At 7:33 you could take the screw out of the rod holder cover, then put one twist on the tab (and screw it back down (at that slight offline angle). After that, when you pull it out of the hole, it should flip out of the way.

Thanks for the heads up. They actually don't get in the way anymore. My Outback was a few days old when I shot the video. I think they just became more pliable over time. I may have even loosened the screw a little at some point. I appreciate your advice. It will help others that just got one.

Not knocking fresh water fishing , it's what I do lol

Even the 2018 looks the same. It just comes with a 180 drive instead. I have a boat too, but I'm the opposite. I haven't used my boat yet this year. I've only done a bunch of maintenance on it. I hope to use it a few times before the end of the year. It does seem like they made the new one more of an inshore type kayak. Water comes over the bow in chop. You have to add a different seal to keep water out. I fish both fresh and salt. I'm still not sure which one I like best yet, so I'm keeping both until next spring.

Hey man! Just a heads up, when you add your round hatch be sure to drop your rudder and unpin the bungee on the cable. I learned the hard way they have ran the cord nearly right down the middle of the boat. Tight lines!~

Thanks for the heads up. I was going to wait to hear from hobie. Are there any other cables or other things to worry about? I'd like to do this now, so I can figure out how I'm going to run the steering for my Bixpy.
@FoxxCross6 жыл бұрын
The right and left steering are just to the outside of where the hatch goes in independent nylon tubes under the storage area. They are out of the way of where you have to cut. Nothing is under the gunnels of the boat to worry about drilling into that I can tell.

TomyTek Outdoors I fish all over. I’m from AA. Work in Moco. But live in Bel Air, where I do most of my fishing. Deer Creek, Susquehanna, Bush River, Upper Chesapeake Bay and Baltimore County. I’d like to get down to the waters in Anne Arundel more. I’m about to pull the trigger on a 2019 Outback. But that price tag on the Pelican Catch 130 HD has my wallet in mind. Opinion?
@TomyTekOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
@@jdalsII There are snakehead up your way as well. I'll eventually venture up that way to target them. The 2019 Outback is pretty awesome, but on the expensive side. They even raised the price b/c of the tariffs supposedly. The Catch 130 is pretty nice too for the price. There are a lot of options now for more affordable pedal kayaks. The Old topwater PDL is a nice kayak for the price. They have the best warranty on their drive. I demoed one and it's pretty nice. You just have to get used to the bicycle peddling motion.

TomyTek Outdoors I’ve narrowed it it down between the outback and the compass. I like the open deck of the compass, but I’m afraid I won’t have anything to grow into with the features of the outback. Thoughts?
@TomyTekOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
@@jdalsII I demoed the compass as well. Its cheaper than the Outback and much lighter. The seat is not as comfortable and it doesn't have all the bells and whistles. I added quite a bit to my 2016 Outback to suite my needs. I didn't have to do much on my 2019. I do tend to have lot of gadgets on my kayak. I don't like the rudder and what I had to do to use my Bixpy Jet on my 2019. The compass will be more portable and easier on your pocket. If you don't need all the bells and whistles and want to keep it simple, the compass is a good choice. There are quite a few used Hobies for sale right now. You might be able to find a good price on a used one that's rigged. I've seen some good deals on the older Outbacks. If you can, demo them to see which one you like best.

I have a red 2016 as well with turbo fins. I do a lot of Offshore and as much as I like it, it feels like a tug boat what I have several miles to go. How does the 2019 glide feel compared to the 2016?
@TomyTekOutdoors6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. The 2019 is much faster than the 2016. It cuts through waves much better. The downside is that more water comes over the bow, since it cuts through the waves instead of rolling over them. Water can get in the front hatch if you bought the earlier Outbacks. If you buy them now, they should come with the extra front hatch seal already installed. They sent me one for free, but I have to install it myself or bring it to my dealer. It also tracks way better if you paddle. You can see this in my on the water test video kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJu3dWCcaNd5e8U.

@TomyTekOutdoors8 ай бұрын
It all depends on the condition of the kayak. Which model and year are your looking at? Check for deep scratches and cracks. Pay close attention to the scupper area where the cart would be inserted and where the seat touches the hull. If you plan to add a motor, make sure you get a bill of sale from the seller. Each state is different, so check to see what needs to be on the bill of sale to register your kayak. You should also check to see what other information you need to register it. I have friends that still use their 2015 Outbacks. I still use my 2019 Outback.

Great video. Unfortunately, the Hobie Outback, Hobie's most versatile kayak, died in 2018. They started using its name on a kayak that is a shadow of what the Outback was. This "new" Outback froi was made prioritizing the sale of accessories, with its immensely buoyant stern that makes the bow submerge at the slightest swell, a large and heavy kayak with less secondary stability much closer to the Hobie PA. I had the 2014, 2016 models and I now have a 2018 which I take very good care of so I don't have to go for a Revolution 13. I hope that the Hobie is sold to a group that is in the nautical sector and not in investments so that we can return to have Hobart "Hobie" Alter products and behavior
@TomyTekOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Thank you. I was a bit disappointed with the wet ride of the new Outback. I've heard some people having issues with warranties after Hobie was bought. I haven't had to claim anything, so I don't know myself. I now use my PA360 most of the time now. My wife claimed the Outback, but I don't take her out unless conditions are optimal. Which of the two kayaks do you find best for offshore fishing?
@TomyTekOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I don't really go offshore fishing, so I can't say from personal experience. There are a lot of guys that do it with no problem. The biggest problem early on was water getting into the front hatch. Hobie now ships them from the factory with the front hatch seal and that fixes the problem. I heard the some guys still getting water in from the hardware, so they removed and seal everything with marine goop and now everything is water tight. The older Outback will roll over and bounce on swells, while the new Outback will plow into it and water will come over. That is the big change for the hull, which makes it faster, but the trade off is cutting though waves with a wetter ride. Here's a good video showing an offshore experience early on with the new Outback kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4u6i3Shrt6bj7c. This will give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

Imo, a well dressed Revo13 is better for offshore because of its speed and secundary stability.

For my needs, I don't think so. Don't get me wrong, the 2019 is a nice kayak and comes pretty much ready to go. It's more stable and faster. I don't like the rudder on the 2019. I hate having to use the Outback loader. I forgot to use it a few times. It took a bit for me to figure out the best way to mount and steer my Bixpy Jet. If you plan to launch in big surf, it's going to be a wet ride. For the way I fish and crab, my 2016 does what I need. I also just got the PA360 and it's amazing. I will likely sell my 2019 and keep my 2016. I'm will be making a video about this soon. Thanks for watching.

I like the sidewall from the old outback because it’s makes you feel secure. I recently tested the hobie pro angler 12 2019 and the predator pdl, almost flip twice on the pdl. Didn’t like the pro angler feels sluggish and top heavy. After testing two top of the line kayak with different drives I regreted selling my old outback lol. Don’t know what you got till it’s gone.

I mostly fish the Chesapeake Bay and it's tributaries, so I wouldn't be able to do a true sea test. I wish the coast were closer to me. The waves in the Chesapeake Bay are quite different from the ocean. If there is anything specific that you would like to see, please let me know and I can include it in a future video. To be honest, I will not go out in bad conditions just to get a bunch of views on a video. It's not worth it. I'll either find a sheltered place to fish or stay home.
