2019 Hobie Compass Camo Walkthrough

My buddy Luis gave me the opportunity to check out his new 2019 Hobie Compass Camo and all of the upgrades he had done on it. Luis was lucky enough to win the kayak in a raffle hosted by 956 Kayak Anglers and Fin Factory! The Hobie Compass is a great size and has open platform so you can really make it your own!

Its great how he modded it to have Outback and Pro Angler features onboard. I currently own a Pro Angler 14 but the thing is a tank and I already have the 2019 Outback too but the Compass is starting to make me think. Tight lines everybody 🙂

I agree! The compass meets most people's needs and is an awesome kayak! All like Luis did here you can always trick it out to meet your needs! Looking to get a 2nd Hobie pretty soon not sure if I'll get the passport or the compass. Leaning passport since it looks even easier to transport

Is it stable the out back is only 9inches longer than the compass and same width 34 I believe nice set up thank you for the ideas

I would ditch the H crate and get a good cooler especially during the summer it can hold your gear or throw ice in it and hold the fish

I have a compass duo and it doesn’t track well downwind or in chop. Do you have any ideas on how to get it to track in a straight line better? I want to replace the rudder with the large PA rudder but don’t know how to remove the rudder

Fishing Bandit Silva I opted not to. After cutting out the rectangle hatch pattern I still couldn’t reach the area where the bolt would enter. I also realized that the bar would interfere with my ability to access the rudder control knob. Thanks for replying anyways!

One of your Starboard side screws is loose on the stand up bar.

The deck mat brand is called Marine Mat. Luis ordered it from Fin Factory in Corpus Christi. I believe Marine Mat has a dealer locator on their website

How did you replace the circle hatch with the rectangle one on front of the seat? Is that an option that you can choose or need to custom order?

It’s my friends kayak but I do know that you can just buy the square hatch. You can ask the hobie dealer to cut/install it for you or you can do it yourself. I think there is a video on the Hobie KZbin channel about it

You don’t have to. You can pay for the upgraded drive but the total price will be more than the camo edition.

What are your thoughts on the compass seat? Is it to low for fishing all day?

It’s the nicest kayak i have owned. With back issues I dont have an issue and standing up periodically helps. I’m sure the outback and pro angler Hobie seats are comparable if not better.

Hobie needs to put a larger front hatch similar to the one you have in the front butt bigger on the Outback's to hatch they have they would have no problem with them leaking so maybe a good choice with the compass
