for engine lights. Never again lol.

I was a Toyota Rav4 fan and checked out their 2019 and was completely disappointed by it starting at being 6 feet tall and not being able to get in comfortably with the seat all the way down and having 1/2 inch of headroom. It all went downhill from there and we tried the Rogue and it was a done deal. Nice car, nice features, easy on gas and easy on the ticket stubs.

The Rogue is quieter, engine noise not withstanding. I don't see how you can say it's a louder engine when your own test proved it's not.

I have the 19 equinox 2.0T. My biggest complaint is the 9 speed. It's slow. Even just from switching from reverse to drive. 8.8 seconds from a 2.0T most other 2.0T are in the mid to low 6s. I'll have to do my own test one of these days

Maybe the slight difference is the AWD versus FWD? Perhaps front wheel drive would get to 60 a little quicker?

I have ridden in but not driven my son's Subaru Outback and my daughter's Honda CRV both with the CVTs and I was impressed with the quietness and smoothness of both compared to the 9 speed in my new Jeep Cherokee.

I have the experience, as a user, in both vehicles. Tube an Equinox 2018 that from the 3 months of having bought it began to give problems of transmission, air conditioning, drowning accelerating and to top it all you had to press the accelerator all the way to get the speed and other problems. Consumers invest in a new vehicle with the expectation that it lasts at least 10 years. We no longer have the Equinox, now GM has it again. We bought A Nissan Rogue SV and we are extremely happy with our purchase. We got more for our money, acceleration is very good, I can have the option of Sport or Eco, more space, comfort and technology and now we are safe and without problems at the moment.
