2019 Infiniti QX80 | Still A Good Deal

Infiniti's biggest vehicle in America soldiers on for 2019 with minimal changes making most of the QX80 about 9 years old. The obvious downside to this is that it feels less modern than options like the Navigator or Escalade, but Infiniti fights back with a sticker price that undercuts them all by a considerable margin. Does that compensate for the age of the QX? Let's find out.

Hey Alex, the center console is removable, a pain in the ass to do, but it is removable. In fact, the tools needed to remove it is located with the tools to change out the spare tire. I believe it's a T40 bit and 10mm or 12mm socket or wrench (Nissan provides an T40 Allen wrench and 2 combination wrenches). Nissan also sells a floormat that will cover the middle and rear section once you remove the center console.

One of the best, complete, informational reviews out there. Bought my 2019 QX80 six months ago with 60,000 miles on it (has 70,000 now) drove it 3,000 miles recently to visit the kids in another state and I must say that long-distance travel in the QX is the best, most relaxed trip I ever took. The 5.6 engine reacts like a rocket when passing (must be careful because you might get it up to 100+ MPH without noticing [because it feels like 70 MPH]), the ride is super quiet, relaxed and, in spite of the outdated media and atrocious gas mileage, I love my QX80. Best to all.

Aye I think they are just biding their time until they can release their electric/hybrid platforms in 2021-2022, I suspect it will be much like the early 2000's where they have a large list of awesome products and then they get lazy and don't upgrade them for 10 years again.

Tell me about it. I got 2018 Q50S and the infotainment inside is depressing to use and look at it. No Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, laggy, no customizations, ancient looking Navigation with a scrolling smoothness of a 10 years old android. It is a joke, but I will manage with it for another two years (it is a lease). I cant wait to dump it.

I love this SUV......except for the ancient tech inside. Love the look, the interior materials, the power and the ride quality. Easy to see why it sells so well. But Infiniti slacked off in the refresh, and didn't update the tech inside. They rested on their laurels. For less than $70k, it is a strong buy, but for anything more, it needs better tech to compete.

I just purchased a one year old QX80 with 24000 miles on it for 41000. That is about 15000 less than a comparable Navigator or Escalade. I drove all 3 of these vehicles and the QX80, by far, out drove the other two. When I purchase a vehicle I care about how it drives, it is a car by the way, rather than the screens that I can get on it. It is a great value and gives a wonderful ride. I truly think the Navigator and Escalade are way overpriced.

Waaay too expensive when you could get a Navigator. The tech is old, the engine is old, the styling is old. And Alex gives it all these "A"??? Sounds like politics to me. But I will be fair: Doug DeMuro also likes to play politics with his evaluation so that it fits in his graph where he wants it to fit. But overall, the facts are there and most times I agree. Today, I feel the grades did not match the facts.

I believe there’s a lot to be had with this SUV, but I do not believe the price is reflective of the datedness and relative obsolescence of some aspects. For the money there are objectively nicer and more modern vehicles, but incentivized buyers that need the capabilities of a truck with added premium features and people-carrying capacity, it’s not a bad option.
@stevornrichards1380
@stevornrichards1380 5 жыл бұрын
What's dated about this SUV?
@DarrenPersad
@DarrenPersad 5 жыл бұрын
The entire underlying architecture is dated in design and implementation, and much of technology the driver interacts with has largely remained unchanged in its past several iterations growing only marginally more comprehensive and usable as updates have rolled out. Although many appreciate the traditional body-on-frame architecture, this is a thoroughly traditional implementation of that design and has scarcely improved throughout the QX’s lifetime. The vehicle rides smoothly, but wallows. It is a vague, indirect driving experience that does isolate the driver, but also numbs them of all feel and feedback. It has poor road manners and generally handles itself without true composure. Although it can be said that the QX implements an independent suspension design in both the front and rear, the inherent drawbacks of using the old architecture stand. The interiors are busy, not necessarily complex, but not altogether very intuitive, and that extends to the technology. Interacting with a lot of Infiniti’s systems can be cumbersome when you really dig into the feature sets, and they’re just not as polished and refined as some of the competition. Although Infiniti has paced with the competition in including more technologies, so take that for what you will. Where the experience really hurts is in price to performance ratios, and I mean that in more than just raw numbers; I mean the whole experience (towing capability notwithstanding, as the benefit to using the traditional V8 and BoF design allow for exceptional numbers in that regard). Infiniti materials, fitment, quality, and attention to detail has always been good. Never outstanding, never really above par, just good. Their prices are unjustifiably high for the mediocre numbers and average (for the class) experience, and I would largely class this as high premium than true luxury for that reason. You can find a much better experience in its Lexus rival, and most of the more contemporary competition from Lincoln, Cadillac, Volvo, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and any number of other marques. Obviously, it’s up to the buyers at the end of the day. I’m generally a luxury car buyer, not a luxury SUV buyer, but as a luxury buyer in general, this has never been a consideration, nor do I ever expect it to be, unless Nissan pulls their act together from the bottom up.

But unlike what the video suggested I would buy this over the GLS well because from a reliability standpoint. The LX/land cruiser you keep for 10+ years. there is a reason why they cost much more and they have one of the best resale value of any SUV outside of the G wagon.

Turn signals at the bottom of the bumper???? Infiniti is not the first to adopt the stupid design that moves the turn signals down on the rear end but this is the most extreme version I've seen. Apart from being vulnerable to the slightest parking parking lot collision, don't designers recognize the huge reduction in rear end collisions when the high mounted third brake light was mandated some years ago? Putting warning indicators in the sight line of a driver following the vehicle is common sense. Third seat room? Looks to be about the same as my KIA Sorento in a vehicle a foot and a half longer. Cargo space behind the third row for luggage/gear 5-7 passengers need for longer trips? Less than most midsize crossovers. No Apple CarPlay/Android Auto? What year is this? Who buys/leases the QX80? That's not meant sarcastically. I don't tow so perhaps I'm missing the value that Alex notes on that score but even for those who drag their homes around behind their vehicles the QX80 doesn't appear to be the best choice. So is the QX80 just a placeholder for Infiniti in a market space where it needs an offering but not worth putting any significant effort into competing?

Infiniti is so lazy, they are just banking on old non-car people to buy this with their retirement money...

Nissan is the laziest car company on the plane. Nothing fresh, act like full revisions are an act of God. Well on it's way to becoming the Plymouth of Japanese car companies.

I agree. Of all the car companies on the plane, Nissan is the laziest.

Witness their now-jailed former CEO. It's just corrupt from top to bottom. In business just to enrich a select few with zero interest in customers or employees.

@@alliejr Yep. A classic example of Gen-X'ers' total ruination of the business world. But to them, willful stupidity and poor quality work are the way "mature and experienced" adults live their lives.

This SUV really isn't worth the price unless you just want to pay more for a vehicle that just seems dated.

You'd think Nissan would get serious and stay current especially in this segment. This vehicle in 2007 as it sits here would be innovative and be respectable giving the luxuriant nameplate. Nowadays this vehicle is dated and overly priced and not reliable and only uses premium fuel or the engine will suffer. Look at Lexus, Lincoln and Cadillac for big luxury suv's.
