Good review, but you forgot the rear seats space. In your opinion, the Honda Insight EX for $25k NOW , or a $35k Model 3 in two years. Not a fair apples to apples comparison, but for the interior space, and money, this is very nice

Why can Toyota start making cars as good looking as Honda? Who said a hybrid (Prius) has to be so weird looking? Haven't the Toyota designers learned anything from Tesla? People, consumers, want to by affordable hybrid or electric cars, that look normal.
@JoeE.
@JoeE. 6 жыл бұрын
jmcascardo Toyota design language has been a hit for them for years. And Prius has been the best selling hybrid. As for Honda, they keep on failing to compete with Toyota. This is the reason why until now Honda is trying hard to eat some of Prius market share. For me, I'll still buy a Toyota as theirs have been tested and proven to be reliable.

Maybe toyota could have done better with some styling elements but the prius outer shape is a function of aerodynamics and practicality. Efficient cars with room for stuff will always look this way.

Then pick a Camry hybrid. The Camry is a normal looking car. Honestly, Prius has a weird or unique design but I’d bet that has been one of the reasons why people noticed it, the Prius popularity show this. Now let’s compare the Insight sale’s since inception yet even though it been around before the first Toyota hybrid, the masses just never realized Honda had a hybrid.

Here's the thing the old inside High Ridge were actually notorious pieces of crap that you really had to drive carefully to really get good fuel economy on and they weren't necessarily known for being reliable like the Toyota hybrids as well as Honda has been known for over inflating its fuel economy numbers 4 it's hybrids before giving the very top tier very best possible tested fuel economy out of the multitude of fuel economy runs done where as Toyota usually goes on the safe end of time that the fuel economy is and they don't give you the best out of a multitude of runs they kind of tell you the worst out of a multitude of runs which is way nicer cuz it's much easier to achieve that type of fuel economy not to mention that the Honda Accord Hybrid which this is basically a small version of is a car that was actually not known for being a great fuel economy car at highway speeds but was known for being pretty good at City speeds but still not giving you the actual fuel economy numbers that Honda was claiming where is my Toyota Prius with a little bit of aggressive driving actually hits the mark on what Toyota says it will get City Highway combined and meats and even slightly exceeds the highway fuel economy and on straight City Driving actually meets or exceeds a certain city driving but gets pretty close on the claim combined the way that the powertrain Works in this car is the gasoline engine cannot engage the tires at all at lower speeds until you hit about 20 or 25 miles an hour so only the electric motors can kick in and work and if the battery is too depleted the engine will not even shut off when you come to a stop it will keep running to run the generator which is mated to the smaller of the two electric motors so that way they will be charged in the battery for when you take off off the line even if you floor it the engine can't even kick in and give you any assistance until you hit a very minimum of 13 miles an hour so at parking lot speeds this is essentially an electric vehicle and once you start hitting cruising speeds more like 25 30 35 miles an hour then it turns into more of a hybrid or gasoline powered vehicle unlike most other hybrids even though there is dual motors built into the hybrid system they are not of equal size there is one that is bigger than the other the bigger one is your primary motor that takes care of moving you down the road or hoping to recapture energy as you are slowing down and the smaller one primarily works as a starter motor to start the gasoline engine and also as a generator to help charge the batteries it is actually a good thing they made this design change on the Insight because the Accord Hybrid even though it's not known for getting the type of fuel economy that they claim was still a pretty fuel efficient car and a reliable one at that compared to the Civic Hybrid and the Insight hybrid so hopefully this car will at least be a lot more reliable and it is now more spacious luckily but it is still a Honda Insight hybrid so realistically what you can expect is lower 40s for fuel economy maybe mid-forties and on occasion over 40s and lower 50s where is in the Toyota Prius you can generally count on Mid to upper 40s and lower to mid 50s even sometimes upper 50s for fuel economy the reason a lot of hybrids are so ugly at least the ones that really truly want to try to be fuel efficient like the Prius is that design actually helps to lower their drag coefficient as they move through the air and that is part of what helps a hybrid to get its good fuel economy.

Phrancis5 It really depends on what is good looking, or unoffending. Would you believe people dismissed big Citroens from CXs to C6s for being weirdly ugly? To me, the Insight looks really nice, and better now that the ill equipped IMA is gone - in place of a beefed up Prius drivrtrain, but the odds of it ageing poorly and quickly in a few years are fairly substantial if it's going to play cookie-car cut outs. This would be a very impressive car, if it was 2011. Besides, 48 miles of EV running and anywhere from $7500 in tax credits looks _waay_ better.

This car is extremely disappointing to me due to so many lacking features. It offers so much less than the Prius, Niro or even the Ioniq. This car has lost so many things in comparison to its competition: heated steering, ventilated seats, heated rear seats, a spare tire, rear ventilation, a professional audio system, Qi charger, blind-spot detection, possibly more in the infotainment. It also offers many features only on the highest trims that these competitors offer on mid-level trims, for example the dual zone climate is offered on the EX Civic, but not until Touring in the Insight.. This car is a sedan, and that is all that is better. I am incredibly disappointed in Honda.
@captmarko
@captmarko 6 жыл бұрын
Ulti737fs how many features is somebody supposed to give up to have a car that looks like that? It doesn't cost them anything to make a Prius body vs an Insight body right..? I just can't believe how many things Honda dropped, and I don't know if they're out of touch, or if they're being cheap..
@EMichaelBall
@EMichaelBall 6 жыл бұрын
Most people want a crossover. If I were in the market for a ~$25K new car, I'd probably be looking at a Niro. That said, it would be better to get a used '14+ Nissan Leaf, if the commute is up to 25 miles per day, and you can charge at home or work. Much cheaper up front, cheaper to maintain and fuel, and just as reliable, if not more so, thanks to fewer moving parts of an EV. As for Honda, they're probably mailing it in, now; they're in GM "MAX PROFIT AT ALL COSTS!!!!" bean counter mode.
@mr.grumps3544
@mr.grumps3544 6 жыл бұрын
CaptainMarko The touring model is under 30k and this car is based off the Honda Civic. This car is basically a Civic Hybrid with a better design and different name. So based off the fact that this is basically a Civic and since Civics are the lowest end of the Honda vehicle lineup, it makes sense that they ommitted many features you would find in a Accord. I doubt you are looking to buy and are probably just like 90% of all viewers who just like to critique all the new vehicles being released, but if you ARE looking to buy then you could just go for the Accord hybrid instead if you want a Honda and a hybrid.
@captmarko
@captmarko 6 жыл бұрын
Blaine T Hi Blaine, please look up these features I believe are missing on the Insight's competitors products. The Ioniq, the Niro, and the Prius. Hell, even the Civic has some features that the "premium" Insight doesn't get, like the vents in the rear. Honda stated that this vehicle is slotted between the Civic and Accord, so I expect all Civic features, and a small amount of Accord features. The Accord still maintains things like the HUD, adaptive dampers, power and torque, size, etc. Am I being unrealistic? Or just requesting features found in the same class of car, a compact hybrid. I want this car, but maybe the Niro has more features I want, change my mind.
