That is one brilliant review of a fantastic bike. I recently traded in my triumph Speed Twin for the Z900RS and there is just no comparison between the two, the RS is by far the better bike in my opinion. Again in my opinion it is the best looking bike on the road and the ride and sound of this bike is perfect. The best bike I have owned by far in many years of motorcycling.

I have owned the green cafe version since Easter and done 8000km on it since April. Absolutely gorgeous bike and so many details to be discovered while doing miles on it. Never seazes to amaze me how much know-how went into it. Just came back from the Austrian alpes and turns out it's wonderful for touring too. Could not be happier.

Don't worry about the touchy throttle... After a thousand kilometers, you get used to it, and it becomes very responsive! I agree with his opinion of the bike. I've had mine for three years, and I' m in love!

I’ve owned the “Jaffa” Z900RS for 18 months, the best color in my opinion. Every time I stop people want to talk about the bike. I’ve done 16,000 kms so far. You are right about the fuelling, it was pretty awful until I fitted the Booster Plug module (made in Denmark), that fixed the problem 99%. When the bike is out of warranty I’ll get a ECU re-flash. Every time I ride it I feel good, and that’s how you know it’s a good bike! It’s got plenty of power and torque, good handling, good brakes, looks superb, what more could a guy want?

Hey Scott, as you're doing your reviews in English I'd like to comment in your language even while being a German. It's not hard to explain why you're so outstanding in the vast field of reviewers for me. You've not only got the claim to ride like there's nothing to prove, you are the man who's got nothing to prove - because he acts like there's nothing to prove. Your reviews are so refreshing and up to the point with ease of delivering that's becoming a benchmark for the rest of the crowd. Even the so-called professionals who almost all of the time do nothing but baby-powder the butt of the industry. I really enjoy your style and love your assessments on the bikes. This one here in particular. You made me decide on it - that's why I'm going to check out the Kawasaki Z900RS in the next days. Keep your style and keep it up. Would love to ride with you like there's nothing to prove in your area where I was born near by. Two thumbs way up for your review - very good job! :)

Thank you Veit, But I'm an American that is why my English is so good :) My German is terrible, my 5 year old son speaks better German than I do, in fact when him and I are out and about he has to translate German for me! I liked ever thing about this bike except for one criticism, the throttle on/off is a little too abrupt. But most guys say that they get used to it and still love the bike or they do an after market map that fixes it. And YES, shoot me an email this spring and we can do a ride together! Take care and ride safe, Scott

@NothingToProve - Moin Gude, well what can I say...I ended up not buying one but getting an almost "new" Suzuki GSX1250FA. It'll support my future needs best and is the kind of bike I've always dreamt of, except for the fairing. Nevertheless, I really like it. Maybe we could meet this autumn or next spring and enjoy riding some klicks together. And if you like, I'm planning on riding every day as long as it's not totally icy on the roads. Have waited for it for far too long to not do it "because any day is a good day one can be out on two wheels" 😎. Going to share some of my experiences on a separate YT channel - from being an absolute beginner to whatever level I might climb to. I know the "Dicke" is pretty much the stumb puller par excellence but I consider myself set enough to always respect that fact. Keep enjoying your rides - and I'll keep enjoying your reviews.

My cafe is so reminiscent of that bike with far better handling.. I love how twitchy and flickable the bike is. tons of power and torque I love the power wheelie this bike does. Did you ever hear the story about the original Z900. Kawasaki was racing Honda to get the 750cc inline 4 cyl. to the market and lost that race. Well the smart engineers at Kawasaki convinced management that they should postpone the 750cc program in favor of a Z900 Honda killer. Thus was born a monster of a muscle bike which did smoke the CB750. I personally loved both of those bikes.

Nice review and channel. Own a Triumph Bobber and this Z900RS. Both great, but the Kawasaki is still my favorite. This bike is just fantastic in any way, nothing to criticise to be honest. Ok maybe two things. I should get bar-end mirrors, and the radiator looks kinda tacked on. But comfort, speed, torque, looks, reliability etc... can't imagine ever selling it. Got already 15K km on it. Wife even allows me to sell both bikes to get my 'dream' bike (a HD Breakout or Low Rider S) but won't do that because I will NOT sell this Kawa. Got the Brown one btw, in Belgium.

Hello Scott, great video, i have so much fun with this bike. like you said its an all rounder, beautiful and great to ride bike. its unique, and the sound of her, amazing. as always your videos are totally different from all others. i´ve crossed Spain with her, from Portugal to mediterranean, and it is a wonderful ride and very confortable for travelling. As you said in your video , its a retro bike bulletfproof with exclusive ergonomics. i also put the screen from Puig and the the riding is very confortable to 130 km/h no buffering at all. you can ride 800 kms per day without complaint, the riding triangle is unique, looks like a retro with a scrambler riding triangle. well thats all. ride safe.

Hi Scott! I bought a 2018 Z900RS about 2 months ago. I've found that the gear shifting is not smooth. Engaging the first gear gives a very loud 'clank' that shakes the whole bike. Shifting up and down is accompanied by all sorts of clanking and knocking sounds. And, while I was riding the bike, the engine has shut off by itself at least 5 times over the past 2 months. I've brought the bike back to the dealer numerous times and they've found no problem. I'm at my wits end! Otherwise, the Z900RS is a joy to ride. I like the smooth delivery of power and the exhaust sound.

I’ve got a 2018 Z900RS I bought new. Could be your clutch is not adjusted properly? As for engine cutting out, mine did that sometimes when taking off at the lights, the idle speed was too low. I think that happens when the engine wears in. I reset it to 1100 rpm, no more cutting out.

@NothingToProve
@NothingToProve 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Alessandro, oh, these are two bikes that go about riding in two different ways. The RS is the traditional 70s look and feel in-line 4 cyl. The Speed goes back even further to the 1930s and it looks like it too. And the torque is way down low in the rev-range. But performance wise, they are about the same but I like the looks and the torque delivery the Speed Twin a little more than the RS. Don't get me wrong the RS is a great bike, they both are, it just comes down to what one wants in a bike. Take care, Scott

Wow great review and I like your delivery format, the Z1 in the early 70’s was the bike that made me want to ride bikes. You are absolutely correct, if you were a boy or teenager at that time, it plays so heavily on your nostalgia. I have owned the Jaffa (what the Yanks call Rootbeer) coloured Z900rs for 18 months. I have added the crome grab rail, the retro badging to the tank, fender eliminator, akra headers, power commander and hi flow air filter. This reduces the weight by 8kgs and increases the pony’s up to around 120BHP. The result is it livens the bike up, giving it that truly linear inline four roll on, plus delivers plenty of smiles, if you want to muscle it you can, the fun meter starts at about 6500rpm 😁

I received my new 2018 Z900RS about 2 weeks ago. So, the bike is still rather new to me. Can I switch the KTRC modes from 1 to 2, or "off" while on the move? Or, do I have to stop and put the gear into neutral before doing the switching, as advised by my Kawasaki dealer? My bike's engine switched off by itself a couple or times while I was decelerating at traffic stops. Someone commented in another review that this is due to a defect in the electronic fuel injection system. Is this a problem with other bikes or is it only with mine? My dealer said it might be due to a low engine idling speed and suggested that I tune it to 1100 or 1200rpm. At the moment, it is at 1000rpm.

I remember switching that while riding this bike, just have to go all the way off throttle and or pull in the clutch, there are so many bikes that I ride I don't remember exactly what "hoops" you have to just through to do but I do remember changing it while riding. Ride safe, Scott

1000 rpm is too low. It needs to be 1100-1200, otherwise it stalls at the lights.

I know I’m late to the review, but I’m in the market for a bike like this. I’m torn between this or the triumph speed twin 1200 (2019). I know the suspension is a huge complaint for the triumph, but I’d be getting ohlins or fox suspension in it eventually. I’m 6 ft tall and weigh about 215lbs. Is there anything you or anyone can tell me leaning in one direction or the other. I will also say the speed twin is at the dealer and the kawa would have to be ordered. Please anyone let me know your thoughts.

I'd take the Speed Twin over this any day. It's just more bike and looks better but that's me. This kind of bike is a personal choice, just like picking a girl friend, so if I were you, take the one that "moves you" the most and you'll always be happy every time you open the garage door 👍😁 take care, Scott P.S. You can get the Twin now, ordering you may have to wait till next year or get right at the end of the riding season 🤞

I tried both and went for the z900rs. The speed twin is a great bike but it just felt thin and small to me like a bike I would like a Sunday blast on, the zed felt more substantial and better for longer rides. My thoughts obviously After owning 2 modern triumphs previously I lost faith in the reliability in comparison What did you choose ?

Great review! Torn between this and the Aprilia Shiver 900. Any feedback on the two as you've tested both?
@NothingToProve
@NothingToProve 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Adam, well, these are two different bikes. A naked and a classic. So really depends of what you want. And also the RS is about 3k more than the Shiver. If you want to save some money, then the Shiver. Both bikes perform well, I'd say at about the same level, although the shiver would probably take the RS on the track. Better brakes and suspension. Engine wise they are different too, V-Twin vs inline 4. Wet weights are about the same too. Both are very good bikes to own and keep over time, they both just do every thing as a good naked/standard should. Good luck with trying to pick, Ride safe, Scott

Yes they are the Trilobite Parado's 661. I wear the 34" waist and I wear a 34" waist in Levi's too. Usually take a 31/32" inseam so the normal length, since they only come in two sizes, normal and long. I'm 1.76m and around 82kg. They are great for those hot days, lots of air flow through them but yet good protection. Ride safe, Scott

I couldn't stand to ride a sport bike when I was 19 or now at 36. But THIS I think I can ride ! Retro seating without being all hunched up. Be a tough choice between the 900RS and Verseys 1000 for me. Still leaning toward verses 1000 for the comfort. I just wanna enjoy a inline 4 engine before I'm dead. I'm bored with big v twins

The design flaw I find on this model is the lack of twin rear shocks, as the orinal model had, and the twin exhaust (just like the Honda's CB1100RS), other than that is a great bike.
@wirenut3020
@wirenut3020 3 жыл бұрын
But then it wouldn’t handle as well. Yeah, I like this double walled exhaust better than the twin exhaust and I’ve seen some twin exhaust “upgrades” , I like the stock look better. Win for me if I get one. I’ll leave it stock, especially the rear fender.

I think they did the 4 into 1 to save on weight. A lot of people switched to the 4 into 1 back in the 70's. The original Z1's exhaust system was very heavy.
