@@autumntx managing a gas pump would mean theyd need vendors for gasoline and a whole set of people dedicated to fuelling. i work as a mechanic for a truck leasing agency, our location has our own diesel, def, and gas pumps to service customers/drivers and i can tell you now it loses money just to maintain the infrastructure and keep buying the fuels and fluid to fill it compared to simply handing a driver a fuel card for the local speedway. Ha ehh, idk about brutal. The associates that work at the delivery stations have it brutal lol. But it's all some form of team work in the end so whatever -for example i have to get a 60yr old woman to run across the warehouse to collect and put his route together for delivery. She needs to complete it in X amount time and those totes can get pretty darn heavy for even a fit young man. She has to do at least 4 of these routes and that's after already working for 6hrs unloading, sorting, and stowing all the packages for the day. Modern day/ western sweatshop But without drivers customers wouldn't get packages. Without warehouse associates drivers wouldn't get packages. Team work!

@@LaosHouse Definitely can confirm about FedEx lol. My truck is loaded for me every morning, although some mornings my truck is a complete disaster and I have to reorganize the entire thing anyways lol. I'm lucky to where I can start my day pretty much whenever as long as my timed deliveries are met and most days I am done before 4pm. Other drivers in my hub don't get back until well after 6 since they have heavy business routes with 5pm pickups, so I would say I lucked out.

At my warehouse, we can help drivers load up their vans, if we have enough headcount to spare and so long as we aren't falling behind staging routes. Since we start at around 8:50 - 9 AM after sort is done, and the first wave of drivers isn't until 9:30-ish. At most we have around 4 people each, on our two launchpads helping with load out. Driving that close to people in a van would stress me out ontop of not knowing where to put a package in a big building would give me an unbearable amount of anxiety, plus being pushed to go faster by your boss. For the USPS we have to scan every individual Amazon/USPS barcode and our scanner will say a sequence number 1-1200 based on the house number. We then write that number on the white paper sticker and then organize thee lower numbers towards the front as we drive our daily routes. Usually we get 2 tubs of boxes/packages, some routes that are larger get 3 tubs.

I typically do rural routes so it was interesting to see you navigate multi story office buildings. For me 100 stops 150 packages is a lot lol. However rural is more spread out. I also did XL and 50 stops is a lot for them. While there are things I will miss about the job. I will not miss being overworked by Amazon. I was starting to get burned out. They used to give us gas cards, but drivers weren't putting accurate mileage in or saving recipients, and gas theft got bad. We have a company that comes at night. BTW, Amazon states not to put the package directly in front of the door. Between porch pirates and the package being in the open, to people not being able to open the door or stepping on them. I recommend actually wearing the seatbelt properly tho, especially since you have more consequences for any infractions you get with a DOT cert. Pretty much the only meaningful advantage of the EDVs other than COOOLLLD A/C and cooled seats is you mostly get the StepVan experience without needing the cert since the vehicle weighs like, 9000 lbs I believe?

Do you guys have have a system of any sort that you put all your delivery's in the truck that tells the best way to make those delivery's. Like some type of system that knows all your delivery's and it prints out the best way and tells you the order in which to deliver them in? Hopefully that makes sense but also you may address that later in the video and I should have watched it to the end to ask questions. I use the excuse that I'm older than dirt and if I don't ask while I am thinking about it because I would probably forget it if I didn't ask at the time. 👍🇨🇦

I was wondering if this is something that is just allowed or normal in the US or do all of the customers have a a storage location (so like "leave it at the front door")? I can only tell from my experience but at DHL you need permission from the customer to leave their package somewhere, else you have to dleiver them to them in person or bring them to a pickup shop or to a package locker (like the amazon locker).

I’m a straight driver for a DSP in Venice, FL that covers Punta Gorda. How can I get in contact with you? I’m actively searching for literally any job that can compensate for more than what I’m making now. I’m barely paying my bills, saving absolutely nothing, and my rent increases in 2 months.

Only thing I like driving is step vans, the way I load up, all the overflow is separated by streets, and I keep my overflow on the right side of the van, and my bags on the left. I put 6 bags on the top shelves and the rest of the bags on the floor.
