I've been waiting for this moment for a big portion of my motorcycle-life. Finally it happened. It was everything I hoped for, and less.
When in Tallinn, Estonia and you need something Husqvarna (motorcycle related), then Freetime ;)

Great videos! How did you like your BMW X challenge? I’m looking at getting one used with 11,000 kms on it. That or a newer (but much more expensive) 690/701...

Having little to no prior experience with bikes this sort, I quite enjoyed the Xchallenge. It's light. Since it's a BMW the going is smooth. It's vibey, a bit more vibey than current single cylinders, but the difference isn't that huge. Current ones are vibey as well. For me the biggest nuisance was the air-shock in the rear. Since the temperature fluctuates a lot over here, it kept deflating. Or maybe it was just flawed. I know a lot of Xchallenge owners have replaced it with a conventional shock with great success. A used 11,000 km Xchallenge sounds quite good. I think I bought mine with similar milage. The Rotax engine will last ages. But I'd carefully examine all wires and rubber parts etc. Since they are inevitably old, time will probably have had its effect, unless good care has been taken. Then again - it has a relatively simple design so changing parts isn't all that difficult. I mean compared to more current machines. A newer 690/701 will probably be more agile and snappier, but that doesn't automatically mean better. Off-road I'd take slightly tamer machine any time. Though they are good workhorses and once they've gotten through some potential issues will last a long while. There's a reason why people love 'em. What I absolutely loved about the Xchallenge was its rarity. I've seen so many big wondering eyes at the notion, that this dirt-bike is a BMW. The only reason why I went with a brand new 701, is for one - I could, and I never had had a brand new vehicle before. And also after I got stranded on the BMW (ended up being a simple side-stand sensor problem), and some unfortunate events thereafter (the bike almost being burned down after an inner-city wildfire decimated an SUV right next to the bike), I had a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. Now - well over a year later, I must say, I do miss the Xchallenge.

Why did you go for the enduro? I'm having hard time to decide if I should go for the SM or the enduro...
@MargusMoto
@MargusMoto 4 жыл бұрын
To be honest, in the end it was mainly just a gut feeling.. It felt right. And to this date I can't say if it was the right one or not :D When I made the decision my reasoning was that first of all the SM is a bit more nervous which is annoying in the kind of traffic I spend most of the time in commuting daily. And second is the fact that the enduro is much more versatile. It can go everywhere. And with the right tires it can all but mach the performance of the SM in the twisties. At least the way I ride - I don't really push the envelope neither on the asphalt nor in the dirt. In ideal world I would love to own them both. Or get a set of sumo tires for my enduro. But it is quite expensive. And changing the wheels in the parking lot outside of my apartment building would be less than ideal... Having said that - the sumo looks so badass! ...and so I go - back and forth constantly which one is better, which one is more "right" :D

2 vids in 2 days, dude, you're hyperactive ! xD Looks like you had a lot of fun with that bike, looking at the video almost made me want to try it myself Sadly it lacks 3 cylinders lol I would probably go for the Sm version instead of the endure, but it's personnal choice =) Great ride Peace!

Yeah totally looks like you're riding in Sweden here. =P By the way, you should consider to start using LUT's when you edit. I'm assuming you dont, of if you do, you should change them. =)
@MargusMoto
@MargusMoto 5 жыл бұрын
I have considered using LUTs, but I haven't found ones that work for me yet. I film in pro-tune and color-grade by hand.. still figuring this stuff out :D
@Darkvisor
@Darkvisor 5 жыл бұрын
@@MargusMoto Do like I do, find a LUT that kinda looks good, then manually change things so you're happy with it and save it as your own LUT. Then you can use it always. =) Also look into using ND filters. =)

I need to get another bike, lighter. If I wouldn’t tour 2up, then 701 would be perfect... so I’m thinking about 300-350cc enduro bike
@MargusMoto
@MargusMoto 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if you already have a tourer, then something super light would make sense.

If only it was this simple.. I mean, it kinda is, but a second set of wheels with brakes and rotors and sprockets and the lot will cost a lot. Not to mention I wouldn't have any space to store a second set of wheels in my apartment... But indeed, I haven't quite buried the idea. Some day with a thicker wallet and in a bigger place (hopefully a garage) I will go for that option. I know the 701 is wonderful both ways.

In order to use engine braking on this bike you need to push down on your left toes twice. That's not a bad thing. In fact its so good, you can use this technique in the dirt.
@MargusMoto
@MargusMoto 5 жыл бұрын
That is true as by now I’ve discovered. It just takes time to get used to revving a single cylinder this high :D Loving the slipper clutch though 😄

Hmmm... nice in some ways, but I suspect not "the one"...

Exactly. One crucial flaw. Luckily there is one bike that addresses that flaw. But that will be the theme of the next video 😉
