Although not quick by today's standards, the Picanto GT would match some 1980s hot hatches from 0-100 km/h so this might be a good car for more mature drivers who want to relive their youth without breaking the bank. Similarly, the low insurance grouping and modest running costs might appeal to young drivers who want a bit of affordable speed. (Good and informative short video btw)

9 second 0-100 was fast car territory in the early 80's! Of course things got a lot faster in the 90's By it's weight and price, I would consider it myself

This is what the car is aimed at 5 speed manual turbo small engine. The 1985 Nissan exa turbo 1.5 and the 1.8 Mitsubishi corda turbo unleaded had the same power and torque as the kia g3lc 1.0 turbo 88kw not the detuned kia 74kw.

We bought one of these back in October 2018 and we are most impressed. 99 bhp may not sound a lot, but the car only weighs just over 1000kg. It always feels eager (the mid-range pull is especially good) and it's great to leave the teens in their Corsas behind at the lights. The car isn't badged 'turbo', just 'GT-line S' so people don't expect it to leap away like it does. One of the British car mags tested it and got 0-60 mph (100k) in 9.1 secs, so it's no slouch.

I purchased one for myself feb 2020, honestly a great car but Kia shouldn't have taken the 20HP away. The Rio with the same engine makes 120HP! With that extra 20HP the car would be doing 0-100 in the low 9's or high 8's all day. Kia's Picanto GT cup cars make between 140-160HP ATW so there's a bit extra in there if you're brave.

I've driven the 1.2 and it was great fun. What surprised me was the space inside and build quality. Ride was choppy over rough roads but good otherwise

Say that to Porsche that reach 120 on second gear on a manual car . For example what kill the time on the Suzuki zc33 turbo 1400 it's that you have to change the gear to 3rd at 90kilometers per hour- in that moment you lost time ! That's why I prefer reaching 100kmh on second my friend

@@swiftsportcolombia Yes but the porsche has so much power that it isnt an issue, traction is though. The Kia has so little power that it needs an extra gear. And if you say you loose time when shifting. You cant shift my friend xD The acceleration wouldve been improved if it had an extra gear (second only reaching 80)

Better off with Suzuki Swift 1 litre Boosterjet. It has 109 bhp, its a bigger car but weighs less so better power to weight ratio. Its a far more comfortable ride and a better package all round. Then again, its a different class of car I guess. Personally if I wanted a fast and fun city car id go for the VW Up GTI. The standard Up is a great car, even on long journeys but seeing videos on here, the GTI version looks ace, sounds great and its such fun for the money. Thats what these cars are about. Not for being a knob, showing off doing 100 in 50 zones in a lease BMW etc. Yes, lease LOL, because you live with your mum and dad, you dont drink alcohol, have no hobbies and you drive round towns in the north of England every night trying to impress young women, pretending you are rich. Need I say more. People fail to understand that you can enjoy driving within the speed limit.

The Kia makes more torque than the Swift Turbo, the Kia is also like $5000 cheaper. The VW Up is not available in Australia anymore, it was removed from the market for poor sales. I actually just purchased a Picanto GT and am awaiting delivery, interesting that Kia de-tuned the engine for the Picanto, the Rio has about 20HP more with the same engine. There are some dyno tuners out there managing to score 230nm/140whp from the little engine, I think that would be enough to surprise many larger 4 cylinder cars out there.

@@kd2833 Its the 100 hp 75 kw 1.0 you got to know how to drive it and shift the gears the low down torque gives the 1.0 thrust and makes its move from the start feather the clutch.

I have just done the mods I wanted. My 2019 picanto gt with a bluespark automotive tuning box a throttle controller a 2 inch high flow cat back exhaust and eibach lowered springs. Turns this car from a everyday microcar mild hatch into a pocket rocket hot micro car hatch I am getting 100kw and 225nm of torque at the wheels 0 100 in 7.8 seconds quite fast for a micro car I must say. All the mods cost me just shy of $2000.

Yeah it just has a single coming out of the muffler box. I asked the service techs and they think i can get away with changing the exhaust without voiding warranty

Well i think the best i can get is a 'should be right' there is no way they would put that in writing. Ideally i would love to put an intercooler and full exhaust from turbo back but that would require retune so i guess i should wait it out. But cat back exhaust wouldnt effect too much. Interior engine sound is great compared to over 3cyl 1L but thats not saying much

Ecoboost is not reliable and Kia build quality far superior to Ford, plus a lot longer warranty.
