The one thing I really love about the 300 is the way it hooks up in the slippery stuff. Roll through a corner in 3rd and slip the clutch through mid corner and out the exit and it just grabs all kinds of drama free thrust,while other riders are swerving all over trying to get hooked up. Deceptively fast.

yep! exactly right. I watched one of my older videos last night on my 250F and it SOUNDS like I am going so much faster in that video, but im not. this 300 is just gurgling up and down the trail constantly in 3rd gear barley making a sound but it's actually movin haha. I love sneaking up on people. They literally cannot hear me coming up behind them until im right on their ass lol.

SkinnySkinch I need to ride one of the newer counter balanced models. See if alot of that open class feel and gyroscopic mass , lack of nimbleness is gone with the vibration.
@SkinnySkinch

markmtbrider hey man feel free to test mine out. I never rode a non counter balanced ktm 2 stroke 300 so I have nothing to compare it to. I do have a yz295(well it’s my buddies now) and that is way more nimble than my brand new ktm 300, but not as smooth.
@markmtbrider
@markmtbrider 6 жыл бұрын
@@SkinnySkinch that is interesting, that the big bore kit didn't give the yz that big bike feel. Years ago, too many, I owned a yz490, then a cr500 , then an xr600 since I live somewhat close Scott Summers, and I never gave it much thought about how much energy it took to ride them. Now I am keenly aware. Lol

markmtbrider haha yep I hear ya on that. And no I had Eric gorr do the “mo Betta” porting and the bike was super tamed from a regular YZ250. It did have wayyy more low end grunt as well. Shit for top end.

Hare Scrambles are so much fun. In D36 in CA if you sign up as a new rider you get put in the C class unless you can prove you are a AA or Pro rider. That means that even in my 50+ C Senior class the leaders (top 3-5) are almost always A or B riders. So basically if I finish 5th I would consider it winning my class.

Haha thanks, Dave! I was wondering when you or Sam was going to catch me I pretty much rode alone the whole race after the first lap. I did go down once actually forgot about it on the hill climb when another rider crashed in front of me. Just kinda dropped the bike though wasn't a real crash. My first race without any crashes or tip overs!

at 28:50 the comment you made is close to the same i was thinking. not in a negative way but you really need to pay attention and try to get a good start cause its probably the most important part in a tight race like this, as im sure you would know from experience. and obviously its easier talking from a spectator standpoint but im also a rider. great race though man, keep up the vids :)
@SkinnySkinch
@SkinnySkinch 5 жыл бұрын
Hey sorry I missed this comment! and yes you are right. I absolutely think the starts matter. if I start poorly and get stuck behind the bottle necks early on I am playing catchup the entire race. if I get out front early I am basically setting the pace for everyone else behind me. it's def a pattern I am noticing. I think the tighter the course the more important the start can be. thanks for the kind words!

Its been raining up and down the east coast for all of us, but at least your course is still fast and ride able and actual fun..Up here in NY we race from mudhole to mudhole, waiting in line while riding with no goggles..not fun..I gotta move down that way!.. Nice racing!
@SkinnySkinch
@SkinnySkinch 6 жыл бұрын
haha dang that does NOT sound enjoyable. You race WNYOA? The course was super fun one of my favorite for sure. A lot of these mountain courses drain really well so all this rain we been having doesn't sit for long. We have been very lucky. I race in 3 different series so if one cancels the others bound to not so pretty lucky that I have 3 different series close enough to race. Thanks man!

Yep I have seen Kalib Russell win the overall Pro XC1 class GNCC on a 2015 KTM 150XC against all 450s.. he did it as a charity thing to raise money. but he still rides a big 4 stroke just like the rest of them in a normal race. Yes smaller bikes are fast I get your point.

Im actually running Vet C this year in NCHSA. I Run Vet C in VCHSS and Mideast but NCHSA rulebook was a little different. I turned 30 on January 5th of last year but NCHSA said I had to be 30 on January 1st to run Vet C for that season. So my old ass was trying to hang with all you young bucks in 20+ just for this series lol.

Couple questions , have you had a chance to see how many miles you can go on a tank of gas yet? And is that a rear hand break or are you using the clutch that much with the recluse , I have never ridden with one of those.
@SkinnySkinch
@SkinnySkinch 6 жыл бұрын
blair gardner hey there I haven’t seen how long I can go on a full tank but I was going to make a video on how much gas I use in a full race compared to a carb’d 300. I use about 1/3 of a tank in an hour and 45 minute race. I’m not a fast racer as you can see pretty easy on the throttle but that’s still great mileage. Yes rekluse and no, not handbrake. I use the clutch still a lot to modulate the power. Sometimes I forget the rekluse is there too and use clutch when I don’t need to. Still learning.

Trust me anyone with a GOPRO knows how well the camera flattens out roots, ruts, rocks and hills, just doesn't do it for the stomach hahaha. When I see shinny red dirt I automatically figure it's a slick nasty section. I have learned to watch how the trees are growing compared to the landscape to give a more accurate feel for trail steepness I also like to watch the front fender to see how rough a trail is. Man I got tired just watching. Stay safe

hahaha yeah you're smart. a lot of people will watch and act like oh thats flat ground why are you so slow. when I re watch my videos I honestly think the same thing sometimes im like damnit I know I could go faster why aren't i. but then I get back out there and im like ohhhh now I remember.. bc its NOT FLAT!

No Beta, Sherco, or Gas Gas. Just from lack of dealerships near by?
@SkinnySkinch
@SkinnySkinch 6 жыл бұрын
I do see a few of them from time to time but not many. At the Battle of the GOATS extreme enduro a month ago I saw a ton of Sherco's and Betas. Gas Gas dont seem to be very popular around here. My local KTM dealer has Beta and GasGas but hes got 2 or 3 left over 2017 model gas gas and theyre about to be selling the 2019s. not sure why but they dont sell around here. I have Never personally ridden any of the 3.

I'd love to. I have too many bikes but I need to broaden the diversity a little. They're all KTM/Huskys and my trusty YZ250 that ill never sell. I really want to try a Sherco as well. I hear they have a really light and nimble feeling to them.

Some people can’t afford to buy a new bike every time they want one. So guys on motocross bikes are using them for double duty. Easy on the the Moto-x bikes man. Probably making do with what he’s got.

haha man I got so aggravated by that I dont even know why, I had to edit out some choice words lol. I dont know if he was even a kid I just think he was a shorter guy that likes to ride 85cc bikes. In the moment I was just on cruise control and anything that stops me would make me tired and I didnt have the energy to burn so it pissed me off haha. it looked like he had no business being on that hill. the other reason was I missed that hill the first 2 laps, then on that lap was my first attempt at it and of course some guy almost takes me out hahaha I was just like DAMNIT just my luck!

dude when I looked at him as he walked his bike down by me he looked like an adult. I assumed it was a young kid bc the 85cc bike. however he was in front of me for almost 3 full laps so he definitely aint a slow rider lol. even if he started in front row he was only 2 minutes head start on me. he got so damn wild on that hill I have no idea how you loose it that badly lol. ive done some dumb shit before too though so not much room to talk. yes I know. when I watch my videos I am like screaming at the computer screen like PASS HIM PASS HIM theres a clean line theres another theres another. makes me so mad lol.

Being nice has nothing to do with it. Make clean passes when you can. The guy in front does not have to move over for you. And if he is in your class, he won't. Don't take the other guy down, just pass.
@SkinnySkinch
@SkinnySkinch 6 жыл бұрын
I know I know. I just worry about bumping someone that isn't as good of a rider and making them go down. We're all just out here to have fun. I am not very aggressive person naturally either so I tend to just sit behind them until they let me by or I find a spot wide enough to make a clean pass.

This bike is too much for you! Not being a jerk but watch the video yourself and you will notice that you were no where near the speed this bike is capable of running. You would most likely be a faster rider with less bike.
@SkinnySkinch
@SkinnySkinch 5 жыл бұрын
Yep you're right man it's wayyyy too much bike for 99% of people who ride it lol. The only people I see riding bikes to their full potential are the top 5 professional motocross/supercross riders to be completely honest. But I get your point and I actually have a reason for riding the 300 over a smaller bike that I could use more of its potential. If you look at my channel you'll notice how many bikes I have owned and ridden. I have been searching and searching for just the right bike. I always went back to the trusty YZ250 platform bc I just couldn't find anything better. The reason I have settled on this 300 is bc of how much energy I can conserve in a 2 hour long hare scramble on that bike. I ride the bike in the low RPMs where theres a ton of luggable power yet the bike is not ripping your arms off. I just sold my 2018 TE150. Fun bike and fast, but in order to right the ever living shit out of a 150 I am completely out of breath in 30 minutes whereas I could keep up on the 300 and use next to 0 energy. Thats why I ride the 300. If I was actually a good rider then sure I would train and ride the correct bike for me but im not. im just out there having fun riding in the C class lol.
