Took the new IC around the block. I decided not to add commentary to this video so you could hear the bus running.

Confession: I’ve never ridden in a bus with a “nose.” All of the busses in my school district were transit style or “flat-nose” busses. The older ones had the engines up front beside the driver and starting in around 2000, they put the engines in the back. Which I never understood because it made the rear Emergency Exit into a window and very high off the ground

How did u like driving it... Ours dont have any power with those transmissions
@SwannBus6 жыл бұрын
Andrew Kay you’re not alone, I’ve heard several people say the same thing. I went directly to Eaton and told them what I wanted. They helped me choose the right rear axle ratio (5.29) that would deliver the performance I wanted while still being able to achieve decent fuel economy. Lastly, the Eaton Procision is highly customizable, so they programmed my transmission for performance.
@andrewkay29896 жыл бұрын
Yours looks like it has plenty of power... Yea the people that orders our buses dont know how to order them... Those we got hate hills 15-30 pulling hills... We took one to dc the other day an it was like omg... Are we ever going to get there... An when ours hits about 4th gear it bogs right on down... Imma blue bird man..

Andrew Kay sorry to hear that. Have your shop manager call Eaton, they will come and reprogram it. Sometimes a slow bus can be a safety issue.

Love the sound of that transmission. Not as good as the old Allison at545 but it sounds better than the modern Allison's they have now.
@SwannBus5 жыл бұрын
Chad Streeter agree 💯, I love the 7th gear on the highway when we do trips. The Cummins has enough torque to keep it in those higher gears.
@granitedude3334 жыл бұрын
The only thing I don't like about those Eaton Procision transmissions is the "whine" they make while driving. I had a Freightliner M2 box truck from Penske last year with the same engine/trans combo as your bus, and it sounded exactly the same. I will say though, I think it had more power than the Cummins/Allison combos I've had in the past.
@vinceschannel89273 жыл бұрын
The Allison is so much smoother than the Eaton. We have the Eaton in our 2019 Visions and it’s awful. It makes the bud drive slow

@@SwannBus does it take a while to "break in"? You should be getting optimal performance out of it when its brand new lol. Does this bus have a run or is it for trips?
@SwannBus5 жыл бұрын
Jerry Sylvester optimal performance on a B-Series Cummins happens around 100k miles. This engine is known to “loosen up” around 30k miles. It has a daily route and also does the majority of our trip work. It was built to do double duty and is excelling at it.

That Eaton you have definitely is more responsive than the predecessor to it that I have driven! Doesn't seem to be too concerned about getting into those high RPMs when downshifting either. The old one would take forever to pick a gear and then hold it forever, even when slowing down. It's good to see they worked a lot of this out! Does it roll back much when you are stopped on a steep hill and switch between gas and brake? I think they designed it not to do that! Great video!
@SwannBus6 жыл бұрын
crazyjdkid Eaton brought me up to their proving grounds to demonstrate how this transmission worked. I was able to talk directly with engineers about my thoughts and expectations. Although the Eaton has been out for some time, I’m the first in MD to spec one. We’ll see how it goes!
@SwannBus6 жыл бұрын
Oh, it doesn’t roll back “Hill Helper Assist”. The “Tap-Down Braking” almost makes the engine brake unnecessary.

@SwannBus6 жыл бұрын
Jerry Sylvester thank you, I went to Eaton and their engineers to help choose the right axle ratio. Many contractors are choosing tall gears (4:30-4:88) but their buses are really slow off the line. Eaton suggested a 5:29 for performance and the double overdrive of the Procision still gets better MPGs than a traditional torque converter. I’m a nerd and geek out on this stuff. I’m working on being more concise.
@jerrysylvesterjr6 жыл бұрын
Adam D our company must've done that (ordered taller gears) because none of our Cummins have any power whatsoever. Our older girls have a lot more pickup.
