The Hyundai Veloster looks like nothing else on the market, with an aggressive silhouette and distinctive 3-door layout. Redesigned for 2019, the Veloster is still available with either a naturally aspirated or turbo engine, and a range of manual, automatic, and dual-clutch transmissions, but it now sits on a new architecture that transforms it into an utterly engaging machine.
Shoppers will undoubtedly have mixed feelings about the Veloster’s 3-door design. But despite its unconventional styling, the 3rd door certainly makes entry and exit easier and safer than a 2-door coupe, as the third door sits on the passenger’s side of the car-no more climbing out into traffic.
Shoppers looking to get into a Veloster for the least money possible will settle for the 147-horsepower, 2.0-liter engine. If you want a turbo, the 1.6-liter turbo-4 will provide 201 horses.
Inside, the Veloster is less aggressively styled than past models. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, Hyundai offers an optional Infinity premium audio system, and a suite of safety features. I have a 2019 turbo Veloster automatic 7 speed, had a 2013 Veloster turbo 6 speed manual before. I also had 99 mustang GT 5 speed manual. the 2019 veloster is much faster than the 2013. its not the 0-60 beast that the 99 Mustang was. But I can get 33 mpg driving the speed limit on an interstate. In the 2019 Veloster at higher rural interstate traffic speeds 70 mph+ I can keep cameros and mustangs behind me with the 7 speed transmission. And yes I just got a ticket, cop said I was doing 90 but he was cool and knocked it down to 83 so I don't have to go to court.

Love the size of this car so much. Happy they offer IRS on all trims. If the Rspec had a LSD, I would buy it. Same as the now uglified Elantra Sport. I don't want to spend $30k ish for the N when all I want is a LSD with the 1.6L turbo. Honda understood this. Wish Hyundai would as well.

You could always buy a limited slip differential (LSD) for the veloster. That's what I would do if I EVER (but NOT likely) chose to trade my BK2 3.8 Genesis Coupe (FULL NA BUILD) for it.💯

In other markets, Hyundai makes right-hand drive versions with the door configuration "mirrored" with the passenger door on the left side. I think they can easily build a 4-door version since they have the components & mechanisms for it already.

I have a R Spec and i totally love it. But nobody mentions that you cant see out the back AT ALL. from 3-6 o'clock its bad. from 9-6 o'clock its ABYSMAL. Thats why they put that blind spot mirror there. No amount of craning, twisting, arching, turning or other forms of looking will give you a safe look in to your drivers side blind-spot. That said I love my little R-Spec... i really do...but i cant trust somebody who doesn't mention that super glaring fault. With some luck you can get one for under 20k so its not gonna be flawless....but lets not pretend its flawless!

Because even with all the bells n whistles the car is a low 25 thousand hell u can get them for 18k now they’re cheap cars had to cut out some things

I always thought the veloster was a cool little car. However, I rented a base model non-turbo and it was dangerously slow... very poor visibility as well. If you want a veloster the turbo is a must.

So what are the advantages of the Veloster R-Spec over say it's big brother, the Hyundai Elantra GT Sport, which seems to have better day to day practicality, with the same engine?

R-Spec Veloster Turbo got the new Turbo boost that start @ 1500rpm which make it go faster than Elantra GT sport. Also it's lighter, the steering, suspension are better in the Veloster Rspec than the i30/Elantra GT sport. And you get the very expensive sport tires with R spec for free. If you want to co crazy on backroads and corners go with the Veloster 2, if you are a 40 years old with kids but want to have fun sometimes get the Elantra GT sport
